For anyone thinking about doing a "one on one" trip with any of the children in your life, all I can say is, DO IT DO IT DO IT!!! We had the most wonderful time, and, as much as i was looking forward to it, it exceeded my expectations. We left Hartford Friday 11/9 at 11:00 am on a nonstop, and arrived in Orlando at 1:45 pm. Took a Tiffany towncar to Port Orleans, checked in, found our room , Magnolia Terrace, dropped our bags and headed to the bus stop. We waited about 10 minutes at the East depot. This was the LONGEST wait for a bus we had all vacation. We were walking down Main Street of the Magic Kingdom, hand in hand, at 4:00. Our first ride was Haunted Mansion, then we caught Cinderella's show in front of the castle, which was very enjoyable. We then hit Fantasyland for Peter Pan and Snow White, and then walked over to Liberty Square. Stopped in a gift shop to buy an autograph book, and then sat on the wall by the Liberty bell and waited for Spectro. We had seen this before, and we really like this parade. Although the park was more crowded than I had expected, we had a great view from the wall, and only waited there about a half hour before the parade. After Spectro, we walked over to the Crystal Palace and sat on the porch waiting for our PS. We saw the fireworks, and just as they ended, they called our name! Our waiter was Michael from Minnesota, and he sang "earth angel" to my daughter...quite funny! All the characters were fun and interactive, and the food was good to boot! We left the CP just in time to see the "goodnight kiss", caught a bus back to POR, and were in our room by 8:45 pm. The first day had gone off without a hitch, we had enjoyed everything without feeling rushed or stressed... and we were ready for Day 2!

How old is your daughter? I think it would be a blast to take my son on a vacation, just him and me. My husband, however, would be heartbroken if we left him at home.

love Disney as much as we do.......but they are married and we have grandkids.....so now we do the one on one with the grandkids....we are all going in April .....so am very anxious......thanks so much for a great start to your vacation

My daughter is nine. My husband and son went to the US soccer Olympic development camp together this summer (my husband was a chaperone), and they have done hockey tournaments together as well. My husband is my daughter's hockey coach, so most Sundays they are off together one on one for that. It is a nice dynamic when you are alone with one of your kids, even if it is just for a day or two, but this was ESPECIALLY nice for me because it was Disney, and there were no sports involved!!!

Sounds like a wonderful first day, thanks for posting. :)

I've done this too this year...gone to D-world with just one of my children. My husband is not quite the fanatic I am and was relieved to be left at home. :)

In May, I went for 4 days with my 14 year old son and the following October, I went for 4 days with my 11 year old daughter. It's so great going to Disney this way! It's so much more relaxed and the family dynamics are so different. Although I think each child missed the other one (somewhat) during their trip. I was also spared trying to do everything that everyone wanted and listening to the inevitable squabbes. We stayed both times at POR - the room seems so spacious when it's just two of you. Definitely the way to travel; especially now that the older child is in high school.

:)

Wow this is so nice to see1 My dd and I will be taking our first "real" vacation to DW next May! I am scared but extremely excited about it! She will be 4 by then and I think this will be SUPER for both of us! I am glad you had such a great time!

Oh, Anne, it was so nice to read your trip report! I was "supposed" to spend a week in WDW with just my little daughter & myself next month, but my parents decided that they would join us a week "earlier" than planned, so, I will only have one day with my daughter before the crowds of my family begin to arrive. Oh, well, at least I got to pretend that "your" trip report was "my" trip report (hee hee). Welcome home!

Anne, I started this tradition - trips for just my DD and me - two years ago when she was 8. I've made her swear she won't get tired of it - I want to keep it up until she has kids of her own! We're leaving in 5 days for our 3rd trip... she is now 10. I think the memories are priceless. I only wish I'd done it when my boys were young. They are now 19 and 21 and I have precious few memories of one-on-one times together... live and learn...
Thanks for your report!!

What a wonderful first day you had. Thanks for telling us about it.

Katholyn

What a wonderful trip! My mother and I STILL do this! It is a very special way to share each other's company.
