Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

We are all set in our Music Resort room. We have salads, snacks and water. We have what we need and requested no housekeeping in our room. (No need for that) A building manager just stopped by to check on us to see if we needed anything. (Probably because we had requested no service today) Disney is on top of this❤️ Good luck to everyone, I have friends here in Florida in Ft. Myers and of course they are worried. 🙏

There has been a bright side. Wife and daughters flew in last night and Magic Kingdom was absolutely dead today with everything basically a walk on. They rode everything they wanted and had a fun doing it. Had tickets to MNSSHP for tomorrow and Disney moved the tickets to the Friday party. Getting to be time now to hunker down and ride out the storm.

Well, we just received the dreaded (but not unexpected) notice from the airline that our flight's cancelled. And the earliest we can get there is Saturday. I wonder if we can extend our stay a couple days.

If you don't mind me asking, when were you to fly in? and what airline were you flying? We are supposed to fly in on Friday AM hence my questions. TIA

MCO airport on X is a good follow, they post updates as soon as announced. No planes in until they announce the re-opening timeline.

While they talk about working with their partners, we have seen no indication in the past that airlines had inside info on closing or opening times.

ETA- their handle is @mco

There are MULTIPLE confirmed tornado warnings in south and central Florida right now. People need to stay very aware of the weather and have a plan. This includes multiple instances just south of the Disney area.

They have added several additional warnings since I captured this about ten minutes ago. If you have not already done so, please download your favorite weather app so you can get notifications and take cover. Stay safe everyone!

The Airlines do have inside information about the the Airport facilities schedule for returning to full service. The Airport will open well before any flights actually arrive or schedule outbound flights. As always check with your airline for any updates on your flights.

The thing that everyone needs to keep in mind each Carrier makes their own decisions as to when their Flight schedule begin to ramp back up toward what we all consider "Normal".

On the plus side of things at MCO:

Security Wait Times

Gates 1-59: 3-7 mins

Gates 70-129: 3-7 mins

Gates C230-C245: 1-3 min

When was your flight? Ours is Friday 930pm from BOS (expected to land around 12:45am Saturday)

Just to add most Tornado Watch boxes don't expire until 9 PM tonight and many will be extended. The Warning are more dynamic and most average about 1 hour.

This is a website I use to track flight delays impacting MCO:
https://www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/flyfaaindex.jsp?ARPT=MCO&p=0
If the link doesn't work, search for "FAA MCO Delays" The first search result should be the FAA site with a .gov in the address. It will also give information about the expected reopening, which of course is subject to change.

My daugther's flight MCO->DAL on Friday morning was reschedule by Southwest to Friday night. She needed to be in Dallas by early afternoon so she's not going. Southwest is still showing availability for that route on Friday night.

Our Friday flight was just cancelled
Oh no, that's a major bummer. I'm sorry to hear :guilty: Can you share which airline canceled and your previous arrival time? We have a flight booked for Friday, and we are doing the same. Weekend trip for MNSSHP.

Our Friday flight was just cancelled and they are telling us the soonest they can get us there is Sunday (we were coming down just for the weekend and to catch MNSSHP).
Yes this weekend is a very popular and busy Holiday weekend and there is no extra capacity. Right now MCO is schedule to "Open" for Commercial traffic tomorrow at 6 PM. This is always subject to change but that is what is posted with the FAA.

We also expect other FLA airports beyond TPA and MCO to have extended Ground Stops or even closures.

Interesting since Southwest cancelled my flight from Washington DC to MCO arriving Thursday evening at 9:50pm.
