I am so tired of having to explain myself to people as to why I vacation in Disney every year. I have been bombarded with questions like, Why do go to Disney every year? Isn't it hot in the summer? Isn't is crowded? Isn't it expensive? Don't you get bored? It is soooo irritating. No. 1. I go because my family loves it, we have a great time, they provided great service and their parks are really clean, cast members are usually very friendly. No. 2. Yes its hot in the summer in Florida, it is also hot in the summer at the beach, its hot here in Pittsburgh, who cares, I'm on vacation!! No. 3. Yes its crowded and we schedule our day accordingly, beaches are crowded too. No. 4. The price of a trip to Disney isn't anymore expensive than renting a beach house for a week, I have more fun in Disney than a beach. No. 5. And most important, NO, I could Never get bored with Disney!

How many people vacation at the same beach every summer? A lot, does anyone ever say, Why do you go to the beach every year, Isn't it hot there? etc, etc, etc!!

I have pretty much had it with talking about my vacation cause I'm tired of trying to explain myself! I will just continue to come here to my happy place where I am surrounded with people who share my love for my favorite place on earth:lovestruc

Thanks for letting me vent.:grouphug:

I know how you feel. I just heard it again on Thursday. I go because I love it! I can travel to Europe and any where else I want when my kids are grown. Right now, I want to enjoy them and see them enjoy WDW. Some people don't get it and that's a shame for them.

People either get Disney, or they don't. Those of us who go every year obviously get it. People that do, and say, yeah, it was ok, obviously don't. Dh and I have a saying: "It's the magic of Disney!" Thankfully not too many people ask me why we go every year, cuz if they did, I'd probably look at them as if they were on drugs...

You can always talk to us, we here at the DIS understand and love to talk Disney.

That's why I'm glad I found you guys.

I just tell them everyone has their thing & this is mine!

I have friends who fish, hunt, ski, whatever. They have fun & I'm happy for them. It makes no difference to me if they like what I do or not. I wear my Disney Love proudly on my shoulder so people don't usually say anything. I also try to show excitement for their trips so there is a shared respect.

A little comfort. After about 9 years they quit asking and start to assume that is where you will be going!:cool1: No worries. Do what makes you all happy.:thumbsup2

I have to agree with you:thumbsup2 When my kids are grown then I will go places besides Disney, but for now that is where we go. We don't go every year (althought I would like to) and I still am getting the "you are going there again" comments:confused: Yes, I am going "there" again, and why do you care???:confused3

THANK YOU! I am planning a trip for this fall and I just heard last night "again? didn't you just go?" Umm, no, we went in Nov.

I will not matter to me how old my children get I will always go to Disney. Most of the people I work with assume Disney is for small kids. My DD is 15 and DS is 13. My husband and I take them every year with my parents who are 70 and 66 years old. I am my parents DD and I am 40 years old and not too old for Disney. Like a previous poster stated some people just don't understand.
We gave my teenage daughter a choice Disney or a car..... She choose DISNEY:banana:

Hi,

I have been reading the dis board since the beginning of the year. After reading your post, I felt compelled to join. I am also from Pittsburgh and get the same treatment, from co workers, family, and friends. I only just found what I consider to be "heaven on earth" three years ago and I simply don't try to explain it anymore. Mostly everyone I know goes to Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head and I simply have no interest in going to the beach. I say let them have their beaches and you continue to do what you feel in your heart. I think the world would be a better place if everyone could tap into the type of magic that's found at Disney.

We've been getting these questions since we started going in '96! Like you, we know many people who go on fishing/camping trips several times a year; visit the same beach town or mountain resort; yet we are the only ones who ever hear "again?!?" It got so bad I quit telling people, and then they were upset and wanted to know why we didn't say we were leaving town. Gee, I wonder.

As a PP stated, it does lessen after several years. Everyone I know has finally stopped asking it every time - now, it's usually just a weak "really? Oh!" or "where you goin'? Disney?"

I feel for you! Same thing here! I think people are just jealous. I live in Pittsburgh too, and it was extremely hot today :)

You all have truly made my day. I have a hard time not saying where I'm going for vacation cause I just love to talk about Disney, however, I am quickly learning I need to stop. You are all correct some people don't get it and never will.

Dis Diva, you are right, people in Pittsburgh go to Myrtle, Hilton Head or Outerbanks, boo! We did Myrtle one year and I absolutlye hated it. My family loves Disney and the Orlando area and that's where we enjoy our summer vacations.

Oh, we also drive, that also makes people crazy. As if the ride to Myrtle is any better!

Disney is the right fit for us. Thanks for all your posts.

Mickey loves me and can't wait to see me. Really.:cloud9:

I just don't understand why people CARE how others spend their vacation! :confused3

I guess I'm lucky - most of the people around me are pretty cool with it (or if they aren't, they keep it to themselves, as they should!). In fact, right now my WHOLE OFFICE is on pins and needles because they all know I'm surprising my son with a trip on Wednesday! I had to coach them all not to say anything about Disney as my son is in the office a fair amount, so they all feel like they're in on it.

When they start paying for my vacations they can decide where I go. These are usually the people who go to the same lake/beach house every summer.

I agree with you we usually keep our vacation plans to ourselves, because whenever we say we are going to Disney we always get AGAIN don't you get bored there don't you want to see anything else!!! I can't stand when people try to make us feel bad about a place that makes our whole family happy. In fact, this year we have not told anyone where we are going and we are going for 17 days. I am so excited but I don't like telling anyone because I don' t want to hear the comments that follow. I don't understand how people don't like Disney it makes you feel like a kid again and isn't that what life is supposed to be. I have never judged anyone's family trips why do they get to judge mine!!! That is why I also love disboards, because I can share my true joy. I hope you all have wonderful trips and truly enjoy all the magic and happiness that surrounds you while on your vacations :):):):):):):):)

I honestly think that Disney gives you great bang for the buck, especially as nearly everything has gotten super expensive, from admission to a zoo or an aquarium to mini-golf! Take for example our Mother's Day disaster. My very well-intentioned mother got tickets to take our three year old son to ride Thomas the Train. Each ticket was twenty bucks, so all told, she paid about one hundred dollars for us to ride a train for fifteen minutes! True story. Another one is how much it costs to go to your average county fair! :scared1:

I agree that there are people how get it and those that don't. There are people I just don't talk to about it much, frankly. It just bothers me that a lot of people think dissing Disney is totally acceptable, whereas I'd be looked at as I don't know what if I said their beach/camping/trip to France was ridiculous.

This week, when I was asked by somebody what we were doing for our vacation, I said that we were going to WDW again. She replied that they were also thinking of going to Florida and were going to do Disney too ... in 1 day!:lmao: She remembered being there a few decades ago so I tried to explain how things have changed and about the different parks that exist now. She informed me that she wasn't interested in the Animal Kingdom because she had taken her kids to lots of zoos. At that point I just gave up, smiled and told her to have a good trip.:rolleyes1

My thoughts too. Anyone can goto the beach (just look at the crowd types and roller coaster theme parks?) even the :headache:drunkspopcorn:: I know that sounds wrong (I have living in a PC world:scared1:) But there is something different about WDW drunks. First if you live in a beach town, all you would need for the beach is a cooler for drinks and food and a ride to the beach.

WDW on the other had is :
1. Parking $14 (buys gas for car)
2. Theme park admission $75 Per adult:scared1: (a whole lot of beer:rotfl:)
3. Food at parks $10-45 per person :scared1::scared1:
4. A place to sleep on WDW property ($54 - $500+ /night:rolleyes1)

Money to buy a $7+ dollar beer :scared1: Hmmmmm, what money?:scared1::lmao:

Could have that drunk you meet on your last beach vacation drunk at MK :headache::lmao:

That's why I enjoy WDW. It's not for everyone (now get out of my parks:mad::mad:) :lmao:
