I think Buffy and I have both mentioned the same fear - getting pulled off the course!I read that you have to keep a 16 min/mile pace. I have been assuming that you can run/walk as long as you keep that pace. I am hoping someone who has done one of these races can tell us for sure?? On the treadmill I run 6.0/6.5 and walk around 3.6. Then I do intervals of walking and then running for 1 minute at 7.0/7.5/8.0 until I get to at least 3.1 miles.
That is great to hear! Last night I started week 4, which I was VERY nervous about. It includes running 3 min and 5 min. It wasn't pretty but I DID IT!!!!
It's really encouraging to hear you say that adding minutes seems easier after getting to 5.

After my last post this one is going to be a bit strange, but I can't believe it! I just finished a 5K at our gym's track with DH. We did 5K in 35 minutes! All was going great until the last lap. DH challenged me to a final sprint. Now I am icing a pulled groin.Luckily it doesn't feel too bad. A day of rest should have it back to normal. I am so thrilled to be able to keep up that pace. It was so much easier to run on the track than on the treadmill. And running with DH was great too!

Well I think that is a fabulous time! I am no where near that speed yet!
Thanks! To be honest, I really surprised myself. I wasn't doing anything like that on the treadmill. I'm not sure if it was moving to a track or running with DH. But it seemed so much easier than running 4.8 mph on the treadmill. I was blown away that I averaged 5.3 mph. That was a run/walk. We did .2 miles walk and then .8 miles run the first mile. Then the next two miles alternated .5 run and .2 walk. And of course we ran the last .1 mile. That was when I pulled the groin. But it is feeling pretty good today. I just did a 30 minute walk to let it rest today. We'll see if that was a fluke this coming Sunday. We have decided to do this every Sunday to see if we can decrease the time. But I am not going to push it again.
I've pulled that muscle before and it HURTS! You wanna be real careful not to work it to hard so it doesn't get worse on you! I hate the injuries that come along with our intervals. So far, I've been pretty good & healthy. My intervals are getting longer as I'm trying to train for the 5K in September and October. Then moving on (i HOPE) to the half marathon in February 2012.![]()

I have no idea goldylox, I'm interested in knowing too.
My update:
I'm up to 2.25 miles with a walk/run on the treadmill. I can do it in about 38 minutes.
I did manage a one mile run/walk in 16:03 which is my best time yet but I don't think I can sustain that for 3 miles. But I'm getting better, I'm not as winded as usual. I finished up the dreaded week 3 on C25K and the last day was actually pretty good.
