Where are you in Mi.? I'm in Westland!! My in-laws just made the move to Mancelona last year. Can't quite tell where you are.
I'd love to meet up with everyone!! August weekends stink for me - Michigan's Adventure the first weekend, A birthday party third weekend, DD's b-day party 4th weekend!! Any other dates?

I live 10 minutes from Michigan's Adventure!! I use to live like 3 mins away.

I'm so jealous of all you guys meeting up! does anyone live here on the EAstern Seaboard? I'd love to have a fabric get together!!

I am in the east but I am only about an hour from Canada in northern NY... Way far from you!:sad2:

Hey ladies!

There is some neat Blue Hawaii Elvis fabric at fabric depot dot com.. I haven't check much else out yet but I knew a while back some of you were looking for something like this!

~ Jen

There is also some cool Jolly Roger and Khaki Voyager fabric as well!

Mondays aren't very good for me, due to rehab for my odest, but she has 4:30 rehab every other monday and 1:30 on the opposite Monday. So, as long as we have a 4:30 day, I should be safe on Monday. Tuesday is great except for July 31st and August 7th. Wednesday is good except for July 25th and August 1st. Thursday is good. Fridays are super. Saturdays are okay, except for August 4th because my girls scout troop is having a pool party at my house, and the 18th is the day b4 my oldest dd's b-day party.

Wheh, I guess my schedule is pretty busy also. :confused3

You all should have a really good time. Just wanted to let you know that COSI closes really early (like 4 or 5 pm) so get there early. It's hardly ever busy. Also if you can find someone with a entertainment book there is a B1G1 free admission coupon. I am a member and don't need this, but already gave it to my sister. Sorry! Also, just across the river, there is a strip of resturaunts - really good food and service. A bit on the pricy side, but well worth it.

Also, our zoo is awsome. We have one of the top 10 rated zoos in the NATION ! ! ! Truly something to go see. We just had some baby polar bears and theyre super cute.

-Michelle

I still have my B1G1 for COSI and I have zoo coupons for B1G1 child admission too so if you need them LMK!

We tried to eat at Real Seafood sunday night for DH's b-day and they closed early so we ate at Navy Bistro instead.

OK, I have been ordered by the EvilQueen to help organize our meeting...lets pick a date! :) Everyone take a look at the dates below and PM me with the date that works best for you. If more than one date will work then please include ALL dates you can make it. I would love to be able to plan it so as many members can join in as possible! I will post tomorrow around noon with results, so please PM me with your dates, thanks!

Too far away?!?! You are closer than me. Although with you driving out of Chicago, maybe I could get their quicker. lol

Good Golly yes!!! Especially a weekday!!! I'm about 40 miles West of Chicago & my DD has doctor's appt. not *quite* into the city but close. Left at 7:00 AM for a 9:00 AM appointment once and didn't get there until 9:30!! It was insane (I don't usually travel into the city on weekdays like that -- I think *anyone* could get there faster than me fighting the traffic! I know going to WDW, everyone said Atlanta traffic was bad but they have those multi-person lanes so we just whizzed right on through Atlanta. It was *nothing* compared to Chicago traffic.)

I do enough damage to my wallet between Jo-Ann & Wal-mart being close-by. ;)

:rotfl: Alright, I finally finished my very first twirl skirt, and I thought I'd take some pics before I take the waistband off and do it again. :lmao: I'm not pleased with the way the waist turned out. I wasn't planning ahead and should've enclosed the raw edges. Eventhough I did serge them, I think they would be too uncomfortable. Also, I have not trimmed off all the little threads and the basting stitches, etc. Please tell me honestly what you think. Seriously, I will only learn from honest criticism. I know some of you won't like the orange and blue though, so please pardon that lapse in judgement. :rotfl2:

My dd is still in her Ariel jammies, so please don't look at the top that doesn't match or my dirty house.

BTW, my dd doesn't like it at all. She doesn't like the gators on it. Eventhough I, myself, am a Fightin' Tiger, my dd's tuition is already paid, so I hope she learns to like gators. :rotfl:

Dena,
I sent you a pm. It is very nice of you to help organize the gathering. Let me know the details.

Thanks a bunch!

Michelle

I think that it looks great! The colors work wonderful considering it's a gators skirt. I agree that the waist band looks a lil "WEIRD". But anything else I'll just say that you did a wonderful job. :cheer2:

Question for you.....Are all of your patch squares the same size, or did you verry the sizes for a more mixed up look? I haven't attemped anything except for a pillow case dress... and I wasn't really sure I like how that turned out either. :sad2: Practice practice practice....i'll get there with all of you (one of these days).

-Michellle

On another note.....Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday about the twin girls adopted from China. They were abandonded in a textile factory. Well it's funny because the moms were on this DIS board and one posted a photo that her adopted Mia was having a b-day and the other mom IM'ed her. They talked about the girls, the b-days, where they were left, and low and behold got the paternity test....SISTERS! ! ! Upon meeting at the airport for the 1st time the girls took right to each other like the have been together all along. It was a heart felt story. VERY VERY Cute lil girls. Both were named Mia (the parents each chose that name for some reason) one adoptive parent said god told her to name the angel Mia.

Isn't that lovely !

I like the skirt-even though I'm not a gators fan, I get it and I think it works! I don't really have an opinion or rather a critique of the waist band on the skirt since I've never made one of these myself, but is anyone really going to see the waist anyway? I mean, most outfits I've seen on this thread with the twirl skirts have the shirt obscuring the waist anyways...so I'm not sure I'd fret over that. It's too bad your DD doesn't like the skirt, I think it turned out really cute. :cutie:

I was just thinking the same thing...and suddenly wishing I was in the Toledo area or even within reasonable driving distance! :rotfl:

I'm at the Jersey Shore...but everything is pretty accessible...have car, will travel...but Ohio would be pushing it! LOL!

Where on the Jersey Shore? When I was growing up, my grandparents had a beach house in Brigantine New Jersey!

Such cute custom made outfits! I don't sew, but never thought to look on ebay. Duh! Thanks for sharing.:goodvibes

I've been lurking on this thread for months and I don't even have kids. I just dream of all the outfits I'm going to make my future daughters.

Then I bought these super cute minnie polka dot shoes.

I started thinking I wanted to make a shirt to match them to take a picture with Minnie. I usually do iron-on's but I decided to attempt a custom shirt.

Here's my first ever try...
P7100065.jpg

P7100067.jpg

P7100069.jpg

This took me around 3 hours, but I imagine if I did it again I could do it faster. The hardest part was figuring out how to get the shirt to be stretched out when I was applying the ribbon. It would probably be a lot easier with a t-shirt that doesn't have to stretch.

I used some type of iron on stuff for fabric that TravelinGal reccomended. A big thanks goes out to TravelinGal for putting up with my phone calls and PM's asking questions!

Originally I was going to put one strip of the red polka dot ribbon with black on the top and bottom. After I put on the red ribbon, I tried on the shirt and it was way toooo low. It looked ridiculous. I almost gave up. Then I decided I could just put another strip of red ribbon on top and put the black in the middle. I still felt like it was too low, which is why I put the Minnie up higher.

I love the way it turned out!!!

You did a GREAT job!! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes!

I am right by Long Beach Island. Not even a half hour away from Brigantine. I grew up in Point Pleasant and Brick, then moved to Toms River. A few years back we decided to head even further south...we keep inching our way further and further down the shore line. However, I think our next move will be WAAAAYYYYYYY down south...maybe by the mouse, but that is still a ways away for us.

Well I like it! Nasty Gators and all! May I ask where you got your college themed material?

I live outside Ocean City MD. About 10 miles by car, about two minutes by boat! I'd consider moving to Florida and the mouse, but to be honest, I've NEVER been "landlocked" and can't really picture myself anywhere without the Ocean. So DH and I will probably be "snowbirds" That would make life perfect!

Landlocked...:lmao: I felt that way when I lived in New jersey, now that I'm in Florida we go to the ocean all the time. I live in a town that is 30 minutes to the beach, and about 40 minutes to the Mouse..

I hear what your saying. :thumbsup2 Although I don't use the beach much (and it is right out our back door), I think I would be sick without sand and water close by. We will definitely have to move along the coast. DH was thinking Melbourne while I had the gulf side in mind. I don't know...told him we have to wait until the kids finish high school and then we can move. One of these days! LOL! I never thought I'd want to leave NJ, but our area is getting way too built up for my taste (almost city like) and in the summer, forget it...all the tourists make me want to crawl in a hole and not come out until late September. I'm sure since you are in a resort area as well you know the feeling. ((sigh)) I just keep dreaming that the grass is greener on the other side... :rotfl:
