~ Kate Plus Eight ~

I won't be watching. I have a hard time finding entertainment in the exploitation of children.

those poor swim teachers. and train conductor at day out with Thomas, oh that poor choo choo driver, and the dog breeder, and furniture salesperson (I use "sales" loosely since no money was exchanged) and crooked house people and organic farmer, and her brother and sister in law, all those non nannies, and the barefooted camera crew, hopeful family helpers, paid family helpers, volunteer family helpers, penguin keeper, Disney host, former residents of her mansion, Beth, and the nurses at the nicu reunion, and, and, and.

.

You got that right! They must have to pay these people double price to work with Kate. Oh wait, I forgot, she does it all alone--just ask her!:rolleyes1

No - I won't be watching..

Hopefully her other show - "Twist of Kate" - which I knew nothing about until today - will be a huge success (as long as it's filmed minus the kids).. :thumbsup2

In a recent statement she expressed how happy she was that "Kate+8" would be airing soon - as it's "needed" in order to "put food on the table".. I guess that means there's no money left from before? :confused3

link? I'd like to see where she's quoted as saying that.

I kind of have an issue with the use of "exploitation" constantly in regards to the Gosselin children. Exploited children are those who are forced into child labor because they're cheaper and their little fingers fit better into nice heavy machinery. Exploited children are kidnapped, brainwashed, and handed guns to become child soldiers. Exploited children are sold into child prostitution.

The Gosselin children are on TV. They've earned lots of money from it. They have a million dollar house with room enough for all of them. They get to go to places most families can only dream about taking vacations to and given the VIP treatment the entire time. Yes, they have had millions of people get to watch their embarrassing moments (like getting your constipated poop removed by your father in the back of a van). Yes, they have ample videotape of their parents fighting, but if anything that should help them understand their parents' divorce when they are older. They will probably have to come to deal with their "celebrity" status at some time in the future when they realize they are no longer celebrities. But if you compare them to families like the Jacksons and such, the Gosselins are doing pretty well. Is some of their show set up? Do they have to do re-takes? Probably some of it. However, you can't watch an episode which is mostly about the kids running around and think they are being directed in their every move and word. I think most of the work they are doing involves the couch interviews.

I bring up the house and the money for two reasons. Yes, I get angry when Kate (who nets millions of dollars from her books alone) pretends they are poor and she is struggling to makes ends meet. However, I don't buy the uncle's arguments that all of the money goes to whatever Kate and Jon want and the kids don't get anything. From all talks (and I will be upfront that I only really watch the show and don't follow every tidbit in the magazines or on Entertainment Tonight), the house is the children's. They had an episode before they moved where Jon and Kate set up a will and trusts for the children, with stipulations about when the money would be given to the kids, education, etc.

Sorry about the long post, I just think that by many standards, the choices Kate has made aren't that bad. I see moms on shows like Toddlers & Tiaras who are a million times worse in their treatment of their children and it's usually for a plastic crown and $100.

Is this a regular series? I don't see it listed in TV Guide for the next 2 Sundays--unless it changes nights after this week:confused3

there's a lot of speculation about how much money has been set aside for the Gosselin children. That's something that has always fallen into the "gray area", where Jon and Kate are concerned.

I especially agree with the bolded part.

and as far as the house goes, you're right. Jon & Kate said that it was bought for the children. Not sure how that all played out after the divorce.

I would love to be able to give you a link, madge - but I don't remember where I read it.. It was probably in a link to one of her recent interviews on the other thread.. I really haven't been paying attention to her since they stopped the filming of the kids (I was SO thrilled!!!! :thumbsup2) and only returned to the other thread recently to find out if it was true that she was back to selling her kids childhood again and how often the kids would be working (every week; every other week; occasionally; etc. - which I never did get an answer to).. I've been so out of touch, I didn't even know she had another show she would be appearing on until today.. LOL..

If the kids are not involved, I really hope that "Twist of Kate" is a HUGE success so that she can support the kids and their needs instead of them supporting hers.. Keeping my fingers crossed for her on that one..:goodvibes

I just want to know exactly how the house is "for the kids". do they own it?, will they all live there after they are grown? Will Jon and Kate sell it when the kids are grown and split the profits or do they have to wait until Jon and Kate die? I have never believed that the house was the kids. I have actually heard them refer to it as the kids house, almost like the kids own it. What a crock. Kate wanted that big house with all that room. I don't blame her, I would too. Just own up to it.

I guess saying the house is the kids is Kate's way of justifying the exploitation of her kids. They have to work to maintain that house. If they want to go on vacation, they must be filmed because then they get everything for free and special treatment. :confused3

My kids and I are all set to watch Kate +8 on Sunday! We love Kate!

So glad its back on the air! More power to them!

You are right ... I cannot find this show airing at all after the season premier on Sunday. I checked the TLC website and there guide is up through June 16th and I do not see another epi after this Sunday ... :confused3

I believe this is a two hour special, not the first of a weekly series of shows.

I'm very excited and can't wait to see Kate and the kids!

Oh, ok, AlleyKat, thanks, I changed the title of the thread to 2 hour special ... so I guess this is NOT a series then.

Me too. I saw where she said she was happy to have a job..but it takes imagination to pull the rest out of that quote. Anyone have a quote where Kate said she needed to start the show to feed the kids? I actually haven't heard her say much about needing to pay the bills, since Jon was made to return the money.

I'll be watching tonight if we have electricity.
