Just need to vent!!

Please...I actually didn't tell my 2 co-worker friends that I made another Disney reservation so soon after my last one (just went Memorial Day weekend and am taking the kids back during fall break in September) until several days afterwards. I knew that they would give me a hard time.

I explained that there are too many good deals out there for Disney this time, me and the kids love going, and why not. It's our vacation. We go for 3 nights at a time and have so much fun. Besides, my kids will only be young for a short amount of time. I'm enjoying Disney with them while they are so young (3 and 6 right now).

Everyone has their favorite vacation spots. For some of us, it's Disney. Too bad so sad for those who don't get that :cool2:

SILWIP= Say it loud, wear it proud!

I'm going to WDW again, or in my case I wish I were. How is going to WDW different than going to Vegas every year??? :confused3 Oh, that's right MK doesn't have alcohol. :D :rotfl: I personally don't under the fasincation to Vegas since I don't drink that much nor do I gamble. While I like the beach, it's not something I want to go to every day for a week. My poor skin can't take that.

For us, family Disney trips really are almost magic. Not to sound gushy or anything, but we so much enjoy our time there, and I figure our kids are only young once. Someday they won't want to travel with me so I better seize the moment! Yeah, my refrigerator could use updating and I may have a small credit card balance on my credit report, but the money I spend on our Disney vacations really does provide us with priceless memories. Okay, I guess it may be a little corny, but how can you put a price on great family fun. Hopefully someday my kids will cherish the memories as much as I already do!

I get sick of hearing it from people too-mainly my DH's family. We go to Disney because we love it and you get so much for your money. My kids range from 2-20 and each of them has always loved it and still do. My 2 yr old is watching Nemo right now and just said-"I want to go back to Dizzy World Mommy". Makes me very happy to hear this:)
We were just there last month (her 3rd trip) and I would love to go again this year. Just cant swing it, but we do get to go every year. My dh's family goes to the beach every year. When they come at me with the "why do you want to go again, dont you get tired of it" comments, I just say "do you get tired of going to the beach every year? It usually shuts them up, but next time we talk about planning a WDW trip, they will say it again!

I agree--some people just dont get it and NEVER will!

It's been less than a month since our last trip and have 2 more lined up for this year, so yes, I get that reaction a lot. If they don't "get it", its fine with me. One less family to crowd the parks...
There is a small theme park in my hometown. We can cover the whole park in a few hours. Annual passes are about what a one day Disney ticket costs and people here go over and over again, some several times a month. Been there, done that. As for me and my family, we skip the local passes and save up for the Disney AP. With so much to do at WDW every trip is a new adventure.:goodvibes

I'm from the UK and it costs me DH and infant DD around $4500 just for flights alone - but it is our family time every year. The reason I mention cost is because i actually had one lady I work with ask me how much it costs - now i am not one to brag about money but i was so peeved and fedup with comments, I came right out and told her the total.
She said "and you pay that every year"...I said "yes" and continued eating my lunch, in my head I thought "It's my money, i can afford it, it's none of your business and stop being so jealous!"

I prefer to interact with a small circle of friends and family. This includes those on my grade-level teaching team. They all know that my fascination with Disney is part of who I am and are happy for me when I go. So I don't usually run into that problem.

But if my husband runs into the "why" questions at work, which doesn't happen too often, he just tells them he's making his wife happy. But really, he likes to go just as much as I do. His secret is safe with me!

People think we are stupid for "wasting" our money on our kids who "won't remember it anyway".

I've never understood this rationale. Why have 1st birthday parties for babies or give them Christmas gifts (for those who celebrate)? Is the remembering the only thing that's worthwhile - doesn't the actual experiencing count for something?

Many reasons we have made several trips, but one most important is that OUR family gets along better at WDW than anywhere else.
We're a close family, but other trips it seems there is some tiff about something every day. We aren't perfect at Disney, but so much better. It brings out the best in us. :goodvibes

A friend who rents the same beach house each year once said "when we get there, it's just like 'ahhh.. we're home". Well, same for us.:)

We have a similar situation and my husband leans in and whispers, my wife has a Disney sickness.:lmao: Sort of like our Grandparents whispered when they said the word "cancer". :rotfl:

I've responded to this question a few times over the years here on the Boards. I do have some new thoughts though.

1. Disney World is a totally fake environment. It's a closed world. I can drink all I want with dinner. Not get totally hammered, but I can have what I want, AND get a Lemoncello in Italy at EPCOT after dinner. Then I take the bus back to the resort. I don't have to worry about designated drivers, or DWI's. If I got one of those on vacation, I'd lose my job (never mind the risk of killing someone). It's NICE. The grass is manicured. There is no one in the streets trying to sell me drugs (apparently, I don't look like a cop when I'm in Mexico). There are no women tugging at my sleeve and saying, "Come to my shop, come to my shop..." (like in Jamaica). There are no unairconditioned cab rides that cost $80. I can go on and on.

2. Someone recently hit me with the "Why do you keep going there" question when I was in a bad mood. They told me that they had gone to Disney recently and all they did was stand in long lines. The food was terrible, it was too hot, and (I like this one), they couldn't find a bar in the place. I immediately went on the attack and told them basically that they were idiots and didn't know what they were doing. They waited in line because they went at the wrong time of the year, they didn't use the FastPass system correctly, they didn't plan, and they didn't book ADR's. I asked them if they tried the food at Jiko, Le Cellier, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and Shula's. I asked them if they'd been to Jellyroll's at the Boardwalk. Nope... never heard of any of that. So, in other words, they just dragged their kids into the Magic Kingdom and expected everything to happen for them. I bet they ran over people's feet with their stroller too!

I told you I was in a bad mood.

I have a couple that I take care of that basically last week berated me for planning another Florida trip. They know my wife as well, and Im sure that she had some part in it..However, the way they kept going on and on really agitated me. My wife fessed up to speaking with them about it, but agreed that they went too far.
They insist that we go on a cruise, leave the kids at home, etc. The guy even said 'what are you afraid of water or something?" I have no interest in a cruise, not even a disney cruise. I am certainly not interested in leaving my kids with anyone. Id rather they have a part in the fun, rather than stay a week at grandmothers house.
They then went on to explain how they have their youngest in a day school to keep him out their hair, and id had enough.
Another guy I know, when I commented on how this would be the second trip this year, "and thats scary"..Why is it scary? Its paid for?..Not a single other thing in my life have you said is 'scary'..but this..Just weird. Lemme be.

OP, there is a great book you should read (I just started reading it over the weekend)... Mousejunkies by Bill Burke. Just like here on the Dis Boards, when you read it you will know you're not alone. ;)

Oh, and BTW I know how you feel. I get the same comments all the time from family and friends. It definitely bugs me... but the people who actually go with me on DVC vacations, namely my hubby and 2 daughters, are totally on board! When the 4 of us are there together, not much else matters during those magical vacations! :wizard:

I too have had friends to question our disney trips. (My husband #1 but we just go without him now.:rotfl2:) I try to help my friends plan their trips so they will enjoy them, try to make them understand it takes some research and planning. You can't just go without planning and expect your first trip to be as magical as all of mine. But they don't listen and come back complaining. I admit the more we go to WDW the better it gets because it is easier each year. I always learn something new from every trip.:woohoo:

I can't tell you how or when it happened, it just did...we are going back this August for our 6th WDW trip since we have had kids. (This August will be our 4th trip in 3 years!) What I can tell you is that we KNOW that when we go to Disney we are guaranteed to have a blast! We feel that we are getting a great value for our money, and we know the quality of entertainment that we are getting.

DH and I are both teachers, so we can only travel during the times of the year when places are expensive and/or crowded. We need to be sure that we are able to plan wisely. We've done the Jersey shore so many times.... this August will be the first time we are trying Disney instead. I know it's going to be HOT, but with Free Dining it will cost us less for the 5 of us to go to Disney! (We are driving...) I also think we will have a better time - there will be a ton more to do at Disney than the shore!

We still hear from people, "I can't believe you are going back again - you were just there in December - aren't you bored...." But they never say that to people who go to the Jersey shore year after year. (I find that kind of boring IMO...) We are so excited to go...and this time we get to try the waterparks - we've never been able to go before since it's been to cold in December!

I also get the Disney again from friends and family and I don't care.:rolleyes1We have been on other family vacations where I have to research things to do in the are and where to eat a place to stay. Who needs all the hassle.
At Disney there is ALWAYS something to do.:) I never hear from the kids I'm bored or I don't like this. Everytime we go we find something new and interesting. As the kids get older we experience new things.
Disney in my opinion is a no brainer vacation. Disney is the best of both worlds.:goodvibes You can keep busy doing everything there is to do or relax and do nothing.
We like Disney so much that we are getting in a few days before our Disney cruise to experience Discovery Cove and staying on property.
Go Disney!!!:wizard:

:wizard: We started going in 1983 and made several trips as a family of 5. Then somehow my youngest daughter and I had the opportunity to go just the two of us and we've made it our special vacation ever since....she's now 25! We LOVE Disney! It's a fun, safe vacation for the two of us to go on each year. We look into going other places every year and always end up back at WDW in August! As she's gotten older the vacation has changed and we now can enjoy a Fiesta Margarita and take the bus back to our room.
I think WDW is the perfect vacation (obviously) because it has all the things anyone could want. There's always something to do no matter what the weather, you can relax by the pool or go to the parks, enjoy amazing food and eat all the Dole Whip you want! If other people don't get it, then it's their loss....hey, I don't get people going on cruises. My DH and I went on one years ago and never threw up so much in my life!!!! :scared1:

Thank you all so much for all of your replies;), you have made me feel so much better. My first experience at Disney was when I was about 15 and I totally fell in love:lovestruc. I only had the opportunity to go one other time after that. My DH went we he was 4 and didn't remember it. Then it happened we went to Disney on our honeymoon:love:. I get a few laughs at that too! Went a few more times before we had kids. We started taking our kids when our first was a week shy of a year, people say why take them that young, they won't remember that. You are right they won't, but I will. Disney is the one place on earth that I can go to and totally loose myself in the magic, the smells, the sights. Bills do not matter, work doesn't matter, the outside world doesn't matter. And to me that is what a vacation is. Even when it is so hot and so crowded, we have a great time. Its our special place, we have made and will continue to make wonderful memories there.

Thanks to this community I can discuss my love of all things Disney. I come here every day for my "fix". Yes I am addicted:laughing::laughing:
