My 8 year old has a rash on the trunk of his body, butt, some on his arms and some on his legs. Wasn't there yesterday. He has no fever, and not sick in any other way. My health center where I take my kids is closed until monday because they are moving to another location. I don't know if I should be worried because I am 5 weeks pregnant?? I don't want to take him to the ER if he isn't showing signs of being really sick, but should I be concerned about me being pregnant? There is an on call dr. I guess from the health center I can place a call to.
I know it's not hives, been through that myself, and with my oldest. I really don't know what it could be? What would you do, if you were pregnant, and had a child with a rash?

Is it a fine red rash? Has he had strep or a sore throat in the last couple of weeks? It could be scarlet fever, I have seen it without the "fever" part. Since you are pg, I would take him to a clinic or the ER and explain.

I would put the call in for sure. What do you have to lose? Being pregnant I would want to know.

You are not that far from me, and my daughter has a wild heat rash. Could it possible be that? I am no Dr, so just putting in my 2 cents.

I would call and explain the situation. You can't be too careful.

When I was 19 I developed a similar rash and went to the doctor and they thought it was hives from something I ate. Well I week later I developed other symptoms and come to find out it was Mono. So if it is mono, usually people living in the house won't catch it, but others can.

Go to an immediate care clinic. In MD we have a place called Patient First. There is also a place called Nighttime Pediatrics. Check around and see where you can go near your house that is NOT the ER.

We don't have immediate care clinics around here, it's your dr. or ER. I guess I will place a call to the on call dr.

What does the rash look like? Could it be heat rash-which isn't contagious.

It has been pretty hot and humid here this week, So it's possible.

We've spent the last 3 days in our pool and my kids were in a lake on monday.

Can you all and talk to your doctor and see what they suggest? Can you call your OB and see what they suggest? Is there another ped you can go to?

Google can be your friend. Go ahead and do a search on rash photos.

My boys both ended up having fifth's disease. Diagnosed by moi and confirmed by the doctor on call. Us too had a closed due to vacation office at the time. It doesn't hurt them, but you need to stay away from pregnant women.

I would also be calling the doctor on call. Because we are Mom's and that is what we do. :thumbsup2

I wish I had noticed this earlier today. I tried to call the number the health center left to get an on call dr. it's of our local hosp. I tried to call, none of the choices it gave me were right, so I held on for the operator, and it rang and rang. I'll try again soon. UGh, this is what I get for living in a rural place, lol.

I tried to take pics of it, didn't come out so well. The rash isn't raised above the skin, it looks like it's in the skin. That's the only way I can explain it. It's darker then it looks in these pics.

It's Fifths. Looks like lace. Nothing you can do for them, it just runs it course.

It will also go away and may come back with extreme heat. For about a year.

Course, I am not a doctor and you should definitely get a real opinion. Do you have any neighbor's who are nurses?

Looks viral - my kids have gotten mystery rashes, and we've never discovered the cause. My pediatrician says that a lot of them manifest as rashes. I think the only virus that causes a rash is Fifths, and that's on the face.

Google is NOT your friend when medical issues are concerned. Neither is the DIS.

DD had a similar issue at one time, no other symptoms, looked just like that. She was positive for strep. He needs to be seen.

I was JUST going to say that. It is a lacey, red rash--Fifth's.

I would say Fifths as well but if I were 5 weeks pregnant, I'd want a doctor's diagnosis.

It is getting kinda late, but have you thought to call other doctor's offices to see if someone can look at him? It always better to be safe than sorry.

Oh, and pick any option if you try to call your office again. Hopefully you get a live person soon.

DD had Fifths disease and it looked a LOT like that does. And as someone else said, it looks lacy. Has he by any chance had really pink cheeks? That's another telltale sign of it. The good news is that if he has the rash he is no longer contagious....but the rash will come and go. DD's lasted about 2 weeks or so off and on. The bad news is that it can be dangerous in pregnant women....however, my OB told me that there was about a 90% chance that I had it before and would have immunity to it now. The pediatrician said even if I did get it the baby should be okay because I was in the second trimester. It is more dangerous in the first trimester and if I were you would go ask them to run the blood test for them to be able to tell if you had immunity to it. And I would definitely want a doctor to diagnose it. We went to Urgent Care initially where they misdiagnosed it as an allergic reaction.....I would try and go somewhere with doctors with more pediatric experience. What sucks is at this point there really isn't nothing you can do.....but knowing might give you some peace of mind.

I called again and got someone right away this time. They put a call to the on call dr. from our heath center! Now I just have to wait for him to call me. I know the dr. too, so that's good.
