Justins Wish trip :) Pre trip report...

I love photos and will look at pretty much anyone's albums! I am a history nerd (went to school for it) and one of my favourite things is old photos. The older the better. They just fascinate me. I love looking in the background of photos, especially from my grandparents' era. I like all the old furniture and clothing and just everything! I also love the really old photos because they're a tangible representation of something important. If a person took a photo of it in 1920, it was a big deal, you know? When you take maybe 15 photos a year you have to make them count. Wow...I'm a nerd. When I have kids their lives will be very well documented!

The post you have all been waiting for !!!

Big Give #3 came from MaeB and it is this completely genius travel Tic Tac Toe game.

As a complete plus it is super soft with no hard edges so I can see using it in a pinch as a mini pillow for the cranky kid who needs a break...gotta love a multi-tasker ;)

I love old photos too, have you heard of Vivian Maier? She was a Nanny and secret street photographer:

The following is from the Vivian Maier website:
http://www.vivianmaier.com/portfolios/new-york-1/?show=thumbnails

"This nanny who has now wowed the world with her photography, and who incidentally recorded some of the most interesting marvels and peculiarities of Urban America in the second half of the twentieth century is seemingly beyond belief.

An American of French and Austro-Hungarian extraction, Vivian bounced between Europe and the United States before coming back to New York City in 1951. Having picked up photography just two years earlier, she would comb the streets of the Big Apple refining her artistic craft. By 1956 Vivian left the East Coast for Chicago, where she’d spend most of the rest of her life working as a caregiver. In her leisure Vivian would shoot photos that she zealously hid from the eyes of others. Taking snapshots into the late 1990′s, Maier would leave behind a body of work comprising over 100,000 negatives. Additionally Vivian’s passion for documenting extended to a series of homemade documentary films and audio recordings. Interesting bits of Americana, the demolition of historic landmarks for new development, the unseen lives of ethnics and the destitute, as well as some of Chicago’s most cherished sites were all meticulously catalogued by Vivian Maier.

A free spirit but also a proud soul, Vivian became poor and was ultimately saved by three of the children she had nannied earlier in her life. Fondly remembering Maier as a second mother, they pooled together to pay for an apartment and took the best of care for her. Unbeknownst to them, one of Vivian’s storage lockers was auctioned off due to delinquent payments. In those storage lockers lay the massive hoard of negatives Maier secretly stashed throughout her lifetime.

Maier’s massive body of work would come to light when in 2007 her work was discovered at a local thrift auction house on Chicago’s Northwest Side. From there, it would eventually impact the world over and change the life of the man who championed her work and brought it to the public eye, John Maloof."

LOL but the off topic TR as it is, refreshing and really been heart warming to read. I did have to skip a few pages to catch up, as it is soon that you leave.

The photo's are great, the Apple 4s does not accept a mini card or link to download?
I just got a SLR last year and keep it on auto settings, the Panasonic has been my go to camera for work. I use both at Disney.

You are smart to have so many photos for memories when you all grow old. As my kids grew up we had only film and it was expensive and many photos did not turn out.
di

Glad you are enjoying the off topic, once I start the official TR I will try to stick more to the official details, we will see if I can do it!!
When we moved to alberta a week before Justin was born we were super broke and pictures were so important that they were our only extra every payday we bought 2 rolls of film and developed 2 rolls at Wal Mart. I really need to get those pictures onto disc.

Next time you have time to play set your SLR to AV that will make everything but aperture auto. from there you can change the Fstop to change the depth of field.
The smaller the number the more shallow your depth of field so if you wanted DGS in focus but the castle and all of the passerbys behind him to be out of focus & fuzzy lower the fstop. but play with it depending on what lens you are using how low you go his nose might be in focus and his ears fuzzy...

Yes I can unload my iphone using a usb and I need to do it soon I just like having them at hand!!

some examples of the hipstimatic photos ...

I am so glad that the tutu made it to you. It looks great on Callie and the small one looks amazing on Ariel, I'm glad that worked out. Enjoy it. I love all your pictures and can't wait to see the rest of the Gives!

Glad my package made it! I had to abandon the wrapping I had done to get it flat enough to be mailed as a letter and not a package...hence the no frills delivery. :) I never thought of using it as a pillow but you're right, that would work perfectly in a pinch!

Thanks for the link for those old photos. That is exactly the era that I love the most.

Fabulous gives! Callie looks adorable in her tutu!

And keep those pictures coming -- I wish I lived near you -- I'd invite myself over and look at every single photo of yours!

Lol Andrea! I'd make you a snack & a London Fog to enjoy while you looked....only problem is I need to get all of the photos into albums...

:) Vivian M. amazes me. Her photos make me want a time machine so I can go back and take photos. Just imagine The different sort of life that was on the street a time when cameras were rare and people were less sensitive or photo shy and perhaps more willing to have a stranger shoot a pic. Nowadays it could be dangerous to shoot a pic of a random person on the street, they may end up chasing you with a bat or something!

Callie looks Adorable with a capitol A in her tutu!!! There may even be a top to match coming along soon!!;)
