Just signed up for Everest!

I am signing me and one of my best friends up for this this weekend!!! I just got back from the Princess Half and can't wait to go back!

We need a good name though - Both of our names begin with T; we both work in newspapers; she has been one of my best friends for more than 10 years; we live in two separate states; this is her first running event ever - Any ideas?!!

Also, has anyone booked rooms at the All Star Sports? Are they still available? AND how much are the discounted tickets for participants?

TIA!! So excited!

Just booked at the Sports 2 weeks ago & they still have availablity for $100 a night and a 5 day hopper is $235.00 if you are registered for Expedition Everest.
No advice on a team name, but if I think of something I'll let you know ;-)

OH my!!! DH and the other kidlets are going with us!!! :woohoo:
Now I need to step up my game! LOL

We are now driving down so we will probably stay at Swan and Dolphin, I need to go run numbers and plan.

I completed week 5, day 1 today! :cool1: I was soooo intimidated by an 8 min run. I kept thinking about what Eva said that for her things get better after the first 5 minutes, and I really think it did!! Yipee!!

I am so happy for you! And congrats on everyone's improvements! I haven't progressed as much as I like. I am still running the 5K between 35 and 40 minutes. It just depends on how I feel that particular day. And it is still a run-walk type of affair. But I am not worried. I will finish in a reasonable amount of time and that is good enough for me! But I do need to get more consistent with how often I run in a week. Right now I am averaging 2 times a week with other cardio (love stepping) and weight training mixed in. I think my problem is that I enjoy running on a track or outside and the weather just hasn't been very good. I am not a diehard runner who will run in all seasons.

So happy I found this thread! DBF signed both of us up as a team a few weeks ago for the EE 5K.
He's a big runner and this is something that he really wants to do, so I agreed to do it with him. I used to run avivdly, but after having foot surgery a few years ago, I stopped. So now I am doing the C25K program to get prepared for May!!!
I'm on Week 3 right now and am hoping to be finished with Week 8 by the race. I have decided my goal is to finish the race. I might not have the best time, but I just want the accomplishment of completing all 3.1 miles. :goodvibes

Welcome! Hope to see you at the race.

I'm in too! My DBF and I ran our first Half Marathon in January and then I ran in the ESPN 5k. I talked DBF into running with me again so we'll be heading down May 6-8! I'm so excited for a new spin on a race with the obstacles and scavenger hunt afterward!

Headed down in 2 weeks with DH for a conference. I'm going to hit AK one day while he's at work so I can scope out the course as much as I can. I'm so bad with directions I want to get it in my brain! LOL

Hi everyone!

I haven't been on here in sooo long. I have been out straight with a bit of a crisis at work that has had me working way too many hours and just life being busy.

I am bummed because due to the work situation, I didn't run for 3 weeks! I finally went back to the treadmill yesterday and it was kind of ugly, but I think I can build my stamina back up quickly. I still did the 5k walk/jog in under 40 min. I have also been playing soccer which is great for conditioning.

I got team tshirts made for DS and I. They are navy blue UnderArmour tech type shirts and say "Team Sluppino" on the front and each of us has our first name on the back ... look for us!!

I'm getting excited and am going to make training a priority for the next 3+ weeks!!

Just wondering ... can anyone who has done this before give us a rough idea of what the scavenger hunt questions are like? Will we be ok if we know the park pretty well? DS and I were talking about it this morning and laughing that we should 'study' but we really don't have any idea what to brush up on! TIA!

I haven't done this ruace before, but this is the sample question I received in a email from rundisney:

When choosing a password, it's important to pack light.
[] MATCHES
[] WATER
[] SLEEPING BAGS
[] TENT

They didn't include the answer in the email.

I got this in the email too. I wonder if this will really be the type of things we see? I thought the answers would lead you to another place in the park to get the next clue, but maybe not? I'm confused. :confused3

I saw on someone's event report from a previous everest (found via google) the questions seemed more find this icon and then the question was about something very near there- all (to me) were fairly obvious landmarks from around the park...

I'm still running consistent 11-12 minutes per mile while I'd love to get that down to 10 I won't complain (plus I found with my first 5k I shaved 1-2 min off my usual avg cause of the excitement of the event- so not too worried)

I realized today I need to find pants with zipper pockets or a zip belt to carry my "must have" items for the "challenge" piece as I dont want to chance loosing them if I'll be anything but straight vertical :)

Is it time yet?!?

Less than a month to go! I can't wait to be back at WDW and I'm excited to see the Flower and Garden Festival for the first time!

I've done every EEC so far. The first couple years the scavenger hunt was similar, although the riddles were MUCH HARDER to solve in the second year (in my opinion). The format was that we were given a "passport" with 4 images and riddles inside, each one corresponding to an area of the park. For example for Africa there was an image of a poster. You had to find the poster which would give a clue to answering the riddle. The riddle was something like look behind you to figure out whether it will be sunny or rain tomorrow. So I found the poster near Tusker House, then turned around and there was something that looked like a shower... maybe it was a mister? So I figured the answer was that it would rain. After answering all 4 riddles, you go to the finish where they told you how many you got right.

Last year after fnishing the 5k portion of the run, instead of a passport we were handed a card with a clue that told us where to go next. I can't remember exactly how much detail it gave, but I know I didn't have a hard time figuring out that I was supposed to go to Camp Minnie Mickey and go to a specific character trail. At that character trail was a cast member who would verify by looking at the card that I was at the right place, then he/she handed me a card for the next location. At the 4th location, I was given a card to go to the finish. When crossing the finish line, I had to show that I had that specific card, indicating that I had correctly gone to all 4 location checkpoints. I read a report from someone that they didn't know where to go so they just kept running up to random cast members until they found the right one to give them the next card. But as someone who loves Disney and has been to the parks at least once a year since 2008, I didn't have any problem with the clues last year.

I thought they were keeping the format of last year's event, but who knows!

So, was last years format a bit easier than the riddles of previous years? It seems like maybe it would be if you know the park fairly well? I took Disneyland_Emily's lead and googled and found a few trip reports that showed the passports and the clues and answers. It seems like in each case, the key thing is to know the park and how to get to the different areas. ??

We leave in 25 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banana:

I gotta say...the scavenger hunt has me worried. I'm the type of person who takes things wayyyyy too seriously, and I just know I will be over-analyzing the simple riddles. :lmao: Plus, AK is my least known theme park. I have only been there twice, and one of those trips was way back in '97!
Luckily my DBF/teammate is amazing with directions; I'm counting on him to remember where certain locations are from our December '10 trip. :thumbsup2

To help, I've been reviewing the park map and trying to memorize simple things, such as...Camp Minnie Mickey is to the left and Dinoland is to the right.

I can't believe the race is less than a month away!!!:yay:

I thought last year's was the easiest, and I agree that it is easier if you know the park slightly.

Are you able to spend some time at AK before the race? When I went in 2008, my previous visit before that was a whirlwind trip in 2002 doing all 4 parks in 2 days. Spending some time in AK helped me orient myself. You should also be able to pick up a park map to use during the scavenger hunt if needed. Don't stress too much, I'm sure you and your partner will do awesome together!

20 days left for me! The only thing I still need to do is buy my park ticket. I'm debating between 4 or 5 days... not sure if I want to go into the parks the first day or save that $$ for snacks like the amazing-looking cupcakes at Starring Rolls. :cool1:

Unfortunately, we won't be able to look around AK beforehand. We're not getting into Disney until the evening of the 6th, because one of my spring semester classes has a final the night of the 5th.
I still have my park map from December, though, so DBF and I have been studying it. He doesn't seem worried about the scavenger hunt at all, so I am sure it'll all work out. Even if we encounter some trouble, it'll give us something to laugh about.

I just bought my park tickets last Saturday. We decided we weren't going to go into the parks until after the race. We are going to use the race day to rest, visit DTD for a bit, etc.
I hope you were able to decide between the number of days. An extra park day is great....but so is Starring Rolls cupcakes! :lmao:

18 days until race day!!! I can't believe EE is almost here!
Quick question...has anyone found where (or been sent) their race waivers. I know we need to have them signed by packet pickup, but I have not seen where to download them or received them in any letter yet. I'm starting to get a little worried.

Hi everyone!

My DS, 11, and I will be running as a team. This will be our first running event - I told him that if we didn't finish dead last, we win ;)

I was doing pretty well with the training, but the last 3 weeks have been pretty bad due to work and family schedules. I really need to get my butt running and quick.

I was hoping that this would be the starting point so that I could start training for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon in September. I really need to find some inspiration. :rolleyes1

I registered my DH and I for his 50th birthday gift. I'm not sure whether he was going to kiss or kick me. I've done several Disney events with my friends, however the EEC will be my DH first event ... ever.

Since we registered, we have close friends who have also signed up! We're so excited to spend this time at Disney with our friends for the EEC, Flower and Garden Show and new memories!

Good times await!

I can't believe how close we are!!!!!!!

DS has a sore foot ... it HAS to get better soon. When we ran together last Thursday we only made it 2 miles. I need some pixie dust!! :wizard:
