Just Scored GREAT Southwest Airlines Fare!

Happy for you! I really love SW, but every time they offer sale fares, Rochester NY is excluded. I can’t figure out why!

We’re cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale in September and as of right now, JetBlue has SW beat, even with the baggage fees.

Thanks! I was completely shocked! We typically have the same issue. Dallas to MCO is usually still not "on sale" enough for us. We were looking at an 18 hour drive, so we're so happy. Enjoy your cruise! We leave for our first ever cruise in 3 weeks out of Galveston, TX.

Congrats! I'm jealous....

I've been stalking ours like crazy for our June trip and no luck. Normally I book well before now but DH has a conference during this trip so I was delayed a little bit till work confirmed he would definitely be able to go. As it is, we may have to fly into Tampa and Uber back to Disney because of our high the airfare currently is from Louisville to MCO.

:yay:Thanks for posting, I just checked and was able to get some of my points back because our airfare for next month dropped!

You should try buffalo. Consistently worth the drive and parking.

Thanks for the input! I do usually check Buffalo as well, because you're right, if the price is right I will make the drive! It's just this one trip to FLL that doesn't seem to be working in our favor with SW. Still my 1st choice airline, but gotta go with JetBlue right now.

Thanks for the post OP but my fare actually went up. SWA is no longer my carrier of choice from Philadelphia. I can usually get better fares on American even with the baggage fees. I love SWA but sometimes my flight on American will be as much as $100 cheaper even with the fees.

Have you tried out of Cinci? I'm assuming you mean Louisville, KY here, but I grew up there and often the hour drive to Cinci would save us $100 - $150 per person round trip.

SW to any of the airports in or near PA seems to be terrible pricewise. I don't understand why. This trip I'm on now (CA to PA) I ended up flying into Newark and driving, but still not loving the price. I couldn't figure out how to book on the other airlines (disabled and large) so I stuck with SW.

We fly out of PHL with SW often. I usually do OK, even if my starting airfare is higher than I would like, I check multiple, multiple times a day and almost always end up with a deal. As always flying T/W/TH, is your best bet but I have done well on other days. We got the first nonstop flight tomorrow out of PHL for a little over 4000 points and the last nonstop Monday night out of MCO for maybe 5500 points, roughly? I started out with each airfare tickets at 12,000 each way.
Disappointed in how few nonstops they have now out of PHL. If the going gets really tough we have flown out of BWI.

I pretty much only fly SW and check the fares just about every day for upcoming flights. There will be random price reductions that only last a day or two and then it shoots back up. I fly out of Dallas, but have seen it to Orlando, Las Vegas, Houston, New York, etc. Love how SW lets us change the fare out for no additional cost and gives points back.

I know, right? We're cruising out of FLL in October and SW is usually our go-to but we just can't get there on SW for a reasonable fare. Plus they offer very few non-stops from Denver to FLL and we do not want to waste vacation time changing planes when we don't have to. I knew that DIA-FLL was not cheap because my son is going to Sea Base with Boy Scouts in June. I was really surprised with how much the SW fare was; luckily we had points to spend so we booked him to match the troop's itinerary but did not have to pay them for the SW group airfare! For the October trip we ended up going with American, non-stop to Miami for $144 each way. We were going to fly in early and rent a car anyway, so no biggie with being 30 minutes south. We'll have to pay baggage fees, but we still come out way ahead on both money and time. I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but yes, SW fares seem to be creeping up and up!

Yep, but unfortunately Cincy is currently even more than Louisville (for SW). And SW out of Cincy isn't direct, and sometimes there are direct ones out of Louisville so I keep crossing my fingers. I keep asking DH to consider Nashville or Columbus as the SW prices are much cheaper, but that turns into a 3.5-4 hour drive for us and he's not interested. I lean to SW because 1) I tend to pack too much and love that baggage is included but 2) we have 63,000 points with SW also.

Gottcha. I would also try Indy. They do have direct flights to Orlando. But that's just me. I have about the same in points with SW so I try and stay with them too, but I'm in Pittsburgh these days which limits me to looking at Cleveland or Columbus which are about 3 hours away if I don't want to fly out of Pitt.

Good Luck!

The fares have creeped up because they’ve been handing out their credit card and companion pass like candy. Somebody has to pay for all of these “free flights”.
The fares from Philly are sky high of late. Luckily, I have several airports to choose from including EWR, TTN, ACY and BWI. We have several fares booked with American and JetBlue. I also check frontier and spirit as well.

SW into Tampa from Louisville isn't bad. We just did that from the Lexington area and saved nearly $700 over flight costs if we flew SW from Louisville to Orlando. We've done Delta from Cincy several times, but those flights were also high into Orlando this time.

Car rental was only in the $60s total for 3 days from Tampa. On the flip side, Tampa airport used to be super easy to navigate and is now much more difficult with construction completed and a lack of signage everywhere.

I think the days of affordable flights from Louisville to Orlando are dwindling away.
