Keeping your Entire TR in One Thread?

Why does everyone split there trip reports into a separate thread for each day. Wouldn't it make more sense for continuity purposes to just add new replies to your original thread.

Can someone tell me why it is all chopped up into many threads?

I can't speak for everyone else, but for me there are two reasons. 1) I tend to write it day by day and it may take me a few days to write the next day up. This way I can post as I write 2) Mine tend to get very long and I figure they're easier to read if they are broken up. You can read a day at a time as opposed to reading the whole thing at once or trying to come back later and finding your spot (To give you an idea of how long mine tend to be, on my last trip I was there for 5 days and the word document that I wrote the trip report in is something like 14 pages long).

You could post a new reply to the original thread and label them Day 1, Day 2, Day 3. It is just strange that all the threads are this way in this BB. Every other forum I have read or written for does it one trip = one thread. Just seems odd to me.

Funny you should mention that....

I went back in time to look at some of the trip reports written last summer and was having a really hard time trying to find all the parts of the ones I was really intrested in reading.

I link my together. They are still separate threads, but at the end of each day, I have a link to the next days. That way, if you find the first days, you can just keep clicking and read from start to finish.

I too tend to get very long winded with my reports. Posting on different threads helps to break things up.

You can also Link to the trip reports in my signature below.

glad i am not the only one. Even if posts are long. I still want to find them all in one place. I think of TR like a book. I don't want to go hunt all over my house for the next chapter when I read a book. I want to just turn the page :teeth:

Hey.... I am so happy to see reports - I don't care what format they come in!

Keep writing everyone... it is a lot of effort - much appreciate by us all.

I was just thinking that the Dis Boards should some how make each TR in one post - somehow??:)????

nobody said for anyone to stop writing. If you are going to do it this way atleast leave a bread crumb trail for the rest of us to follow. The search function is disabled.

Links to all previous and future Days should atleast be linked in the current thread.

There is nothing the board admin can do about this. It is up to the individual poster to post in one thread. The individual posters are the ones causing confusion. Also new threads take up more server space which could become a problem in the future. Adding to a current thread takes up less server space.

Just a suggestion... what I do, so that I can find and read all the TR's by one poster is to sort them by "Thread Starter" which you can do at the near bottom of the page. You can go back quite a ways and do them in ascending or descending order. That atleast makes it a bit easier to find them when you want to read a TR from 1 poster.

Thanks for your tip. Writing a trip report is a personal thing. Some like to link, some do not, some enjoy putting them all together some prefer shorter posts. Please offer suggestions, but, please do not make others feel they are wrong. Our trip reports are for everyone to enjoy. Thanks.

If you reread carefully my original post I did not say what people are doing was wrong. I merely pointed out that it is very difficult to follow the story without some kind of guide. I tend to read a book from front to back. I would just like the bread crumb trail to do so. I really don't want to read day 6 before reading days 1-5. Having multiple threads is extremely confusing. Perhaps if the search function were enabled this wouldn't be such a problem.
