When we were at WDW a bit over a week ago, DS (6 1/2 yo) loved looking at everyone's lanyards. The more pins a person had on his lanyard, the more interested my DS was! Not necessarily to trade, but to see what they had. Now, for most of the trip, DS did not wear his lanyard ... kept it stashed in my backpack. And, he traded mainly w/CM's b/c they were easy to trade w/.
So ... DS sees a person wearing three lanyards, chock full of pins. He's yet to run into someone w/so many lanyards on at one time and he's utterly amazed! On his own (and he can be shy!), he decides to go up to the person, without his lanyard, and says "May I please look at your pins?". DS, who has no interest in trading, is not wearing his lanyard and does not have a single pin on his body, ... just wants a peek. The person snaps at him "I'm not a cast member and I don't trade with kids!" So, I said kindly "Oh, he just wanted to admire them" and the person got kind of huffy at having to show a child the pins! I thought people liked to show off their pins!!! At any rate, my child only wanted to peek!
I was soooo stunned that a pin trader would give a kid the cold shoulder!!! I know that most pin traders are kind, esp. to kids who are interested. And, I can understand if you don't want to trade w/a child ... but there's no reason to snap at them! I was so taken aback!!!!
While I'm sure nobody here would act that way, I guess I just want to remind everyone to please be nice to the kiddies. Don't snap at them, esp. if all they want to do is take a little peek! I think if you explain things nicely to children, they'll understand!
