Last year I found a really great deal on a new mac book air and splurged and bought it. I love my iphone and ipad so I figured i'd love that. I don't have a desktop so I figured it would come in handy. Mostly when I ran into problems getting onto certain sites on the ipad. Well the mac book air sits. I rarely use it. My kids don't like it much either. I find it confusing so I mostly just use my ipad. I talked to an apple store near here and they would buy it from me for $500 cash. I'm on the fence about it. Why I don't know, because it just sits. Am I missing something to love about it? Do I really need it since I have my ipad?

1) what do you find confusing?

2) Do you still have sites that you want to visit on the ipad that don't load properly?

Maybe confusing is the wrong word. I did find it confusing at first. Now it just seems like a hassle clicking on stuff, etc. It's just so easy with the ipad. And no, I don't seem to have any problems getting on anything now with my ipad.

Well, I don't understand clicking on things being a hassle, but I'm not you. :) So if you don't use it, I would think, don't hesitate to sell it.

lol. I think i've used my ipad and iphone with the touchscreens so long, it was just a bit different to get use to. Seems like such a hassle compared to my ipad.

Well, the Mac Air is much different than a regular laptop, mostly because the "gestures" technology that tries to mimic a cell phone. However, once you get used to it, it is much more "natural" than a traditional laptop. After having my Mac Air for two years, there is no way I am ever going back to a clunky laptop. The Air is so light that I have to check to make sure that it is in my bag. If you have no need for a laptop, then sell it. If you do need a laptop then take some time to learn how to use the Air and I know you'll love it.

I would not be too surprised if future Airs will have a touch screen with a fully fold-behind keyboard. Essentially, an iPad with a keyboard. I'm hoping, so that I can upgrade in the next year or two.

If I were in your situation then I'd definitely sell it. No sense in letting it sit around and become obsolete if you aren't using it (although I think I would use it!)
My only thought would be could you sell it to an individual for more $$? You might say something to your family and friends about selling it for $700 and see if you have any takers. If not then I'd sell it to apple.

DH and I just got Airs two weeks ago. This past weekend we went to the free workshop at the Apple store. It was basic but helpful for us who are just starting out with Mac. We both have iPads and iPhones but the Air is a whole different thing. If you have an Apple store near you I would recommend going to the free workshop before you decide. Learning the gestures is taking us some time but in the end is much more similar to using an iPad than a PC.

It sounds like you really have no need for it, so I do think selling it seems like a good idea.

$500 seems really cheap though. I'd probably try to unload it myself to family or on eBay/Craigslist for more before selling to Apple at that price.

I'm absolutely in love with my Air and couldn't ever think of selling it, it's so intuitive to use and its amazingly light so always comes on vacation with me.

Saying that though, if you definitely don't use it then all it's doing is haemorrhaging money as it sits there becoming older.

So though I don't see how you wouldn't get on with it (I sold my iPad after getting the Air) if it doesn't work for you then sell it now while it still has worth.

$500 is really cheap...

I still use my MacBook, most of the time, because I still do things like my taxes, and some word processing. Typing easier on my laptop for sure.

I want a new one this fall..... mine is the old white MAcBook, they dont even sell these anymore. :worried:

I think I'd part with it only if there's no way you'll ever use a laptop of any kind ever again, ever. But $500 is very, very low for a computer of that quality.

The new MacBook Airs are listed @ $999. If I were intent on selling it, I'd list it on Craigslist at $879 and look at what offers you get. No way I'd sell for $500.

I don't know the specs of your Macbook, but I got an estimate for one on Gazelle.com and they offered $582 -- and I tried to be conservative, so you may get more with the actual specs

I've had friends get rid of their old cell phones through Gazelle, they have a good reputation for giving you a fair price.

If your MacBook Air is only a year old, $500 is a LOW offer, eBay would bring a lot more money. However, eBay is probably a huge hassle with a lot of potential disasters. I know when I was looking for one on eBay, older ones (like 2010's) were going for well over $500.

You could try Craigslist, but that too is a hassle, and people actually coming up with the money to pay for it....

That being said, how can somebody not like a MacBook Air?? But if you don't want it... might as well sell it and let somebody else enjoy it.

I have a MacBook, and I use it over my phone all the time. Yeah, the phone is convenient when I'm out and about but I'd rather have a bigger screen and keyboard. Don't you ever have a need to type something? Do taxes? Will your kids need something to do research on? Write papers? Fill out college applications?

I'm getting an Air for work, and an iPad Mini, so I may change my mind after using them more, but I find myself reaching for my laptop over my phone or DH's iPad all the time.

If you choose to sell it, sell it privately through Craigslist or to a friend. $500 is really low.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm still thinking about it. I got it out again to use it. I just don't like it compared to my ipad. I feel bad that I spent all that money on it and it literally just sits. I love my ipad and use it all the time. I have a keyboard for it, so typing isn't a problem. As for taxes I do do them, but I do them on my ipad. My son has used it for school but he had trouble converting the stuff over to the older computers at his school after he saved stuff from the mac book. After reading the posts on here I did list it on craigslist for $700. People who did reply wanted to give me less then $500. I don't think I want to try ebay, I haven't sold on there. The apple store that wanted to buy it for $500 is a third party apple store that buys and sells used apples (as well as new).

Don't be confused between what people have offered you for it and what its value is. Some people on CL simply want you to give them stuff. I had one women come to look at a vehicle I was selling. I originally listed it for $750, but offered it to her for $700. She said it was too much. I told her that CarMax offered me $650 for it and that it would not be worth my time to go with her to get a certified check for less than $50. She said she would have to check her account. I never heard back from her and took the vehicle to CarMax.
