Keeping Up Appearances while in the heat on vacation!!!!

Wow. I think I need to go back to bed.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it said, "Keeping Up Appearances while in heat on vacation".

Sheesh.

How does the Dove lotion smell, does it have that "tanner" smell to it? I haven't tried that one yet!

It actually smelled nice- my DH preferred it LOL It doesn't smell all "tanner" like.

Bare Minerals is the best foundation IMO. Everything else melts right off my skin in the Florida heat/humidity.

What a fun thread! I like Clinique's Superfit makeup. It's made to withstand higher humidity. Oh, and LIP GLOSS! Stays on me longer than lipstick, and looks natural for a day of parkhopping. As for mascara and hairspray, I'm a Clinique girl, too! :)

Where can I buy Bare Minerals foundation? This thread has made very curious to give it a try.....How much does it cost?

Ditto on love this thread. I too am itchin to try Bare Minerals. I see the infomericals on TV all the time.

Does it work better on oily or dry skin?

Anyone?? Is the only place I can purchase this through the TV ads? I was really hoping to be able to find it in a reatail or department store..... TIA!!
Also how much is it and if I have to send for it how much to ship??

I got strange buildup on my hair from using Garnier Fructis products. It looked kind of like dandruff after I had used it for about a month. My stylist said it was from the product I had been using.

I love Sebastian Shaper Plus hairspray. It works great in the NC and Florida humidity! It is more expensive than some brands, but I only have to put it on in the morning and it holds all day.

I have long, straight hair, so I don't wear hairspray often. When I do, I also wear Sebastian Shaper Plus. This is the only thing I've found that holds a style. Going from straight & long to curls w/ a 1/2 updo (for cruises) is no small task. If this can hold curl in my hair, it would work for anyone.

I bought a generic at Sally's Beauty Supply, when Sebastian's was out of stock at the grocery store. I couldn't tell any difference. I still usually buy Sebastians for convenience. I just pick it up at Publix, when I'm there for groceries. If I wasn't too lazy to cross the street to go to Sally's, I'd buy the generic. :o

I've never tried Bare Minerals. I have porcelain white skin, w/ basically no color anywhere, even in my cheeks. :sad2: I've been afraid to buy it, because I'm not sure it would work for my skin.

Someone earlier said to try QVC or Sephora.

I have tried it and liked it. I have ordered it from QVC.Com. I've also seen it at Nordstrom, and Sephora. I think it was around $23.00, but not sure on the price.

I purchased my original Bare Escentuals kit from the website, actually called my order in after reading it all thru and was happy that I got a bigger kit, but they soak on shipping and handling.

For someone who is just trying it out for the first time, there are some nice starter type of kits on QVC, Sephora and even on eBay. I'd start with the foundation, a cheek/eye color and the mineral veil at least. The shades as they show them on their website are pretty true to life and I use a mixture of 2 foundation shades to get the perfect match for me (light & fairly light).

My skin goes from oily to combination to dry, depending on the time of month, year and season! I've had really consistent results using the BE products and have bought refills on eBay without any problems. HTH!

And thanks to the poster who mentioned the Dove product, I'm going to try some of that soon!

I live in Florida and the heat and humidity are killers. The best product to buy is SPACKLE. (Not real spackle, that's just the product's name :) )
It is a bit pricey, but it lasts forever and then you won't need different makeup. Just apply it before your foundation. (I feel like a commercial all of a sudden.)
Good luck!

Sheer Cover works well for me in the summer heat and humidity. I have a lot of freckles too. The price of sheer cover is not too expensive IMO. The powders in the kit last months. Great coverage w/o an overly dolled-up-face result. Love it.
As far as hair spray is concerned, why not try an anti-humidity shampoo first. I totally forgot who makes that line of products(anti-humidity). Maybe some of you might remember.

Bare Minerals for me too! It isn't cheap but it lasts me forever! Seriously, it takes me about a year to use up the full size minerals. I just started using a cheapo kabuki brush I picked up at Target for about $2.99 and now I love the Bare Minerals even more. I have a few freckles and it covers pretty well. I don't mind freckles though. I use a bit of Mineral Veil and then a mixture of Clear Radiance and Warmth. I use a self-tanner on my face during the summer so I don't really need the foundation. That brings me to tanners. I'll have to second the Loreal Sublime products. I alternate between the tanning gelee and the bronze products. Love them both! I also love the wash off waterproof mascara from Avon. I use Dove shampoo to take it off. Otherwise it stays put. Really - the Bare Minerals stays nice all day and if I use the Mineral Veil especially, it seems like it even looks better the longer I have it on. I wish I could go bare but I'm just not one of those natural beauties, but this stuff looks so good that I don't look high maintenance either. I'm wondering how you can get ready in 20 minutes! I really need to pick up the pace! Good Luck!

How does the tanning gelee smell? Does it leave that weird fake tan smell with you all day or not? Hoping to find something that doesnt smell weird, lol!

I can't wait to find all of these miracle products.

I found a great hairspray. It is under $3 too! Garnier Fructis full control all day flexible hold strong. The only problem is that it is aerosole (I don't know how to spell that) and since we can't take it on-board I won't be able to take it. I am going to try the pump and see if it works as well. It seems to hold pretty strong without holding my hair in one giant hair helmet clump!

I could really use the mascara and foundation ideas though!

Why can't you pack it?

BTW. Another Bare Minerals lover here. I use the mineral veil before the foundation in high humidity and then again to finish it up. Last a long time.

All right moms, i'm a mother of three and i have 20 minutes to get myself ready for the day, once ready, i don't have time to re-arrange, re-brush or re-apply anything.....help please with:

a foundation make up that covers well, doesn't run or disappear with sweat, doesn't look cakey on, doesn't settle into fine lines and DOES NOT COST A FORTUNE....

a hairspray that holds like concrete but doesn't build up like white paint in your hair, and DOES NOT COST A FORTUNE

a mascara that makes you have mile long lashes that doesn't run (btw, love that song, men and mascara always run, teehee) removes easily and DOESNT COST A FORTUNE

a self tanner that makes you look tan, sexy, hot, etc. that also looks real, doesn't run and lasts a while, when you are as white as Casper the Ghost...........

and again, DOES NOT COST A FORTUNE.........

thanks in advance!!!

I am a hairdresser so I have the perfect hairspray for you for FLORIDA! I would not us this in my DRY climate of Utah...It's by AVEDA and it's the ANTI-Humidity one. OMGosh you'll love it!!! It's more than the grocery/drug store ones but I swear on my stack of Lime Green Mickey Head Paint Chips, it's the best for Orlando. It's sold at some salons..Maybe there's an AVEDA website?

May favorite waterproof BUDGE proof mascara is Marathon by Cover girl. I crimp my lashes first. Then do two light coats. Allow to dry when you are at a mirror with a wet Q-tip, because if it gets on your upper eye-lid or on the skin below your lashes...IT IS STUCK! Removes with effort with a good oil based eye make up remover...It takes a while and I'm guilty of sleeping in it and re-crimping and applying another coat. ( :sad2: )

I am the QUEEN of the self tanner. Hate most of them. Except the Loreal Sublime Bronze line. I get the med/dark one. It is a self-tanner and bronzer in one NOT orange. Goof proof. No streaking. Just exfoliate your skin with a little sugar added to liq. soap. and scrub your skin before. You need to exfoliate no matter what self tanner you use.

I LOVE mineral makeup but some are frosty (a little) and tend to accentuate my fine lines. Plus, they're very spendy! I like the Physician's Formula one that's at Walmart. It's in a cake form like a pressed powder. I use this after a little concealer and I look fresh all day (for a nearly 39 yr. old that's a good product!) I only reapply if my face gets WET from a ride or rain...doesnt really sweat off.

Hope this helps!!

Hi

I found one product that I absolutely love :lovestruc . It's a tinted moisturizer that has something in it that cools your skin. It's called Backdrop Cooling Tint and Smashbox Cosmetics makes it. You can get it on QVC. A tube is $32.00 but it lasts forever. I have had mine for almost 6 months. Won't use anything else, especially in the hot weather. As for mascara, Clinique makes one called Naturally Glossy and it never clumps or runs. Looks very natural and is about $13 for a tube. I don't use hairspray so can't help there. I do know that I always pack my cosmetics for vacation but after a day or so can't be bothered. I figure I can't look that bad, but maybe ignorance is bliss.

Enjoy your trip! :cool1:
