Just need to vent!!

I am so tired of having to explain myself to people as to why I vacation in Disney every year. I have been bombarded with questions like, Why do go to Disney every year? Isn't it hot in the summer? Isn't is crowded? Isn't it expensive? Don't you get bored? It is soooo irritating. No. 1. I go because my family loves it, we have a great time, they provided great service and their parks are really clean, cast members are usually very friendly. No. 2. Yes its hot in the summer in Florida, it is also hot in the summer at the beach, its hot here in Pittsburgh, who cares, I'm on vacation!! No. 3. Yes its crowded and we schedule our day accordingly, beaches are crowded too. No. 4. The price of a trip to Disney isn't anymore expensive than renting a beach house for a week, I have more fun in Disney than a beach. No. 5. And most important, NO, I could Never get bored with Disney!

How many people vacation at the same beach every summer? A lot, does anyone ever say, Why do you go to the beach every year, Isn't it hot there? etc, etc, etc!!

I have pretty much had it with talking about my vacation cause I'm tired of trying to explain myself! I will just continue to come here to my happy place where I am surrounded with people who share my love for my favorite place on earth

Ahhh the haters - Non believers - Best to get it out (the vent) and forget.

We too get the same thing from co-workers and freinds - "again why?"

WHY WHY WHY (Like 2 year olds) - Our family - Our time - Our money - Our way... That's why.

Sure we did Ocean City Maryland for a week and had a blast...However WDW came up several times and while on that vacation we booked our DCL and two day at SSR which made it better.

Let them "hate" or ask "why". Throw them for a loop ask them "why" they're going where their going?

I honestly think that Disney gives you great bang for the buck, especially as nearly everything has gotten super expensive, from admission to a zoo or an aquarium to mini-golf! Take for example our Mother's Day disaster. My very well-intentioned mother got tickets to take our three year old son to ride Thomas the Train. Each ticket was twenty bucks, so all told, she paid about one hundred dollars for us to ride a train for fifteen minutes! True story. Another one is how much it costs to go to your average county fair!

TOTALLY agree with this sentiment. I think Disney is an AWESOME deal when you compare to the local fairs. Firstly the fair grounds are always filthy...and unkept..AND hubby and I paid 20$ FOR ONE RIDE on the merry go round for our family of 4. I mean break down the number of rides you can go on at disney and the entrance ticket price is wildly reasonable.

Love disney..and for all those folks that think the town fairs are the bomb...they can have at it...ill be at disney.

We went to Gatlinburg, TN and spent more there in one week than at Disney. I think that with people who have never been, they expect it more expensive than what it is.

My friends will say, "Madelyn wants to go again"? I say, "No, I do". They normally don't say much after that. My friends go to the beach during the 4th of July week and I go on vaca to Disney during the off season.

I hear ya, as a childless couple clinging to their 30's, LOTS of folks don't get it. Most folks who know me well, don't even have to ask where we are going at this point though. We went to AZ this spring for something different. Had a great trip, and saw some great stuff, but nothing FEELS like a Disney vacation. Going back to WDW in September! As many have said in this thread, there are just folks who don't get it and never will so it is pointless to waste your breath on them. I also like the "we went, stayed offsite, and went to the parks for 3 days, and it was okay" folks. That is like me comparing someone's nice beach house vacation with " I went to "X" beach, we stayed 4 nights at the airport Hampton Inn, and drove to the beach a few times and it was okay". Just because you went to Disney World, doesn't mean you have any idea what my Disney Vacation is like and why it never gets old!

I just don't understand why people CARE how others spend their vacation!

I guess I'm lucky - most of the people around me are pretty cool with it (or if they aren't, they keep it to themselves, as they should!). In fact, right now my WHOLE OFFICE is on pins and needles because they all know I'm surprising my son with a trip on Wednesday! I had to coach them all not to say anything about Disney as my son is in the office a fair amount, so they all feel like they're in on it.

So true. I don't know why people feel the need to judge others just because they vacation at the same spot every year. I have a friend that vacations at Long Beach Island, New Jersey every year. That's her thing. When I tell my friends I'm going to Disney again, usually they go, "Omg I hate you! Can I go too?"

Actually, two of my friends decided that they were going to go to Disney this year too, and join us!

Ah...but I think maybe the folks who return to the same lake or beach year after year get some flack too. We just aren't receiving end of the flack they get.

WDW is not the only place I've been on vacation, but it's a great value. The folks who go tothe same beach, go partly because it's a no-brainer. They know where they like to eat, shop, sleep. For us, WDW is a no brainer. WE know our way around without having to rethink. When we go someplace we've never been before, we have to learn the layout and such. It can be fun to do, but sometimes you get stiffed paying $20 for a 15min Thomas Train ride, too.

One reason I like to return to certain spots is often because I get a craving for a certain food. One precious beauty of America is it's regional food. (and beyond America too!) Most every region has something unique to offer.

So sometimes when I'm asked to explain about returning to WDW, I simply tell folks, "Yeah, I need a Mickey bar!" Lots of folks can relate to the idea of craving a certain food.

When you go, what do you like to do?

I think those who object or question the trip, or the expense, think of spending 90% of their time in lines for 3 min rides.

I think of great service, no worries, good food, differently themed hotels, and relaxation.

I was just talking to my brother about this yesterday. We've only gone once as a family two years ago and we are going again this August and I still get "I can't beleive you are going to Disney again". Some people just don't get the magic of Disney. I also agree with a few of the other posters about people being jealous!

I know how you feel dmil asks that all the time as well as other family members and I chalk it up to jealousy, sometimes I have to explain to friends that Wdw isn't childish, they are known for their excellent service, food can be amazing the hotels are resorts not just your average Howard Johnson and it's one of the most fun and romantic places to spend your honeymoon or anniversary

Op, totally understand how it can be annoying but I've never understood why everyone feels the need to explain?

I always shake my head when I hear this vent, people ask me all the time why I go to Disney and I pretty much say "Because I like it"!! End of story, no futher explaination needed.

Every once in a while I will get a bit snarky and say, "In America, when you go to work and get a paycheck, you get to spend the money any way you want" but that's me, I'm a cynical NY'er.

So if you get frustrated having to explain why you like disney.... simple roll your eyes and STOP EXPLAINING!!

I feel so much better after reading this thread!! We get the same flack from family and friends about out frequent Disney trips. Like PP's, I don't judge others, why do they feel the need to judge us?? I also agree that, if done right, Disney is a great value!! Thanks, DIS ers- you are my people!

I haven't been to Disney with my Kiddos yet and I'm already talking/planning. People may get tired of me "dreaming," but I can easily blow off their comments.

If I'm lucky enough to repeat vacations and have a great time, then all is right in the world!

I know how you feel. Got the same response today. My co-worker is leaving on Sunday and I told her to call me for anything and another co-worker had to put her two cents in and say, don't you get enough? Uh no. Just went in May, going again in August, already planned cruise for next December and will be going again next August.

She asked what is it that makes you go so often? I just love Disney. That simple and besides its never the same trip everytime I go. I am the Disney Tourguide, you can say.

My sister and her GF are going with me in August and this is their first time doing the whole disney experience. Last year it was Mom that got the Disney tour and it resulted us in purchasing DVC.

My wife and I have traveled to Disneyworld (driven every time a thousand miles each way) about 20+ times since 1995. Yes, we always get the same garbage from the same people. "what? your going again??" "man, when I took my kids it was hot and I had to stand in lines!!" "wouldnt you prefer sitting on a beach??" "magic kingdom is overrated" . We always laugh it off and realize that if these people understood the magic then they wouldnt have to ask. We have 4 kids now and nothing beats the magic in their eyes for us. Im sorry, sitting on a beach with a beer in my hands does nothing for me or my wife, or my kids for that matter. As a disney veteran, I can always spot the people who will question my sanity for going each year. They are typically people who really vacation for themselves and not for their kids. When they do make the effort to take their kids to Disney they typically say that the rides are childish and overrated and they dont get why people enjoy them, but they did enjoy Epcot (more adult themed obviously, again, kids dont count). My resposne to these people is always to say that if you can step onto Main Street USA and not feel anything then you might as well turn around and head to the bar or some beach hotel for a week. Its always funny when one of these people do come back from Disney vacation (felt they had to do it for their kids). They do nothing but complain about the lines and the heat and the walking. I ask how did their kids enjoy it and they admit that they loved it. I then ask if the fact that the kids loved it counts for anything and they just give a puzzled look every time. They just won't ever get it. Dont get me wrong. Their are very nice people who just dont enjoy Disney and thats fine. To each their own. I just happen to find that most people who go and then complain about it like it was a tragedy are usually the same type of people. They usually need a drink in their hands and their skin baking in the sun while their kids sit nearby jealous of their friends who went to Disney.

I used to hear this from my family. I think they have finally figured out that I love Disney and it is my thing!! They each have their thing they like to do & I don't judge them.... Last August we bought an AP. Used it then, in Dec & Feb & will use it again in August. What a deal!!! I even had an CM make a comment to me... You are from NY & you have an AP???...that's a bit of a stretch isn't it??? No, not really - I can get on a plane & be there in 2 1/2 hours...works for me. I love Disney & will continue to go as often as I can!!!!

We get the same thing. We used to go by ourselves...now we bring the kids. The kids are young. This year they will be 19 months and almost 4 when we go. People think we are stupid for "wasting" our money on our kids who "won't remember it anyway". My son still remembers everything that we did last year. No, he will not remember every detail when he gets older. My dad took my brother and I to Disney every year until we were in high school and I don't remember every detail of every trip, but I do remember having fun. I do remember my most favorite rides, and I do remember all the family fun. Could we go other places each year...yeah.....but we don't want to. It's a great place to keep the kids entertained, the memories are priceless, and we can basically make it all inclusive for ourselves. Who else caters to people of all ages so well??? Certaintly not the beach. If the beach is your cup of tea... I say, "Do it!" But Disney is my cup of tea! Have a magical vacation everyone and don't worry what others think. There are always people who don't understand why others do the things they do. That's why we have free will...right?
