Anyway,
i have been having problems with my ipod touch 3g. I would have to smack it every time to turn it on. With that in mind i thought it was the battery...hoping it was the battery and nothing worse. So i take it to apple to diagnose it. The guy comes back and tells me it's not the battery. The home button (aka the button on the front bottom) is broken. THe only option is to buy the same one for $150. or have 10% off a new version.

i don't want to spend $150.00 for the same one because of the 4g model. Why go with the same one when there is a better one?

The worse thing is that my ipod was only 1 year 2mths old. I think a $225 ipod touch 3g should last for more then 1 year (and 2 mths).

should i make a big fuss to apple or
just put up the extra $278.00 for a new ipod?

I would definitely say something. There is no guarantee that they will do anything for you but you're absolutely right, it should last for longer than a year!

Incidentally, I've heard that the people at Apple can be very generous. A story on the radio said that one man had to return his iPad because his wife wouldn't let him keep it. When the folks at Apple heard about it, they sent him another one free of charge. So who knows, you might get lucky. Just remember to be polite :thumbsup2

I don't have any experience using the Apple store so I don't really know what kind of help they could give you. I just contacted them online and they're very helpful. They will get back to you within 48 hours usually and they check back after the problem is solved to make sure you're happy. (I hope I don't sound like I complain all the time haha, I just had some issues with my iTunes account so I some have recent experience ;)) Good luck!

I just hope i can get something without having to spend too much money. if i can get like 50-75% off a new one (4g) i'd be happy. they did offer 10% off but that's like saying I'll give you this $100 item for $98.00 + tax. lol.

I am also kind of angry cuz i spent a whole lot of well earned $$ on games/music/movies for the ipod and now i don't have one. Blah...

I'm sorry that your iPod died 2 months out of warranty. How long have you had problems? If it's been more than 2 months maybe you can go back to the Apple Store and tell them you were having problems before the warranty expired. I had my iPhone replaced about 11 months after buying it and they gave me the same version even though there was a new version of the phone available. I think you might be able to convince them to give you a new iPod touch (same version) if you ask nicely.

I bought my DD an iPod touch a few weeks ago and I made sure that I bought it with my AMEX card so I could get double to the warranty on it.

I've had nothing but great service with those Apple people.

I bought my MacBook pro last year and ELEVEN days after I bought it, they came out with a newer, bigger, stronger, faster one for the same price. :headache:

I called the Apple people and they asked if I had a store near me. I did. They had me bring it back, they exchanged it for the newer model and then gave me a new printer (it was free but it was a rebate thing. I got the money back for the printer within four weeks.)

We bought (OK I bought) DBF's touch from Best Buy, his stopped working at 1 year and 2 months as well!!! BUT I bought the Black Tie Protection from Best Buy so we took it in for repair, got a refurbished one back and it broke too, took it back and they upgraded him to a new iTouch 4th Generation! I had to buy the new Black Tie Protection because using it for replacement fulfills the agreement but $70 for a new touch wasn't bad IMO. Especially since this one is also covered for 2 years.....
I would contact Apple again, especially since it's 2 months out of warranty...that's just not cool....

i know!
i really am depressed about it because it's my life line for the gym.
i was on hold for 30 mintes with apple so far. i decided to hang up.
i am just thinking bout going to the apple store tomorrow to talk to someone
but i really am frustrated..

back on hold

Doesn't sound like Apple.

Apple usually just takes back the broken one and hands you a new one. :confused3

Wow.... I waited on hold for 1.5 hours all to hear "Sorry" it's not under warrenty."
just wow!!
i told them my problem and it's 1.2 years old and all he said was "Sorry can't do anything"

I'm guessing it's because of the age. In two months they will probably come out with new models, making yours two generations behind.

Sorry they couldn't be of more help.

That's a bummer :(. In their defense, most companies do not service items under warranty after the warranty is up. In addition, you could have purchased an extended warranty through Apple Care or another company. I know that I received many emails from Apple telling me my warranty was going to be up soon and offering Apple Care.

My DD's boyfriend's parents had an old ipod that was broken and they were going to get it fixed....Apple just gave them a new one. Same gen as the old one but new. The old one was at least 2 years old. I was shocked but glad to hear it.

I just realized i spent $288.00 for it in February 2010.
i'm going to try to get a little more discount off the 4g.
I sent an email to Steve Jobs regarding my dilema, as I was put on hold for 2 hours to hear them say "Tough Luck" in a more polite way. but still.

I thinking about going to a different apple store and trying to have them help a poor girl out, as I never got an email stating my warrant was ending , nor a phone call.

If i can score a FREE 3g one that would be fine too. but i'm not going to pay $150.00 for a refurbished one.

I had to pay $150 for a new iphone when I dropped mine in the toilet when it was only a few months old - that's not covered under warranty. And my laptop was dropped - obvious dents - although the problem was from before the drop. Apple can't believe everyone, so we had to pay for that as well. It happens.

Well, I just got back from apple store....

with my new Free ipod touch 3g (32gb).

I was very surprised. They took more time to look at the ipod to see what was wrong with it, then the other store. Then the girl goes to see her manager and comes back. Well because it's 2 mths over warrenty, I've talked to my manager and i can give you the same one fore free.

Wow. I was not expecting that!!
I did, ask for thee 4g... but only the 3g. while i asked i was like "Shut up megan." lol.

soooo happy. :cool1:

* When i walked into the apple store it smelled like the Disney Monorail interior. lol.
