a smilie might be in order there Joe.....I think the fireman one would fit best at this point.

Maybe, but why should they still rule when they are dead?:(

That fall, he passed away suddenly. When she arrived at OKW, it hurt her greatly to have them ask if "Tom" was there. BTW, it also took a lot of trouble to get his name removed from the contract.
So sorry to hear this Diane and I can imagine how difficult this must have been for your friend. I can see how it could be a very sensitive issue.

Personally, it doesn't really bother me to have the reservations come in EITHER name, but in her case, it was definitely a problem, and most especialy since she had gone through a great deal of hassle to have his name removed from the contract following his death.

I have the same last name as my husband. All reservations and correspondance comes in MY name (yes, the woman).

I guess because it is listed first on the contract.

I wonder if my husband would stroke out if he made a reservation for himself and a few buds and my name was on it :confused3 ? Somehow, I doubt it.

I'm happy to see you young women who acknowledge there is still sex discrimination going on in the USA abd lo and behold in Disney World. Everything is much, much better than when I was younger, I'm 58 now, but it is not fixed. Something like mail may seem silly to you guys but it really should be changed. There is no reason for it to be this way. It really makes no sense, and as I said before, Disney won't change my contract to reflect my name as the mail recipient.
Here's a story that will show you how things have changed. When I was having my first baby my husband dropped me off in the hospital. The nurses told him it would be awhile and for him to go and have something to eat. Soon they discovered my baby was breech. Now get this,... I had to wait to have a C section performed until my husband arrived to sign the permission slip. I couldn't even sign it myself. I was on a guerny from 9 AM until 4 PM waiting, for my then husband, to show up. I still remember how very uncomfortable I was. While I was lying there my ex-husband, a truck driver, did his favorite thing, and went truck shopping! Everyone was looking for him and he's out shopping. Do you know when he finally showed up he was laughing! I wonder how he would have liked to be in the same situation??

I know you all know the stories about working next to men. In those days women sat next to men who couldn't do their jobs but who made more money than us to support their families. Many men at that time were actually furious with me for taking a man's job and pulling the food out of the mouth's of their starving children. Give me a break, nobody starved, things changed and men had better not scream at me now.

Sorry I went on so long. I am obviously biased in this discussion but I can not understand why the men who are posting don't get this. Do they want their wives and daughters to have a hard time? NO, so start thinking a little bit like a woman and realize everything isn't so cut an dry and that there are shades of gray too. This poster was not at fault---at fault was this crazy system Disney has. And I also agree it used to be who ever made the reservation had the mail addressed to them. Doesn't that make sense??

I just bought at DVC and since I am newly divorced, I wanted to put my daughter's name with me on the title. (Over 21).

I am owner, she is co-owner.
The first couple of mailings I got from Disney, including our memberships cards, came to my daughter who has a name that could easily be a male or female name.. My name is definitely female...so they managed to 'pick' the more male sounding name of the two listed on the contract.

Lately, everything has been coming to me. I'm the only one who has ever contacted MS, made ressies etc. My name was on the check to pay for DVC.
Mainly, I'm posting because I think whoever said mail was sent to the first listed owner isn't correct, at least in my case.

Perhaps the transfer of ownership form should have a separate space for mail should be addressed to:_____________.

As noted above (Diane's friend), problems occur if there is a death, a divorce, a separation. And certainly OP would have had a major problem trying to check had she not seen the error.

As to whether or not this is a big deal.....To Dave and any other negative posting people.....who are you to judge whether or not it should be a big deal to the OP? There is a big difference between having a different opinion of an 'issue' and posting the merits of your opinion as opposed to posting just to dis someone for their post. If you don't have empathy for a specific situation, that's ok...but just move on , get over yourself.

SO, OP, hope you don't feel defensive that it bothers you. I can see why it would . If you were a man and mail always came to your wife, I would still understand. It's a legitimate complaint whether or not it bothers me specifically. Hope you can get it straightened out!

They send correspondence to the primary owner, the one who is listed first. This is done based on the first one listed on the deed I believe. It's not a man woman thing from DVC's standpoint. My current contracts have my wife listed as primary.

Personally I think it is a new change...or it depends on who takes the ressie at MS....For 6 years I have been making reservations...all of our confirmations have been coming addressed to me. The last reservation I made for our trip in March 2006 they addressed the confirmations in my DH's name (which I noticed as soon as I picked it up). But later in the week I called back to recieve a print out of our 3 contracts activity...well that came addressed to me....

So, I don't believe it is strictly who's name is first on the contract. Which my DH's name is...

But someone decides who is listed first on the deed. And despite filling out every piece of paperwork with my name first, all our DVC mail comes addressed to my husband. It may not be systemic to DVC (I don't believe it is, I believe its a few individuals - it may be whomever does the recording or closing) but someone flipped our names around. And its happened often enough (and I've been told outright that "the man's name comes first, its tradition), that I don't believe it to be chance. It may be "tradition" or "culture" - but when it happens it is sexist.

icy-dog, I'm 20 years younger than you. I worked for one man who wouldn't hire a bad looking secretary because "I wouldn't want people to think I would sleep with that." I worked for another who admitted he wouldn't promote women into management because "they have babies and leave anyway." I went to a job interview and was told "don't worry about impressing us, you are only here because HR told us we needed to interview a girl." All of this has been in the past fifteen years.

To JCODESPOTI are you an A-- naturally or do you have to work hard at it on a daily basis??? :rotfl2:

To you Muushka...I'm not as you so kindly put it going to "STROKE OUT" about it, I clearly stated I was venting. I would however like to know that the room that I reserved is available to me without problems when I get there....call me CRAZY!

MiaSRN62, crisi, dianeschlicht, ColoradoBelle1 and icydog....THANKS for your support and for GETTING this ALL OF IT!!!! I just needed to vent! Here's a GREAT BIG GIRL GROUP HUG for all of you! :grouphug:

How did this turn into a man versus woman issue????

What about all the women who posted that didn't think this was much of an issue?

My name is first on our contracts, I make the reservations, and they routinely come in my wifes name. I have never considered this some type of female conspiracy, maybe I should revisit the issue. Nah.....

It's only sexist if one is looking for it. Now if I could only get my wife to pay the maint fee with HER money. You know the drill, we have our money and her money, LOL.

Sorry, but I just came across this thread now. I have to admit although I did not read every post,, I did read many.

I just wanted to say correspondence is one thing and I understand as many have said that they probably just use the first name written on the deed, etc. However, the op was first referrring to a reservation for a trip that her husband is not even going on. It does seem silly that they would not have the op's name on that reservation since she made it and it is for her and a friend. I, too, would be frustated with that and it has nothing to do with his name or my name, it would have to do with the fact that at check in his name would be on the reservation and he would not even be there and in my opinion it should have my name on it. Make sense??

I do hope they adjust your reservation and you and your friend have a great trip!! :sunny:

How dare they not put your husband's name on the correspondence! This is an outrage! Who wears that pants in this country any way? :)

Seriously, is your name 1st on all the paperwork?

Y-ASK

I have no idea whose name is first. But I am willing to bet it is his. Maybe they just know who is making the payments. ;) And that is NOT my DH even if he does wear pants more often than I do. :teeth:

I made a special point of listing my name first on the contract and the correspondance is sent addressed to DH...

Hmmm. Now this is interesting....

On the purchase Agreement, my name is listed as the "Principal Contact"

("Principal Contact" is explained in paragraph 8 of my purchase agreement) which says, "By execution of this Agreement, Purchaser hereby appoints the person set forth above as Purchaser's Principal Contact for the purpose of acting on behalf of the PURCHASER in case there is any disagreement among multiple PURCHASERS regarding the use of an Ownership Interest, and PURCHASER acknowledges that PURCHASER may be required to pay an administrative fee not to exceed $25.00 to change the designation of the Principal Contact."

I can't see how Disney can just change this on a whim, it seems to me that it must be directed by the purchaser. If one spouse is the Principal Contact and the other spouse is being sent the correspondance, then it seems like Disney would be in default on their part of the agreement..... Maybe I should call Member Services in the morning to get this straightened out. :teeth:

Regarding the death issue - when my husband passed away I did have DVC Accounting remove his name from the DVC paperwork, via an original death certificate. My late husband's name remains on the deed, however, since the State of Florida does require an attorney file the required proof and paperwork to have the deceased removed. Member Accounting can provide a list of FL attorneys who are able to assist. I see no need to pay the several hundred dollars at this point to have that done, but will have it taken care of prior to selling or turning the contracts over to my children, which is my eventual intention, after they graduate from school.
