I was thinking about buying a backpack carrier for a trip to Yellowstone this year & then again at Disney. For my 1 yr old. Do you think this is a good one & does anyone have a sunshaded one? Do you think this is a good idea for Disney. I LOVED my Baby Bjorn at Disney with a 6 month old but she'll really be too heavy for it by this summer. She's just under 20 lbs right now.

Any advice? How will it work like around Fantasyland? I can just take her out of it as we board the ride, right? And put the backpack at my feet?

When my son was 8 months we got year passes to disney and he hated strollers. We found a backpack/stroller combo that really worked well and used it that whole year. You might look for something like that, then you don't have to drag it on the rides with you, you can leave it with the rest of the strollers. I can't tell you how many people stopped us and asked us where we got it..and the funny thing was it was on clearance at wal-mart for like $5! It was called InStep Stroller Backpack. Here are a couple pix...

Oh forgot to say, this one came with a sun shade, we just took it off because it was December and it was bulky. Here is a pic from the web...

We have a Kelty backpack for our DS which we have used while camping and hiking. Personally, I think it would be too big and cumbersome for WDW - it would definitely NOT fit at your feet on a ride. Though they are relatively lightweight, they still have frames that prevent them from folding into a compact enough size to bring on a ride. My advice - great for Yellowstone, but you'll need something else for Disney. You might be better off w/a used one off of EBay if you think you won't be using it that much in the future, much cheaper! :goodvibes

We have a Kelty and I definitely would NOT bring it to WDW. Way too big and bulky.

We were down at WDW in December and ds turned 2yo during our trip. We used the stroller most times but when ds wanted to sleep I used a Beco carrier. You can use it on your back or your front (dh and I just did the front).

We LOVED the Beco. I was so easy to use and ds was really comfortable.

We have a Kelty, DH used it for DS2 on our first WDW trip with no problems. He was about 15 months old at the time, and it worked really well. We stowed it with the strollers when we were on a ride or whatever. Ours has a sunshade, if I remember right, and a zip-off backpack that we used to carry our stuff in.

Now he's too big for it. Boo hoo!

I have a kelty we use for my 2yr old hiking. We thought about bringing it to disney , but changed our minds. When you hike you pretty much keep the backpack on , but dw you'll be taking it on and off. We bought a joovy sit and stand for our kids. I would either go with a lighter carrier or stick with a stroller.

Oooo, I'm totally loving that Beco Butterfly. Anyone have one of those? How old a kid can you put in it?

I am getting the 4th generation Beco for my 14 month old. I believe you can use it up to 50 lbs (yeah, i don't think so.. not on my back) but I will happily carry my 23 lb dd for miles and I think she'll love it !! I can't wait for my Beco carrier !! OR, the Ergo is really nice too, comfortable and not bulky. I had this one, but couldn't do it on my own, I guess I was Ergo challenged, but it was super comfy with a 30lb toddler in it.

My ds was just over 30lbs during our December trip and both dh and I carried him just fine in the Beco.

I borrowed the Beco for our trip because I thought the buckles would be easier to deal w/ than the tie straps on my Babyhawk Mei Tai. Ds is now pushing 35lbs and I carry him comfortably in the Mei Tai all the time!

That's it! I got my income tax return today & even though most of it is already spoken for, I'm going to order myself a Beco as a splurge today. You guys ROCK!!!!

Enjoy...and 20 months is not too old to wear on your back..i love being close to my DD, and she was 2 in November. We just got back from WDW and i carried her on my back in my Kanga X (like a Beco, but much taller)most of the time..she loves it. Besides being on your back and letting them see everything lke you see it is pretty cool.. better than looking at everyone's Butts all day in a stroller..lol

i think the backpack is too much trouble for WDW. We tried it when our daughter was 22 months and it was a pain to get in and out of it for rides. I think your child will surprise you and be ok in the stroller. there is so much to see. Just my opinion.

Just comming here to post the same thing about the recall..i saw it on thebabywearer.com hopefully you ordered a 4th gen. and not a Butterfly!!!

We have a Beco! I absolutely love it. We used it for Disney when our son was 13 months old and will use it again in October when he is 2 1/2. If I remember correctly the weight on it is 40 pounds.

The weight is distributed to your waste so it is much more comfortable than the traditional framed carriers. It stuffs away easy too!

Good luck!

This stroller it the BEST!!! I have had mine for 6 years and 2 kids. No trips to WDW with it but many trips to Mall of America and the State Fair. Love the fact that it converts so easily.

I bring it with when I volunteer at school and the teachers are amazed at it. I'm not sure what it weighs but it is very lightweight but very sturdy. I stopped using it when my girls were 25 lbs. They just needed more room to move. I am very sad to give it up.

Good luck finding one. This would be my vote.

we used one from graco for zoie when we went last year. It was 79 plus shipping. has a sun shade and has lots of pockets. saved us from using a diaper bag. I started walking with her in it on my back for 2 months prior to going . SHe did not seem that heavy but after 25 min sh was. I was able to walk for hrs with her on my back. I did not have to worry about a stroller and runnin into people!
