Just need to vent!!

I'm another die hard Disney world fan from Pittsburgh and I agree with everything on this thread! A lot of people I know go tobthe beach (usually Myrtle or outerbanks) or they go outdoorsy. I'm glad that they found their thing but Disney is mine - just leave me alone! Usually I do say somehing about how if they ever do decide to go to let me know bc I can help they get discounts and whatnot but even that annoys me bc why should I justify my expenses to anyone. I don't have granite counter tops or an iPhone - I choose Disney instead!

My family is so happy there. I am completely relaxed there. I'm distracted enough that I don't think about work (makes my fam happy!). I can drink wine and have desert every night and not gain weight bc of all the walking.

But all that aside - I pretty much don't talk about it and people just leave me alone now. It's not worth the discussion anymore. And then I come here and feel better.

I've never understood this rationale. Why have 1st birthday parties for babies or give them Christmas gifts (for those who celebrate)? Is the remembering the only thing that's worthwhile - doesn't the actual experiencing count for something?

I totally agree! :lmao: By that same logic, no one should do anything nice or fun for a child until they are...what...four...five, maybe? Please! I'm taking my three year old within the year and do I think he'll "remember" it? No. He may have some foggy memories of his first trip. His parents will surely never forget it, though. My husband and I went this past February and were instantly convinced that we needed to come back with our son and as quickly as possible! Our upcoming trip will be different than the trips we will take when our son is older, but I think that's something else people miss...your experiences there change each and every time!

My kids may not remember WDW when they are 20, but they will remember the trip for several years. I know that DD7 and DD5 will remember it for a long time. The younger ones remember our trip from last year and ask to go back almost everyday. So, sure they may forget over time, but I think it takes awhile, and like the PP said, DH and I will have these memories forever.

Thank you for saying it out loud :thumbsup2 I've quit talking about our upcoming vacations with anyone except my family. I'm tired of people looking at me like I'm an alien. Just yesterday a co-worker said, "so how many times have you been to Disney this year? and since you go so often, don't you get sick of it?" My response, none yet, I'm going this Fall and there's no replacing the memories I'm making with my child, and even when she is grown I will still go because I love it and we have made all these memories there. It's like going home.

I feel the same way. I have been going to WDW almost every year since my 21 year old son was 6 months old. I get the "why don't you go to Europe or Vegas, etc...." all the time too but I am all about "familiar" and that is what Disney is to me. It is safe, clean and a great place to just have fun!

This was my first trip with my family (a 4 yo and a 21 mth old). From the moment i booked the trip everyone i encountered made comments about how they were too young and they wouldn't remember it and so on....which i ignored for the most part.I was just glad to have the family time together to make some memories.Fast forward to our wonderful family vacation that i will never forget in my life due to the great time had by all.My son, who has anaphylactic food allergies has been a handful pretty much since birth in regards to sleeping, food issues and the like.He was an absolute angel at disney and had so much fun there.I almost cried the night before coming home because i had never seen him so happy and carefree before and hated to leave. We will be going back next year and maybe even the year after that so i get every comment here and quite frankly if anyone says anything to me it won't bother me in the least as i know it's our special time together and nothing else matters!

I've been going to Disney World since the early '70s. A gent I worked with, some years ago, used to pull the "But you go there EVERY year. You need to try something different, see something of the world." I grew up in the Army, I've seen quite a lot of the world, thanks. It's fascinating and there are wondrous sights to behold. However, based on available time and finances, Disney World is my preferred option. It never fails to delight, enchant, and exceed my expectations. During the rough times, it was the way I was able to catch my breath and rediscover pixie dust. During the good times, Disney World enhanced the happiness factor. I know the quality and magic will always be readily available...not the same way every time but dependable. I know I'll never feel that I've wasted time or money by going there.

Oh, and the gent who was soooo critical? He goes to Las Vegas four times a year and always stays at the same hotel.

I read a statement here on the Disboards which I refer to quite often when I get the why are you going again question. It goes like this:

"For those that get Disney, no explanation neccessary.

For those that don't get Disney, no explanation possible"

Say that, smile, and walk away. Works everytime. :goodvibes
