Kate's Back on Track Journal - comments welcome

Way to go DD on her 1st roller coaster ride, there will be no stopping her now!!!
The fireworks pic looks awesome!! We dont get any that good here!! I need to emigrate :)
Have a great week!

Sounds like your family's been having a great time! I'm like your daughter - a big chicken when it comes to rides!:scared1: Put me on the kiddy rollercoaster and I'm fine. I still haven't done Rockin Rollercoaster. Hope your enjoying the Fall weather.

Congrats for DD's first successful roller coaster ride! DD#1 is very reserved and cautious, but she LOVES roller coasters. DD#2 is much more fearless, but wouldn't go on any roller coasters until last spring. Now Space Mountain is her favorite ride - go figure! :rotfl2:

Your Labor day weekend sounds like it was really nice and those fireworks look fantastic!

Well, at least I've been able to run most days this past week.

Friday started out ok, but then turned AWFUL. I had just gotten back from a long run, and was climbing in the shower, when the phone rang. It was school, calling to say come get DD, we think she may have lice! :faint: :scared: :scared1: There was a reported case in the junior high, so the school nurse was checking everyone.

DD has dandruff and very dry scalp, seems to go along with her other allergies. I'm still not sure if what they saw was just her normal flaky condition or what, but I didn't take any chances. I used the special anti-lice shampoo, stripped all the beds, vacuumed everything in site, and did laundry the entire weekend!!! :laundy: :laundy: :laundy: :laundy:

By Sunday night I was exhausted! :headache:

In my old days, that would have been sure cause for :drinking1

Everything seems ok now, I sent her to school today, and I hope that's the end of it. My house sure is a lot cleaner!

Food for today, I'm really trying to make some progress here.

OMG you poor thing. Lice is so common this time of year and such a pain to deal with. You were smart to be proactive, why take the chance? And a cleaner house is always a good thing! Your food as usual is so awesome. I need to be more like you!

What a weekend! Glad to hear it was a false alarm though. I live in fear of Lice. All three girls have long hair. At one point DD#2 had hair down to her rear. It was gorgeous, but so hard to take care of. Last year she cut +12 inches and donated it. Now it is only midback.

Your food looks great. Every time I read your journal, it reminds me I want to buy Laughing cow cheese.

Wow - what an exhausting weekend you had! Look at it this way - you got even more exercise than just from your run! AND......your house is spotless and your laundry is finished! :teeth: Hope the lice was just a false alarm. Hope you have a great week ahead!!

Oh, I went through the lice thing last year. It was AWFUL! Both my kids have sandy blond hair, the exact same color of lice. Every single night we were going through their hair. I was very close to shaving DD's hair off, but she would have been devastated...

Your food looks great and I'm glad you are getting your exercise in! Keep it up! :cheer2: :cool1:

Lice??? I have had a child with impitiego today!! (sorry i know i've spelt it wrong!)
I just know i will get it just before the wedding!!!
See theres always someone worse off....& its usualy me lol :)
Eating looks great, well done :)

Kate, sorry about the lice scare! Thats definately NOT a good thing. I'm so glad she didn't have it, but its nerve wracking not to mention alot of work!

Great job on jogging! :cool1:

Oooh, I'll have to try the egg sandwich with Laughing Cow. Sounds good! :thumbsup2 And I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering what gingersnap stew is... :rolleyes1

Tracey, laughing cow is a small wedge of soft, spreadable cheese, only 35 calories, no (or very little fat) quite tasty.

The Gingersnap stew is something I got from one of my WW friends a long time ago. I'm at work right now, but I'll post the recipe when I'm home.

It has veggies, smoked sausage pieces, kidney beans, tomatoes and at the end you add crushed gingersnap cookies, which thickens the soup and adds a somewhat sweet flavor.

Food so far for Thursday:

4 Kashi Go Lean with yogurt and strawberries and blueberries.
0 coffee

1 veggie chili
1 toast with laughing cow
2 apple
1 orange

1 sugar snap peas with hummus

Have to go home and see what's for dinner, sometimes DD13 will cook! :sunny:

You are doing SO well, Kate!

Gingersnap stew sounds good, and fun! Good combination!!

Glad you are over the Lice scare. That is SO not fun! I remember when I was coaching gymnastics in KS and we discovered a kid w/ Lice in classes. We had to clean the whole gym including trying to clean the foam in the huge pit. UGH!!

Have a great rest of the week and weekend!

Working all day today, urgh, but I do have time to do things during the week, so it all balances out.

DH will go to DD's soccer game so I can stay here working.

Yesterday was odd with the food. I went grocery shopping with my mom, our usual Friday thing, but I got up and was busy getting the kids ready etc, and didn't eat breakfast. We were in a hurry since mom had to get back early. While I was walking around the store I started getting weird feeling, kinda light headed, so I grabbed a candy bar. I've had this happen once or twice before where I suppose my blood sugar was low or something.

Eating the candy helped, but later I also ate a WW muffin. I felt fine the rest of the day, but I probably should mention it at the doctor's some time and have it checked out. I don't often skip a meal though!! :rotfl:

DD had been wanting a final summer meal (hamburgers, corn on the cob) so we did that last night.

So here's the food.

5 mounds bar (at least I got the coconut - think I can count that for a fruit?? :lmao:
3 WW muffin
1 1/2 cup milk

5 turkey sandwich on whole wheat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions
1 Blue bunny fudge lite

7 cheeseburger on bun with lettuce, onion, pickle, spicy mustard (lean hamburger, lite bun, lite cheese)

2 corn with a pinch of butter

24 total points
lots of water
3 f/v
3 dairy

5 AP's At least I got to run yesterday, and did some walking with DD in the afternoon. And what about lugging all those groceries??

I feel lightheaded when I haven't eaten much too. It's a weird feeling isn't it! Hope you enjoyed that last summer meal! I still can't believe summer is basically over! I'm in denial! ;) Good job on the exercising. Carrying groceries DEFINITELY counts! ;)

I agree carrying groceries definatly counts (& the coconut) :)
Hope you feel ok now after the dizzy spell, definatly worth getting it checked out to be on the safe side!

Gingersnap stew sounds great. I'm definitely going to try that. Could I do it in the crockpot, do you think?

Sounds like you had low blood sugar, but it is something to mention to the doctor. Kudos on going grocery shopping hungry. :cheer2: That is when I get into the most trouble buying stuff I shouldn't.

OK, here is the recipe for Gingersnap Stew

Cooking spray
3 carrots peeled and sliced into 3/4" pieces (I use baby carrots - about 2 dozen chopped)
3 medium stalks celery, cut into 1/2" pieces
1/2 cup chopped onion
8 - 12 oz. cooked smoked sausage (low fat turkey sausage works well) cut into 1 inch pieces
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 of a 15 oz. can dark red kidney beans
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 14 oz. can stewed (or plain diced) tomatoes
6 gingersnap cookies, crushed (about 1/2 cup)

In deep soup pan cook carrots, celery and onions in cooking spray over medium heat about 5 minutes or until onion is nearly tender. Remove veggies and set aside.
Add sausage pieces to pan and brown over medium heat. Drain any fat if necessary.
Return veggies to pan. Add water, beans, chili powder and Worcestershire. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer covered for 20 minutes or until veggies are tender (not mushy). Stir in undrained tomatoes, add crushed gingersnaps. Continue cooking and stir until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.

Makes 4 servings, Enjoy! (WW estimated points: 3 per serving)

(I guess you could brown the meat and then throw it all in the crockpot, but add the gingersnaps at the end. - Let me know if you try it!) :sunny:
