I have been reading the board for years. Wanted say all of your tips and ideas helped with my trip in Oct, 2010. ( I know it took a long while ,but life get in the way sometimes,). The fort to me holds a special place in my heart like many of you. My memories go back to 1972 with my first visit to visit my grand parent who worked at tri circle d from 1971 to 1982, grandpa manager of the barn, grandma take phone reservation for horse trail rides. We always visited in July and August and once at Christmas. As i grew older I was able to go to with my grand parents . Help sweep the stable ,harness the street car horses and off to the Magic Kingdom for day off fun. With handful of Magic Key tickets and instruction to be back by a certain time to go home.

In those years we stayed at my grand parents house. I always wanted to stay on property we never did for some reason. My grand parents have long since passed but the love, memories, and magic that was instilled in me has never gone away. Like all of I grew older and stopped going on vacation with Mom and Dad. My last trip there at that time was 1983, but a day didn't go by that I did not think ok Walt Disney World. As I said earlier life has a way of getting in the way.

After an absence of over thirty years I was able to fulfill a dream of driving my camper to the fort with my DW and DD for their first trip to the fort and show them the place I loved as child. It has been several years since we went (planning to go in the near future) we still talk about it as if it were yesterday and say "It was the greatest trip ever".

To all keep the love and magic in your hearts of this special place .

Thank you

TrustTheScupper:
. . . You are not the only camper or CM that feels this was about The Fort
. . . It instills a fondness found at no other WDW resort
. . . Us CM's think it is because of us
. . . Campers think it is because of them
. . . I will settle for a mix of both

Thanks for sharing your memories with us Chitown Dis Fan! What wonderful ones!

Chitown,

You wrote a very lovely post. That's why I love the Fort too.

Those early memories with your grandparents sound very special.

I hope you can get your family back to the Fort sometime soon to relax and enjoy.

Bama Ed

PS - and I think you CAN "trust the Scupper...."

Thanks for the replies, would have done sooner but wrote post in between camping trips this past week. Unfortunatly not the fort(Door County,Wis. and my sportsman club). I look forward to all of your ideas, tips, and trip reports as I plan my next trip.

PS- Bama Ed I have something you might like. I have to get it to you let me now how if you like. It goes with your fort sign.

I plan on BEING one of those grandparents! I don't have any grand babies yet ( and I'm not read!) but I can't wait to be the Disney connection for them! Loved your post!

Chi town, that is a beautiful tribute/story. Have to say that we also love Door County, and next to the Fort, that the Door always remains close to us. Here is wishing for a sooner than later, Fort Wilderness- Disney World visit. Here is also wishing for a less snowy winter for us Midwestern folks!
