Hi everyone. I would like to take my DH to Key West for his 60th Birthday in November. It's on his bucket list.

I'm trying to do this as inexpensively as possible while trying to stay at a quality place. Any ideas? I'm planning on staying about 4-5 nights. There are four adults (2 couples) going. So a 2 bedroom place would be good. We want to be close to the action, but far enough away from the noise. Close or on the beach would be nice too. I have never been to Key West, so I need all the help I can get.

I have enough miles for the airfare. (Thank goodness). Any help would be appreciated.

We always stay at the Galleon, my parents own a time share there. We love it, it is walking distance of Duval Street which is where all the action is but far enough away that its quiet. It's right on the Gulf and has a Marina. You will love Key West!!! Make sure you go down the the pier for the sunset celebrations.

Sounds perfect! I'm going to check it out.

My dh , sister in laws and one brother in law ( one couple) took a trip to key west and we stayed at the Doubletree. It was not located as close to the action as the Galleon, but it was very reasonable for the 3 nights we were there. We got a suite, it has 2 bedrooms and one common room with a living area and a large wet bar/kitchen area. One SIL stayed in the living area. The Galleon is VERY nice, but expensive, it's a timeshare so it's going to be mostly rented for a full week/7 nights. and the rooms there are 2 bedrooms, one room with a king bed and one with 2 twin beds. a sleeper sofa in the living room. We were at the Galleon a couple of Christmas's ago and it was totally awesome, but check out the Doubletree too.!:hippie:

forgot to mention: check out REDWEEK dot com for galleon rentals.. they also have other timeshare rentals in the keys.. We usually stay in Marathon fl.. and drive to Key West. Marathon is much more laid back and not so commercialized as Key West, it's 1/2 way to there.. close enough to drive easily for a day trip. You are going to love the keys.. we keep going back at least once a year!

I was going to recommend the galleon too! It is on the water but there's not much of a beach to speak of. I don't think any hotels are actually on the beach, but to be honest we spent tons of time on our trips at the hotel pool and on the water, and never made it to the beach. I've been three times. In my uncles two bedroom unit one room has a great pool/ water view, and the other has no view at all. It's a hallway view. I think all the units are like that. The balcony is across the living room and main bedroom, so at least the couple in the second bedroom can use the balcony.

On my last trip there, many years ago, it was me, my sister and a few friends. We were all on tighter budgets, so we made a trip to the local grocery store and cooked meals in the room several nights. It worked out nicely, especially to cut meal costs. Groceries are a bit pricey there but still much better than dining out every night! We have done snorkel trips, sunset champagne cruises, jet ski trips, the island trolley tour, hemmingway's house, the southernmost point, and lots of the well known restaurants on Duvall street. You're going to have a great time. I just recently went to the Bahamas and definitely felt a similar vibe to key west! It's almost like leaving the country without all the hassles!
