Just signed up for Everest!

I can't believe how close we are!!!!!!!

DS has a sore foot ... it HAS to get better soon. When we ran together last Thursday we only made it 2 miles. I need some pixie dust!! :wizard:

Sending pixie dust your way!pixiedust: Hope his foot gets better soon!!

I can't believe how soon the race will be here! This 5K has snuck up on me, and I am hoping I can last all 3.2 miles!

Thanks!! :goodvibes He said it feels better tonight - we are going to run again on Wednesday and we'll see how it goes. We're definitely still doing a walk/run ... probabyl 1/3 walk and 2/3 run. But we're beating the 16min/mile pace by quite a bit, so we're good!!

One of my best friends from the disney college program and myself are doing the challenge!!! We're super excited and cannot wait! :D

Well, how did everyone do? Did you have a great time? We really enjoyed the run. DH and I were in wave 3 and finished the race in less than 34 minutes. But one of our clues for the hunt was awful. We had a terrible time with the hunt. It took us over 40 minutes! Did anyone stay for the party. It seemed a bit lame to us. We rode Dinosaur and then headed back to the room. Hope we didn't miss anything.

Hi! My teammate and I were also in wave 3 (Shout out to all fellow wave 3 group). We finished the whole thing at 1:05:23. I was pleased as this was our first 5k in Disney and we did not know what to expect for the obstacle course.

What I liked:

1) I really liked running at night. It makes the race different and fun.
2) Loved the obstacle aspect.
3) Fireworks were a nice touch. Got me excited to run.
4) I like the Disney staff cheering us alone. Give me the added energy boost that I needed, especial during the last mile.

What I did not:

1) It seemed that in the beginning where they were getting everyone into their wave group was very unorganized.
2) I was not sure when the 5k ended and the scavenger hunt began. I saw the clock as what I know now was the 5k end but I wished there was a sign saying 5k end.
3) They never really checked our last answer to the clues. All we got was did you answer it? Good then go? Ok….
4) I wished I knew that they were taking photos prior to the race starting. I would have gotten to the race much earlier then we did to avoid that long lines. As it were we missed out on the opportunity. 

Over all I would defiantly do it again. I might head down and do the 5k for the Wind and Dine event. I don’t know if I will ever do a half marathon. So, for now I will stick to 5ks.

Though I am curious. I know the course was a little different from last year. My teammate had a Garmin and it stated we only ran 2.9 miles for the 5k part. Did anyone have that issue?

Sounds like we had a very similar experience!!! :)

We were also in Wave 3. We took about 1hr 10 min. The 'getting into waves' seemed very disorganized. We didn't know when to try to get in to our area. We finally figured it out and had to squeeze our way in to our wave. DS and I were also confused about when the run ended. I said, 'there is the clock, that must be the end' but he didn't see it and was convinced we had to keep running. We ALSO had no one check our final answer. We had it and they were saying if you have it move along and we did and kept expecting someone to check but they just handed us our medal. :confused3

The clues were sort of weird too. For us, 3 were really easy and 2 didn't make a whole lot of sense. We ended up solving them after getting one hint, but even after knowing the answer, we looked at them and thought 'I don't think I would have gotten this from that'. I had also thought that since we know the park really well it would be an advantage, but it totally didn't matter - cast members were just telling people where to go. :)

We had a GREAT time. We really, really had fun at the race and just had a wonderful weekend away, just the two of us. I'd LOVE to do this again. :goodvibes

Oh and Eva - We didn't stay too long for the party either. We got our bag and went to Restaurantasaurus for a bite to eat (DS16 was really hungry). Then we went on Kali - which was a BIG mistake! I actually hate that ride, because I HATE being in wey clothes - just one of my 'things' - but I thought since we were sweaty and so forth maybe it would be fun. Ugh - I was in the seat that goes down backwards and got soaked!! By then it was getting cool, so the soaking wet clothes in the night air was not fun. Lol. We went on Everest after that and then made our way out. It was about 11:30 and we were pretty beat.

We stayed at the AKL? Anyone else? We loved it there!!!!

DS and I were also in Wave 3 which I was thrilled about. I was so worried that we would be in the back.
Hay bales we annoying, I tried stepping on them but they were soft so I hurdled the last group.
About 1/2 way I was getting a pretty bad stitch in my side so we slowed down a little.
Walked the tires, I was not going to fall!!!
About mile 2 I wanted to quit. But then I saw my new friend Heather who was in wave 1, she was headed in the opposite direction headed back into the park from the service road. She said it wasn't much further til we turned back, so that really motivated me!
Something else that motivated me was the fact that as we ran across to bridge in Asia towards the front of the park, I saw runners still coming over the bridge to Africa. I was certain I was going to be swept so that really helped spur me on.
Mile 3 was actually the easiest. I was slow, I jogged because if I walked my shins burned but walkers were passing me. But I managed to slow my mind down and the next thing I knew we saw flashing lights, we were back in the parking lot!!!
Cargo nets, UGH: I had thought about skipping it but I decided that I did the other ones so I was doing this one too. It was tough but I got through it and DS was waiting right there for me.
Clue one was so easy we got it right away. The problem was figuring out where to go. We went passed the oasis so we had to back track. It was kind of chaotic but we got our second clue.
The second clue was sooooo stupid and hard!! People were getting angry and fast. We found help, solved it and ran to Camp Minnie Mickey for the 3rd clue. This is where I got ticked! People were so confused that the man that was supposed to hand out the 3rd clue didn't because he was to busy helping other people solve the clue. I got a little snippy and it got his attention. Not my finest moment I tell you.
As soon as I handed DS the clue he got it, it was stretched letters.
Off to Harambe for the fourth clue. Again, solved it right away so we booked it to Asia for the last clue. It turned out to be a combination of the first 4 clues, solved it really easily. We booked it to the finish line which was right before the Everest Fast passes. They asked us the answer to the final clue which I shouted as we ran to the finish line.
We made it!!! The clock said something like 1:34: and change. Which means we ran it all in something like 1:24. We got our medals, which are awesome!!!!! Picked up powerade, which is nasty!!!! Bananas and water.
I called hubby, texted BFF and rested.
We went over to Restaurantosaurus to get our bag, found Heather again. Rode Dinosaur (didn't care for it), said good bye to Heather, rode Everest twice, then headed back to the room. We were exhausted and hurting.

so stats:
We placed 617 out of 785 for the co-ed teams
Race time - 46:24; hunt time - 38:04; total time - 1:24:28

I would do it again, but I think they need to redesign the gathering of clues. It was crazy!! Clue 2 burned probably 15 minutes. Knowing the park really well had it's advantages, a lot of people got turned around if they didn't know where they were going.

Wasn't crazy about the party. It was just ok. We did 2 rides but were so beat from spending the day at MGM that we cut out and went back to the room.

I was sorely disappointed in All Star Sports, to the point that I asked for a transfer to AKL. We were stuck right by the pool in the baseball section and the first night I was woken up 3 times by screaming kids. They should have had us in a far off building like the tennis rooms, away from the crowds.

We are planning on doing the Wine and Dine 5K with the kids. It looks like they've moved that one over to AK as well. Wish it were at Epcot but it's ok. And it looks like it's a morning race.

My cousin and I ran and had an absolute blast. we did have a few issues with the race but would do it again in a heart beat.
We were in wave 6 and our biggest issue was getting around walkers. this slowed us down in the 5k portion of the race a bit. We finished in about 31 minutes.
As for the scavenger hunt piece our only issue was finding the check in point for the 1st clue. we were coming in at the same time as the guest for the party. we went into the park at Oasis and ran around it to realize the clues were outside the enterance and not where we would have though they would have been. we ended up finishing the whole thing in 1:03:38 sec. after we lost about 5 to 8 minutes running in cirlce. after clue one we flew. We finished 73 our 430 female teams!!
We had a good time at the after party but it wasn't great. we had about six people we were hanging round with and rode everest around 4 times and did some other rides. We just had fun hanging with our friends and being goofy.

Buffy - So sorry you had a bad resort experience. Did you end up moving to AKL? The resort ending up being a highlight of our trip. We had standard view but totally lucked out that our room was actually on the end edge of one of the Savannahs and we had animals off our balcoy the whole time. It was so great!!!

We did end up moving, and it was lovely. DH says I'm spoiled. LOL

We had a savannah view room right in the main level. So we just had a small walk to the lobby. It was great! AKL is DS14's favorite hotel too so I know he wouldn't complain about the move. LOL
