Landlocked...:lmao: I felt that way when I lived in New jersey, now that I'm in Florida we go to the ocean all the time. I live in a town that is 30 minutes to the beach, and about 40 minutes to the Mouse..

See that is where I am so spoiled..."30 minutes to the beach" I think I'd die!!!!

When I was in college, about three hours away, I'd get so homesick for the smell of the Ocean. Just long for it. Not my home, or homecooking, or my family...the Ocean. funny thing is, I was never a sunbather (too many Irish genes here to tan...EVER) or had a boat growing up, or fished. i just loved to swim, and to watch it. Even after JAWS came out. Although I do keep an ear out for that music:eek:

I hear what your saying. :thumbsup2 Although I don't use the beach much (and it is right out our back door), I think I would be sick without sand and water close by. We will definitely have to move along the coast. DH was thinking Melbourne while I had the gulf side in mind. I don't know...told him we have to wait until the kids finish high school and then we can move. One of these days! LOL! I never thought I'd want to leave NJ, but our area is getting way too built up for my taste (almost city like) and in the summer, forget it...all the tourists make me want to crawl in a hole and not come out until late September. I'm sure since you are in a resort area as well you know the feeling. ((sigh)) I just keep dreaming that the grass is greener on the other side... :rotfl:

Well Yeah, us locals we complain about the HORDES of tourists, But it's how many people make their living here. (Not us of course, so we CAN complain hee hee!)

Back to sewing questions....

I am so wanting my daughter to have a pair of halteralls. Know what I mean? Think 1970's maybe and the hippies? I posted about these ages ago, and I think it got missed. Does anyone make these? Anyone have a pattern I can beg, borrow, copy or STEAL:lmao: off of??

Thanks for all the compliments everyone!!!

The Mickey head is made from black cloth. I don't know how else to explain it because I know nothing about sewing. It was some cheap cloth from Wal-Mart but not the cheapest. The cheapest kind was really thin.

I'm planning on taking the shoes in my backpack and just slipping them on for a picture. That's when you're obsessed with pictures. You buy shoes just to wear for one picture. Pathetic. :rotfl:

\

I'm going to post it here and PM it to you. First I put on the shirt and pinned the ribbon while it was stretched out. I pinned the ribbon at both seams and just let the middle kind of droop. This was really hard to do on myself. I tried to get DH to pin for me, but that was a mess. I had to do this step several times because once I made the ribbon too short so then I kept making it too long and had to trim. I tried the shirt on several times with everything pinned before ironing down anything.

To get the shirt to stay stretched out while I was ironing on I put it over the ironing board. This is while the ribbon is pinned on. Then I pulled it on both sides until it was stretched out to the length that the ribbon reached. Then I gathered the side by the seam and pulled some shirt from the underside and clothespinned it together. I did the same thing for the other side. Does that make sense at all??? :confused3

Then I ironed the ribbon in the middle. Next I pulled the shirt over so I could iron one of the sides. I had to remove the clothespin, so I just kept it stretched out with one hand while I ironed with the other. Repeat on the other side. After I put each piece on, I tried the shirt on to make sure it was working.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

That shirt is the greatest and looks so cute on! The shoes will be GREAT! I can't believe how creative you are, no wonder it took so long to make! I am yet to attempt a ribbon tee!

You all should have a really good time. Just wanted to let you know that COSI closes really early (like 4 or 5 pm) so get there early. It's hardly ever busy. Also if you can find someone with a entertainment book there is a B1G1 free admission coupon. I am a member and don't need this, but already gave it to my sister. Sorry! Also, just across the river, there is a strip of resturaunts - really good food and service. A bit on the pricy side, but well worth it.

Also, our zoo is awsome. We have one of the top 10 rated zoos in the NATION ! ! ! Truly something to go see. We just had some baby polar bears and theyre super cute.

-Michelle

I can't wait to go! I want to see those baby polar bears! My Mom has a membership at a zoo near us (Binder Park if anyone is interested!) and she will get half off admission in Toledo. We figured if it rains we'll do the COSI. Do they still have that bike on a highwire? I wish it were open later, because our convention gets out at about 5PM every day. It seems all the fun stuff in Toledo is closed by then! Last year we went to a "fiesta" that was not exactly what we were thinking it would be!

Ok, and to tie all this back into sewing, my girls will need new dresses for our convention, so I think I'll sew them up something. And, maybe a custom outfit for the zoo. Where can I find polar bear fabric?

I live 10 minutes from Michigan's Adventure!! I use to live like 3 mins away.

OOOH! I LOVE Dear Park Funland, err, I mean Michigan's Adventure! Zack's Zoomer was my son's first rollercoaster!

Mondays aren't very good for me, due to rehab for my odest, but she has 4:30 rehab every other monday and 1:30 on the opposite Monday. So, as long as we have a 4:30 day, I should be safe on Monday. Tuesday is great except for July 31st and August 7th. Wednesday is good except for July 25th and August 1st. Thursday is good. Fridays are super. Saturdays are okay, except for August 4th because my girls scout troop is having a pool party at my house, and the 18th is the day b4 my oldest dd's b-day party.

Wheh, I guess my schedule is pretty busy also. :confused3

I had to laugh at your schedule! You are BUSY!!!

:rotfl: Alright, I finally finished my very first twirl skirt, and I thought I'd take some pics before I take the waistband off and do it again. :lmao: I'm not pleased with the way the waist turned out. I wasn't planning ahead and should've enclosed the raw edges. Eventhough I did serge them, I think they would be too uncomfortable. Also, I have not trimmed off all the little threads and the basting stitches, etc. Please tell me honestly what you think. Seriously, I will only learn from honest criticism. I know some of you won't like the orange and blue though, so please pardon that lapse in judgement. :rotfl2:

My dd is still in her Ariel jammies, so please don't look at the top that doesn't match or my dirty house.

And my dd trying to twirl

BTW, my dd doesn't like it at all. She doesn't like the gators on it. Eventhough I, myself, am a Fightin' Tiger, my dd's tuition is already paid, so I hope she learns to like gators. :rotfl:

Honestly?? I think it's wonderful! You did a really good job! It turned out really cute! I like the bias trim on the bottom.

On another note.....Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday about the twin girls adopted from China. They were abandonded in a textile factory. Well it's funny because the moms were on this DIS board and one posted a photo that her adopted Mia was having a b-day and the other mom IM'ed her. They talked about the girls, the b-days, where they were left, and low and behold got the paternity test....SISTERS! ! ! Upon meeting at the airport for the 1st time the girls took right to each other like the have been together all along. It was a heart felt story. VERY VERY Cute lil girls. Both were named Mia (the parents each chose that name for some reason) one adoptive parent said god told her to name the angel Mia.

Isn't that lovely !

They were Disers? Who were they? What a wonderful story, it made me teary! (and, textile factory, that ties it all back into the thread).

I tried it once and HATED them! I didn't want to make them in the first place though and my best friend wanted them for her daughter. I'll have to see if I can dig up a picture (but it is my son wearing them! atleast his hair was longer). It was really hard because I am in Atlanta and she is in Charlotte, nothing was measured. I cut the back, sewed under, attached a ruffle (ideally it should have elastic in it, let's just say mine was safety pinned). Then I made straps out of fabric, hooked through the metal that hooks onto the overalls.

This isn't exactly what I was thinking of, but when I did a search, this pattern came up:
http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/patterns/sewingpatterns.pl?patternid=3409

I've seen some on Ebay that are a little different, without a waist, more straight down.

ETA: Ok, these are adult patterns, but are any of these sort of what you had in mind? http://www.lanetzliving.net/inc/searchresults?s=halter&ss=halter&n=48538

THANKS!!! What a nice compliment! I thought a ribbon tee would be the easiest thing to make. I'm thinking about making another one for AK today or tomorrow. I need to hurry because we leave for WDW on Saturday!

If you mean denim overall conversion, I've seen people use a denim strap that goes around the back of the neck and hooks in the same polace as the regular strap. I would just cut the back, finish the cut edge, and sew seam binding to the cut edge part on the inside to use as the casing for elastic. This way, you wouldn't have to unsew the side seam.

I've been lurking on this thread for months and I don't even have kids. I just dream of all the outfits I'm going to make my future daughters.

Then I bought these super cute minnie polka dot shoes.
DSCN4509.jpg

I started thinking I wanted to make a shirt to match them to take a picture with Minnie. I usually do iron-on's but I decided to attempt a custom shirt.

Here's my first ever try...
P7100065.jpg

P7100067.jpg

P7100069.jpg

This took me around 3 hours, but I imagine if I did it again I could do it faster. The hardest part was figuring out how to get the shirt to be stretched out when I was applying the ribbon. It would probably be a lot easier with a t-shirt that doesn't have to stretch.

I used some type of iron on stuff for fabric that TravelinGal reccomended. A big thanks goes out to TravelinGal for putting up with my phone calls and PM's asking questions!

Originally I was going to put one strip of the red polka dot ribbon with black on the top and bottom. After I put on the red ribbon, I tried on the shirt and it was way toooo low. It looked ridiculous. I almost gave up. Then I decided I could just put another strip of red ribbon on top and put the black in the middle. I still felt like it was too low, which is why I put the Minnie up higher.

I love the way it turned out!!!

Hi Krista,
Read your trip report on TGM, you could make your cute niece some clothes now that you know how. The shoes are cute, where did you get them? I have to post later because I fixed up some cute capri's for DD to meet minnie. Keep in mind I don't sew  and usually just spend the money on Ebay for all the custom clothes.

The vintage patterns were really cool to look at. Some cute stuff. :hippie:

I got the shoes at either The Icing or Claire's at the mall. They were about $12. I'm taking my niece to WDW next summer, and I've already been thinking about the outfits I'm going to make her! LOL Hurry up and post your cute capris!

COSI and the zoo do close early. I don't for the world of me know why. My DH and I always complain about that. :confused3 But they do still have the high wire bike. You ride it over 2 stories. And they have a rock wall, a boyo, the thing that measures how fast your run, how fast you throw a base ball, the human piano dancing mat, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE COSI !

The Lil girls on Oprah that were adopted out were both abandonded at a textile factory in China. One was adopted out in about 7 months I think the other had a hole in her heart and it took about 18 months for someone to take her in. THey live a long ways away from each other, unfortunatally, but the moms say that they talk on the phone at least once a week now, and communicat thru the mail, e-mail and occasionally visit each other. I was crying watching it.

In addition to my busy schedule my oldest is special needs so we do rehab once a week, counselor every week now (was every other), psychologist every month, and thats just 1 daughter. Did i say I have 4 ?

We went to the COSI (is that pronounced like Cosby as in Bill Cosby, or like cozey like comfortable? I thought it was Cosby, but my Mom just says the initials because we just aren't sure!) a few years ago when we stayed in Toledo to go to Cedar Point (I LOVE Cedar Point!) and it was so much fun!! I wasn't brave enough to do the bike though!

My Mom always says, "Why don't they leave that open until we are out, don't they know we would want to go there?"

I will have to look up the story about those little sisters! Here, I found a link: http://www2.oprah.com/tows/slide/200704/20070410/slide_20070410_284_107.jhtml

Wow, you are a very busy woman!

LOL! I think it's pronounced KOH-SIGH. (Center Of Science and Industry). We've got the main one in Columbus and I used to volunteer there (1000+ hours) in high school. I've never been to the one in Toledo though.

Hey,

I am looking for a pattern for Belle's Blue Dress. My DD is a 4-6 dress size. She really wanted Belle's blue dress. We got the fancy yellow dress as the ultimate potty training reward! Any help or photos of this dress would be great!

Thanks so much!

It's pretty basic, really - a jumper with a full circle skirt and a white blouse. (add an apron if wanted)
I haven't seen any patterns for that dress, but I'm sure there are some out there that are really close.

If you need a pattern try a Dorothy pattern (Wizard of Oz) They look similar - just add an apron.

Search ebay for custom Belle provincial. It's the dress not a pattern.
