Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

Interesting since Southwest cancelled my flight from Washington DC to MCO arriving Thursday evening at 9:50pm.
Unfortunately it makes perfect sense for SWA. If MCO is scheduled (at this time) to open at 6 PM then SWA would need to schedule crews, planes, and commit to a scheduled set of flights that might not actually happen. It would be a very narrow window.

In their Scheduling system it just makes more sense to skip MCO tomorrow and restart their schedule on Friday.

We are due to land from the UK 4:50pm on Friday. Our airline have offered no cancellations or amendments for Friday flights as yet and advised that the plan is for MCO to reopen dependant on damage at 6pm Thursday.

Just check again before you head to your airport. Are you traveling via LHR or LHG? Your flight will not take-off if does not have a flight plan approved to an open MCO.

Our VA flight home to Manchester on Thursday night has been cancelled and has been moved to 6pm Friday so I’m hopeful everything will be open by then.

For those saying that it's "only" a category three storm by the time it hits Disney......a category 3 hurricane is bad. "Winds 111-129 mph (96-112 kt or 178-208 km/hr). Devastating damage will occur: Well-built framed homes may incur major damage or removal of roof decking and gable ends. Many trees will be snapped or uprooted, blocking numerous roads. Electricity and water will be unavailable for several days to weeks after the storm passes." A category 3 hurricane is not a small thunderstorm. We all saw what Helene did to parts of North Carolina, and that wasn't as strong as Milton.

It is not expected to be a category 3 when it makes its closest approach to Disney. Most likely a category 1, maybe a 2.

Yes a Cat 3 is bad but a Cat 1 can also cause the impacts you list. There is no indication that it will be a Cat 3 inland. The biggest impact inland and around Orlando is Straight line winds or Tornado activity.

I was thinking it was closer to a 2 at Orlando, but I could be wrong. Hopefully so.

We fly in on Saturday. I am packing like we are going but also trying to set expectations for my kids. My SIL just texted and asked if we were still going or if she could expect us for Thanksgiving after all, so I guess at least if my plans get cancelled, I don’t have to scramble to cook a holiday dinner 😂.

Until any further update at 5 PM it is projected to be a Cat 1 moving at 10 MPH with 85 MPH winds, gusting up to 105 MPH. In about 16 hours from now.

We were supposed to arrive in MCO today (SWA). Sunday we were able to move our flight to this upcoming Saturday. Yesterday we got notice our Saturday flight might be cancelled so we moved our flight to next Wednesday. Thankfully (sort of), the Disney part of our trip doesn’t start until 10/19.

We had planned some time to visit friends on the gulf coast. Those friends have evacuated to the east FL coast. We are now doing an Orlando only trip. Bummer to not get to see our friends this trip. Hope everyone in FL stays safe.

Yes weather channel's most recent update shows a 1 in Orlando.

Please pack for cool evenings as the current outlook is for the mid to low 60's overnight through next Wednesday.

It is good still keep a sense of humor and have options for a dinner with family.
