Kick'n It at Kidani (aka Am I Becoming a Resort Snob?)Final Update 8/20 p.54

Yum!!!!! Your dinner looks soooooooo good! I too am not a huge meat person but on occasion I have the craving. I almost want to change one of my October ressies but I know I will always be back (next May :rotfl:) so maybe then. ;)
:scared1: re: the meltdown!!

p.s. love the picture of you, your son, and LJ! :thumbsup2

Hey Manntra:

That's how I am with meat. I usually pick fish or pasta over meat, but I ate steak twice on this trip. And, although the steak at the Wave was good, the filet at LeCellier was excellent. Yeah - you better wait until May to go because you'll have to call every day from now to October in hopes of a cancellation. Glad you like the picture!

MEK - just read your entire TR and loved it! I'm just in time for the last post! Can't wait for it - it sounds like you all had a wonderful trip and that your nephew had the time of his life!

Vicky

Hey Vicky:

Welcome to my TR! Glad you are all caught up. Even though I am getting close to the end of my trip, I always find a way to drag it out at the end. I plan to add a little epilogue with my recent trip to Niagara Falls and my plans for September, so stick around! BTW - my nephew is still talking about his trip!

lol! Cool software helps :)

.

I need to get me some!

lol! Cool software helps :)

K is just starting 8th. Her coach now makes everyone rotate, which I think is great for all of them. Some of the parents disagree but it makes them better players (and more appreciative). I don't think she'll end up at defense but you never know.

.

I agree. I think the ones who can rotate should, unless you have somebody who is absolutely unbeatable at their position. It's definately good to be a utility player, someone who can get subbed anywhere in a pinch.

yup. exactly. and poor DSS gets completely ignored. It just makes me sad on a number of levels. Sad for both kids in different ways but also sad for her. It is her choice but it really puts an unfair burden on K to be everything for her mom and it will be brutal when K goes to college as we have no idea what she'll do as she literally has no life outside of soccer and K and her job.

That's tough. Poor DSS. Do you think he feels ignored? His interest is music, right? Hopefully DSD can hold her own under the pressure. She sounds very talented. Hopefully the mom stuff won't get to her.

For some reason, I am reminded of this story. We had this amazing girl's basketball player here in Delaware a couple years ago. She started on HS varsity since she was in 8th grade (private girls school). She was the NCAA pick for the best girl's high school basketball player in the country in 2008. Anyway, this girl apparently was under a ton a pressure and scrutiny from very early on. She had a full scholarship to UConn. Everyone wanted her. She ultimately quit basketball. She completely burned out. Now she attends University of Delaware and plays Volleyball. She gave it up. It's so sad because she was immensely talented. But I guess she decided to be a regular person. Anyway, your story about DSD's mom triggered that memory for me.

I probably won't get a lot written tonight, but I thought I should start. Even though my trip was nearing a close, I was anxious to wake up on Sunday morning and explore CSR. I did this in the most efficient way I know - I went running. I ran from the Casitas section to the Rancheros and Cabanas sections. I honestly don't know which one I ran through first. It was nice getting up fairly early. The resort was quiet, it wasn't super hot yet, and it felt good to be outside running again. I really prefer it over the treadmill.

Here are a few CSR pictures I took in the early morning:

After my run I got ready for the parks and then got LJ up. The older boys were planning to go as a threesome to Typhoon Lagoon. DH and I were planning to take LJ to Epcot so he could ride Soarin and TT. The evening before, I realized that Epcot was having an early magical hour. I knew we didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting there at 8am, but we did manage to push through the turnstyles at 0845am. This was our earliest morning to date.

We headed to Soarin first to get some FP's. It was actually pretty nice walking to Soarin without the crowds. I don't remember what our FP return time was - probably around 11:30. After we got our FP's we headed to Living with the Land. I love this ride and must go on it every visit. I really want to take the Behind the Seeds tour, but I can't seem to get my DH to go with me. Maybe I should just go by myself. There's a thought - next trip I'm gonna ditch him!

So I started off taking pics of everything:

And then.....the rechargeable batteries bit the dust again. Yes, I should have brought spares, but I wasn't even sure if we even plugged them in in the new room. Crude! I really wanted a picture of a Mickey shaped pumpkin. Yeah - I know I have one from previous trips, but I wanted one of this trip! When we got off the ride I debated whether I wanted to buy batteries or not. And then I saw these.......

DisneyJune20091078.jpg

Now I ask you. (gnomies and non-gnomies alike)....How could I not take a picture of one of these? I can't help wonder if these were not inspired from the original gnomie in Jen Jolt's TR. Aren't they cute? I almost had to have one, but I resisted.

Here's some pictures I took as we were leaving the Land and heading towards Innoventions:

DisneyJune20091080.jpg

I thought it might be fun to kill some time in here. LJ is a bright kid. I figured there would be something he liked in here.

DisneyJune20091081.jpg

We stumbled upon a game on fire safety. A group of 2 teams (boy and girls) was just getting ready to start and the CM practically insisted we join in. I was assigned to the girls team and LJ and DH, to no one's surprise, went to the boy's team. The object of the game was to go to different parts of the house and fire a laser gun on the fire hazards. It you found the hazard you got points. If you missed it, it would catch on fire. Which ever team got the most points was the winner. Well, I did really bad on my first run because my gun was not working right. But once I got a new gun, I was in buisness. And guess what? The girl's team won. Hey - I was ready to play again.

After we played the game, LJ got his picture taken in front of the fire truck so he could email it home. Here is a display of the different fire company badges on the fire truck (there was one from Delaware).

When we were done taking pictures I pointed out the kim possible station to LJ (cue the music that I can't get out of my head every since I listened to it on CP's TR).

DisneyJune20091085.jpg

I would have been happy to give old "Kim P" a try, but LJ wasn't interested so we kept moving. LJ went to play some computer games and I stumbled upon these:

DisneyJune20091087.jpg

The CM told us there was a free 5 - 10 minute demonstration there at 1pm. Sounded tempting. I talked to the CM for awhile about her prior jobs and what other tours are available.

After we were done with innoventions, we decided it was probably time to ride Spaceship earth. And here begins the story of the melt down (next episode, stay tuned).

Noooo! I just found this trip report yesterday! I read all through it today!
And then, after all the posts....it STOPS before the melt-down??? Just when I found it??? What kind of karma is that?

Love the report!!

I WILL be bringing one of these handsome men home with me next year in honor of gnomefest!!!!! I am warning Disney merchandising now, if he is not available, they can expect my own Epcot meltdown/Diva moment!!!

I'm bummed your trip is approaching the end :guilty:

If you want me to make you something siggie wise let me know :) cool software is a job perk, I spend way to much time playing!

yeah, we do think DSS notices and minds. He hasn't commented much but enough. When he says stuff like "I don't think she's ever missed a single practice" (which is true) but misses most of DSS's stuff....it's pretty hard to ignore.

DH think's she's written DSS off....she's made comments like "I wish he could be more like K"....to DH. It makes me ill. He is a great kid. His interest is music but he doesn't have much self direction and she doesn't push him at all. Next year will be really interesting as it could be a turning point for him one way or another. He's doing running start.

Ah.....your story is our biggest fear. I think she loves the game, I do. Do I think she has the passion and drive her mom wants her to have/thinks she should have or does have but no one sees it but mom? Not so sure. K is not at that level but still, we worry an awful lot about the pressure her mom puts on her (in every sport but soccer is the worst) and honestly I believe in my heart her mom doesn't realize what she is doing. She really doesn't. She will deny it completely and it's kind of pointless to even try to address. She really does mean well and this is her way of support. Our job is simply to provide a different way and a different outlet and try to encourage her to share how she feels. Which is not easy for either of them.

Aack. enough of that! So NOT disney! lol.

It looks like your morning was going so well I'm wondering what happens that triggers the melt down! Don't keep us waiting too long!!
I love the pic of the gnomes! We finally gave in, after years of looking at them, and bought one in May. He makes me smile when I look out in the yard and see him peeking through the hostas :goodvibes

Sure, tease us  Now we have to wait to hear about the meltdown! No fair! ;)

Sounds like you had a good morning Epcot! Those little Mickey Gnomes are too cute! I almost bought too, DH was making fun of me for even looking at it! "If it has Mickey on it, you'll buy it..." MEN!

Hi MEK -
Dis meet in Rehobeth???? and crabs next July, yes, somebody should plan this :) I would be interested!

Hi Erinch:

Welcome to my TR! I have never met anyone from Punxsutawney, Pa. Cool. I'm glad you are enjoying my TR. The meltdown will appear in tonight's episode. I can't really post at work because I can't access or see photobucket!

I WILL be bringing one of these handsome men home with me next year in honor of gnomefest!!!!! I am warning Disney merchandising now, if he is not available, they can expect my own Epcot meltdown/Diva moment!!!

I'm bummed your trip is approaching the end :guilty:

:rotfl2: We'll call your TR: Meltdown and the Mickey Gnome! I really liked those gnomies and I should have gotten one.

I know my trip is almost over, but I'll try to drag it out a bit with some final thoughts and my PTR plans.

If you want me to make you something siggie wise let me know :) cool software is a job perk, I spend way to much time playing!

.

Nice perk - you are lucky!

She is clearly more into the sports thing than the music/arts stuff. Some people just don't get the creativity and discipline that goes into playing music. This makes me so sad because I'm sure she doesn't realize how transparent her actions are. She'll regret it later!

Ah.....your story is our biggest fear. I think she loves the game, I do. Yeah - my story was an example of pressure at its worst because this girl was definately a phenom. But I often think about her because it seems like such a waste of talent.

Well, I would say you are doing a great job of supporting your DSD. You've got a lot more supporting to do because her mom could definately get wiggier when high school starts. Here's what I noticed about the parents at soccer. The most intense parents, or the ones most wrapped up in their kid's success, tend to watch the games by themselves. They don't socialize much, they write stuff down or put it in their PDA, and they always seem to be looking for the next winning team. It doesn't seem like much fun!

It looks like your morning was going so well I'm wondering what happens that triggers the melt down! Don't keep us waiting too long!!

I promise not to make you wait past tonight (unless something unforseen happens).

I bet you love your gnomie. Now, I really wish I had gotten one!

It's coming .... I promise. Now I hope it lives up to the hype! You got a gnome, too! I hope they are there when I go back in September. I know if it has Mickey on it I will buy it, too!

Hi MEK -

:thumbsup2 Alright. I definately think we could do this. I can see a bunch of folks in lime green shirts picking crabs and drinking beer! :thumbsup2

Morning All!

I just want to thank everyone from reading along! I have reached over 500 posts and that is a record for me! :thumbsup2 I know I cheated a little bit when I responded with individual replies, but sometimes these work computers are slow when opening multiple windows!

Thanks! I love the early morning best at Disney. It's so quiet, calm, and reflective. Back in the day when I was more organized during my trips, I would take my coffee outside and just sit. Now I can't seem to get out of my own way in the morning.

Innoventions is a lot of fun! Loved hearing about the fire safety game!

This game was really cute. I had wanted to do the Storm Chasers, but it was in the other Innoventions. Another thing that will have to wait until next trip.

:lmao: Glad I could share that with you since you missed out on the game! ;)

:

I was hoping to do a mission or two, but I'm not sure if I am brave enough to ask for the kimunicator myself. :rotfl:

That's me..... a big tease! :rolleyes1 LOL

I'm so glad you got to go for a run! Looks like a lovely start to your day. Funny about LJ not being interested in KP....but in a way, good. I can't get anyone to go on the behind the seeds either. Except maybe E2. Maybe I'll try ditching next time as well.

you TEASE! no meltdown yet?

Congrats on 500 posts!

Now I can't seem to get out of my own way in the morning.

That's a great way to put it -- I am the same way!

I think I want to brave Storm Struck in October -- Charles will be there to hold my hand or laugh at me (which is what he will do knowing him).

I was hoping to do a mission or two, but I'm not sure if I am brave enough to ask for the kimunicator myself. :rotfl:

Oh, come on! If adults can walk around wearing Mickey ears at Disney, you can be brave enough to do a KP mission! ;)

I love those Mickey pumpkins!!! I have pumpkins growing in my yard and I would love to build a little "earning my ears" contraption to shape them!! :rotfl:

wouldn't it be cool if they sold them! EVERYONE who grows vegetables would want one!

According to Wikepeida Spaceship earth is an 18 story geodesic sphere that takes travelers on 13 minute dark ride to show the evolution of communication through the ages. In theory there are 11,520 total isosceles triangles in the sphere. It took 26 months to construct and it was designed so no water falls to the ground when it rain. Water is collected in one inch gaps in the facets and drains into a gutter system which delivers it into the World showcase lagoon. Talk about recycling.

DisneyJune20091107.jpg

When we were done in Innoventions we started to walk in the direction of spaceship earth. We will trying to kill some time until we could get out TT FP's and ride Soarin. The posted wait time for SE was 20 minutes and I would guess we were in line at least 15. It was just starting to get hot outside and I was glad when we were settled in our omnimover. DH sat with LJ and I sat in the back row by myself. When I tried to enter my home location, I ended up mistakenly telling the ride I lived in Iceland. I don't know what it is about this ride, but I can never hit my location. I know Delaware is small, but I've ended up in the Atlantic, the Pacific, Costa Rica, and Nigeria. :confused3I must have a really fat, uncoordinated finger!

Once I was all settled in, I began enjoying my travels from the stone ages to the Roman ruins to Michaelangelo and the Cistine chapel. The unexpected ring of my phone ruined my solitude. The fact that my phone was even ringing at all was a surprise since my kids rarely call, they only text. It was DS14 on the end of the line and he wasn't calling from his phone, rather a Florida number.:eek:He said, "mom, I'm calling from the phone in the room because Brian took the key to the safe and my charger is locked in there and my phone is dead. Brian left without me to go to the water park".

Double :eek: My first thought was.....How much is this phone call going to cost??????? My second thought was......He will have to stay in the room by himself. My third thought was.......He has NO PHONE :scared1: How can I contact him. I tried to stay calm. I'm not sure if I was more upset about the expensive phone call, the stupidity for letting his phone die (which he does constantly), or the fact that Brian couldn't wait for him and left him behind. Granted Nicholas is EXTREMELY slow. He moves like molasses and Brian lets no moss grow beneath his feet. I should have KNOWN they couldn't work together to get out of the room in unison.

So while all these thoughts were going through my mind, what happened next is no surprise.....LOST CALL. And I knew he wouldn't call me back because I was already upset about the toll call. Then I get a text from Brian that says, "Left my room card at the hotel". Now there's a surprise. (This is the card with charging privledges because we were no longer on the meal plan.) So I texted him back and said, "Either go back and get it or hope that J (his friend) has some $ to pay for lunch and drinks".

I was starting to feel like this couldn't get much worse. In fact, I thought maybe I should just leave the park, go reassemble everyone and start over. I felt like I just couldn't even think straight. Of course, DH and LJ were totally oblivious to my frantic phone calls and texts. Just then, Brian texts me back and tells me he found his card. I called him and told him just how displeased I was with him leaving Nick behind. Of course, he has some lame excuse that he thought Nick was right behind him. :sad2:

So in the midst of all this confusion, the ride ends.....much sooner than I had expected or was ready for. My drawstring back pack was still part way open on the seat beside me. So when I hastily stood up after the ride, the two water bottles inside my bag went spilling out onto the revolving floor. And they kept getting further away. See where I'm going with this. Of course, poor unsuspecting LJ reaches out to get them just as the revolving part of the floor starts going under the stationary part of the floor. Still following me. Of course, I am seeing this, but I am powerless to stop LJ and I just picture his little fingers getting stuck in the revolving floor. Even the CM maning the ride is getting nervous and she stoops down to help him.

And DH.....well his response to the whole situation was a very condescending, "Mary Elllen". Every syllable screamed to me, "How could you drop those bottles on the floor and put LJ at risk of getting his fingers caught in the revolving floor".

And that's when it happened......THE MELTDOWN........ The thoughts were rushing through my head.....You know the ones....."I tried so hard to make this a good trip. I worked for months to make ADRs, plan our park days, get tickets, book flights, pack, keep people organized, and now this....."

So I responded in a way does not make me proud. I exclaimed in a loud stage voice, SHUT UP! Yeah that's right. I could feel my throat getting dry and my eyes getting teary and my hands shaking. And I just kept on walking right out of Spaceship earth. Never turned around once!

Once I was outside in the bright sunlight and the warm air I started to think a little clear. I realized that I could call Coronado springs and get connected to the room. Fortunately, I remembered the room number and Nicholas picked up. I told him to go get on the next Epcot bus and I would wait for him at the fron gate, same turnstyle as last night. He said he needed to take a shower first. No wonder Brian didn't wait for him. He really is slow in the morning. By now it is probably 10:30, going on 11am.

When DH and LJ come out we decide to go over and get our TT FP's. Then, since it is almost lunch time, we decided to go to the Electric Umbrella. I wanted to eat something quickly before I had to go meet Nicholas. So I gobbled down something that I split with DH. I don't remember what, because I still wasn't in the best frame of mind. Then I set off to wait for Nicholas. Since he didn't have a phone I had no idea what time he would arrive. I waited for what felt like an eternity. Here are some pictures I took while waiting.....

Then here:

DisneyJune20091095.jpg

Everytime a bus would unload I would repeat this again.

And then FINALLY DS Nick arrived. I did not take his picture. I can't really remember where LJ and DH were. I think they styed at the Electric Umbrella for awhile. When we all met up, DH decided to give up his Soarin FP so DS, LJ, and I could ride together. We got the back row, but that was OK. At least I wasn't bothered by the little black dots that plaqued me during our December trip. I didn't see any dots at all. LJ loved the ride. Success. However, when we got off the ride I could not find DH. Do you think he was waiting near the ride exit. NOOOOOOOOOOO! Do you think he answered his phone..NOOOOOOOOOOO! Just when I was ready to take the boys and ditch him, he appeared.

Here's a picture I took when we were leaving the land.
DisneyJune20091097.jpg

I did forget to mention that when he first arrived, I sent Nick over to get his own FP for TT. I knew he wouldn't have the same time as the rest of us, but at least we could combine all 4 later in the day.

We did stop and listen to these guys for awhile:

DisneyJune20091100.jpg

At this point I am really not interested in making any decisions. I was still exhausted after the meltdown, so I let the rest of the gang decide where to go. We ended up back at Spaceship earth. Fortunately, the line was a bit shorter because some of the crowds had dispersed into the World showcase.

Here's some pics I took while waiting in line:
