Kids and Violent Video Games

I still play some violent video games (Left4Dead lately) and I'm about as peaceful as you can get. I don't believe that video games cause anything unless the inclination is already there.

I agree with this. The vast majority of people who play violent video games are not going into work or school and shooting their coworkers/classmates. I am not a fan or legislating to the exception instead of the rule. If you are that effected by a video game (or movie or cartoon for that matter) the issue isn't the video game, the excuse is the video game.

Heck, look at the Warner Bros cartoons from the late 40's and 50's, those were pretty violent. I wonder if this same question would be raised when Buggs asked Elmer how many lumps he would like with his tea, then hit him on the head with a mallet to produce them.

I don't really play video games (Super Mario 3 is my most modern game), but I remember playing them with friends. I guess we just never zoned out the way this kid was. I don't think it would have been as spooky if it was any other game. (Like DDR or Mario Brothers or something). It still bothers me that his parents were nowhere in sight. It was an 11 year old boy, in an extremely crwoded restaurant by the door. I have no clue if he was there on his own or if his family was eating there, but if his family was there it was not obvious. It would have been so easy for somebody to snatch him.

11 year old boys are seldomly snatched.

Intensity is the nature of the all games here. I see it while the little ones build with legos, and I see it when the olders play video games.
