First of all.... is it worth going to see? Our kids are 11 and 16. We are thinking of going on April 4 - the day of the launch. Is this a good time to go or is it not such a great idea given the crowds, the launch, etc? Or.... can we even get in? We are travelling from Palm Beach and probably won't get there until lunch time and realling don't know if this is doable or not.

We were planning on meeting friends there but if it's not doable....then we'll plan somethingelse. Please - give me your honest opinion.

If.........it is doable... where would you suggest a god place would be to meet our friends?

Thanks!

Olivia.......

We love the Space Center! We've been there three times! A launch day would be cool! We went for a landing day in 2001. The nearest you can get to the shuttle is 3 miles. I think there are area to view the launch without going into the center if you were interested. S

We did the space center a few years ago (DS was 13) and we loved it! It was very educational as well as very interesting. We saw so much.....you see 1 of 2 Imax feature movies and then board a bus for a tour of the space center. They even let you get off of the bus and hear topics in various buildings with lots to see. I think your kids would love it.

We have not however gone to see a launch but I have heard the traffic if horrendous on the Bee Line back to Orlando. I would try to go and take the tour if I were you.;)

Hope others will have more information on going when a launch is scheduled!:)

Hope your vacation is a great one.....have a ball! :sunny:

We saw a shuttle launch in November 2000. It was truly specatcular as it was a night launch. We purchased special launch passes to see the launch. If I'm not mistaken, on launch days there is limited access to the facilities. I believe that access is cut off so many hours prior to the launch, and for a period after. The only way to get close (3 miles) is buy purchasing a pass.
As someone, previously posted, the hardest part was getting out of there afterwards. With our night launch which happened at around 10:00-10:30pm, we did not make it back to Kissimmee until around 1:00am.

Below is the url to purchase launch passess:

We went back another day to view the facilities. The kids enjoyed the launch and visitor center. They would have been 5, 7, and 9 at the time. Even the 5 year enjoyed it, as it happened they were discussing outer space in her kindergarten classes before our vacation.

Hope this helps. I think is was money well spent.

Bev we watched The Endeavour blast off in Nov of 2000 too but we were in Epcot just after Illuminations had finished and what a sight that was! We even videotaped it as it went up and actually DH and I were watching it yesterday! We were also in Florida when it landed and watched it come across the sky and the loud "booms" when it broke the sound barrier was incredible!:)
