Well the wait is almost over.

We got our plane tickets last May (using points), and decided that we would give the trip to WDW to the kids for Christmas. I have seen other posts on this site giving the pros and cons of surpising your kids versus telling them up front.

I feel our plan is the best of both worlds. It's great to see the look on their faces when they realize they are going to WDW, but (to me) one of the best parts of the trip is planning.

So we will get to see their excited faces on Christmas day, AND they get to look at all the Disney websites for the next 5 months and try to decide what they want to do when they get there. PERFECT!

We are taking the kids and my parents to WDW for Christmas. I was to excited to keep the secret. Since I was bugging my DH about it since last September when we came home from that trip , he finally gave in and said ok in June , I had almost given up , anyway I can't wait to get there 3 more days :dance3: .

Have a great trip too.

This is my very first post here. We are leaving on our families first trip to WDW on Jan. 5th.

Santa brought the trip for our family this Christmas. So it was a complete surprise. My husband and I argued about this. We've been planning it for a year now and he thought that we should tell the kids sooner. I was like, "Are you Crazy?" I could just hear my DD-4, "Is it time to go Yet?" With 11 days from Christmas to our trip, we are "planning" it all together. Yes, I did make the dining reservations months ago, but with a little suggestion my kids think they are choosing all the restaurants.

Christmas morning was magical in our home. We had one big box closed up with a bow. Inside I had our airline tickets, a Pal Mickey that I bought new on EBAY. The custom maps you can order online. Disney Tee's for the whole family. And a note from Santa explaining the gift. My kids 4, 7, 10 were shocked as we told them that maybe we would go when our youngest was 5.
I think I am still bruised from the group hug my kids gave me in their excitement. It's already been a year of dreams for us!

Great first post Dragonfly. Welcome to the DIS.

I don't believe my parents ever surprised my brothers and I on Christmas morning let alone with a trip to the World.

The goody box with Pal Mickey was a great idea!

That sounds so wonderful! So glad your surprised worked out! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip!

We surprised our kids with a WDW trip on Xmas morning also. I wrote a note that said "See you real soon!" and signed it Mickey Mouse. We included some Disney Dollars too. Our DD11 got it right away and had to help our DD4. DD4 just looked at the Disney Dollar and asked "Where do I put this?" :rotfl: They were both really excited.

DS12 opened his a bit later and didn't get it. I guess all he had was his new Xbox games on his mind! :confused3 DD4 had to explain it to him. They were all really excited about it. I tried to mess with them by telling them they had to be packed by 8 that night buy my wife wouldn't go for that!

I was a little worried that DD4 would be asking "when are we leaving?" constantly but I think she's already forgot about it, which is a good thing.

Our first two trips to the world, we told the kids in advance and did a little paper chain with a countdown. This year, we decided that we'd make it a surprise. I often make our local "sidetrips" a surprise. We'll pack the kids in the van and just head out and make them guess where we are going. We plan to do that this time with our WDW trip. They'll know as soon as we get to the airport because the only place we go on a plane is WDW. But, it will be fun for them.
