They could also just stagger the times. Dream could disembark at the normal time (7:30am) and then move out to allow the Fantasy to disembark later in the morning or early afternoon.

I read the Fantasy is due in to PC at 2pm Thursday. I assume the Dream would be early morning, since they're almost there now.

If they're just going to scurry back to sea to avoid the storm, they don't have to do a full turnover. They need crew supplies and fuel, but can do the room cleaning at sea.

Not sure if this will apply, but I always buy third party insurance, and once when I changed a cruise date I was able to change the insurance coverage from the old cruise to the new one I switched to. Had to provide documentation from Disney that the reservation was changed, but it wasn't too difficult.

Seems like I can change the departure date online - i wonder if i can put a future date based on sailing I will choose. Or if I should wait till tomorrow to possibly talk to Disney about the future booking, I mean if they say call after September 18 I guess will have to be more than likely a cruise date in October.

Since they specify you need to make the future reservation to get the 25% discount between Sep 18 and Oct 18, I'd hazard a guess calling before then will not get you the discount.

Please do try to abide by the September 18 date before calling. I am sure they are absolutely inundated by calls right now. They aren't going to have any more information than what is already out.

Got a friend down there who said they are closing port Canaveral and most other ports expecting the worst. Necessary maritime traffic only, cruises don't qualify.

This would explain why they are turning the current cruises back to port asap.

Disney needs to make a decision, I'd bet they hunker down in PC. It's a safe port that's handled other storms without an issue.

Either that or they need to dump the passengers and go float in calm waters until it passes.

There are 4 cruise terminals at Port Canaveral. When there has been more than one DCL ship in port at the same time one was at the DCL terminal while the other used one of the other terminals. You can see the locations on the Port Canaveral website. One is next to the DCL terminal, a second across the turning basin from the DCL terminal and the third along the ship channel. (I watch the PTztv web cams way too often.) There is a 'map' of the port on the same page as the webcam.
I think that the ships will be safer out to sea in a calmer area. I am no expert but that seems the best scenario. In 2004 Port Canaveral was closed for several weeks because it was inaccessible due to silting in teh ship channel from the storms. They had to do some dredging before it was reopened.

They likely couldn't. The port generally would not allow them to stay.

Definite kudos to Disney for making the smart and safe decision here.

I just checked RCCL's page out of curiosity - and while they've cancelled a couple, there are some that look really questionable to me that they have in the "still on" column. You'd think after the Liberty debacle they'd be more proactive.

Off topic...but what happened with the Liberty? (Sorry for ignorance!)

Typically the cost of buying insurance is not refunded. Disney does not have their "own" insurance. The insure through some other company - maybe Allianz?

I think it was through Allianz at one point, but apparently now it's Arch Insurance Company.

My cruise just got canceled - unfortunate but safety is first.

My biggest concern right now is will the travel insurance be refunded. I bought travel insurance using this agent and I thought it was the Disney insurance but it is some Allianz insurance program. My concern is how is that money refunded?

Usually they don't actually refund it, but as others have said, you should be able to re-use it for a new cruise. You'd want to call Allianz (or the TA who sold it to you) as soon as possible to tell them what's going on, because normally, you can't re-use a policy after the date of your cruise. But I would imagine under these circumstances, since you can't re-book until after the date your cruise would have been, they'll take that into account. They'll need proof that the cruise was cancelled (and eventually re-booked) which you or your TA can get from DCL.

Off topic...but what happened with the Liberty? (Sorry for ignorance!)

It was just how the whole thing was handled.

Carnival had already started giving cruisers on their three ships out of Galveston the option to change their cruise (possibly even cancel for a credit - I don't totally remember) that was slated to happen during Harvey - and they even kept one overnight in Cozumel.

But RCCL has this staff meteorologist (surprised the guy still has a job honestly) who kept insisting that there was a "window" where they could get the Liberty into port. A port which had been closed and was not going to reopen for one ship in the middle of a hurricane. And so they were insisting that they WOULD sail on Sunday (later changed to Monday) and if you were not on board for your reservation, too bad so sad. No refund for you unless you could show proof of a cancelled flight or closed road - then proceeded to say that a picture of a person's car in rising waters was not proof enough (that social media person should be fired no questions asked - the FB posts were absurd). FINALLY at 3pm on Sunday they cancelled the cruise (something I believe Carnival did earlier as well).

It was kind of textbook on how NOT to react in a situation like that.

No way would they want to put guests in potential danger.

They will watch and make their route according to their best guesses from the storm's track, speed, and what the signs point to when the ships leave PC and keep them as safe as possible, but you cannot 100% predict these storms. The last thing they want is a ship full of cruisers stuck at sea in the middle of this thing in case Irma does something unexpected. Especially after the Fantasy got caught in Sandy when that storm blew up faster than anticipated.

I'm glad Disney decided to go this route, I know it sucks to loose your vacation (we all wait passionately for them). But safe rather than sorry.
I'm in Ft Lauderdale and I usually don't get panicked about the storms, but this one has me on the edge of my seat.

Ultimately, this cancellation was for the best. I am positive that the crews will be safe and that we will sail as planned later this month.
Now we just have to send prayers and good thoughts to those people in the path of this hurricane.

It was going to be really hard for us to leave on Friday knowing that we would be coming back to shore to see major devastation around our home in Orlando. Not sure if we could have left or not so the cancellation made the decision for us.

Yes, we are in Orlando too. Still so many ways this could go, but I understand Disney is being pro active and covering their bases for all possibilities.
