and it's wonderful!! i love sweet things for breakfast...

it's a bit on the lemony side, but it's really pretty good! has anyone tried to make one of these using the SF syrups yet? how much would you use? i found a bottle of SF cherry syrup and my taste buds have been in heaven! i can still have my diet cherry cokes!!

well, we're on week 2 of induction now. i'm doing much better now than i was late last week. over the weekend, i lost nearly 5 pounds!!! i really need to invest in a measuring tape again...i would be curious to see where this weight is coming off from!

thanks for all the encouragement guys! i don't think i would want to stick to it if it wasn't for everyone here on these boards. you truly are a great inspiration...{{{{{hugs}}}}}

we're trying the dijon pork chops for dinner tonight. i'll let you know how they tasted in the morning!

I use the syrup just like I use the granulated Splenda, measure for measure.

Try adding almond extract to the mock danish. My husband loves that and prefers it to the lemony taste. I'm thinking of trying the amarretto s/f syrup in the danish too. It just sounds good to me.

Go buy yourself a tape measure toute de suite. You need to have those measurements so that you can truly see your success. The number on a scale is nice but it doesn't give a true reflection of your success.

Measuring yourself can make the difference between success and defeat, too. I have gone weeks and weeks without showing a loss on the scale but I lost inches instead. Go measure yourself.

I'm so proud of you for sticking with your eating plan, sweetie. Atkins is tough the first couple of weeks for some people (like my dh and you) and a lot of them drop out. But not you! You just hung in there. That is quite an accomplishment.

Atkins isn't for everyone but if it is right for <i>you</i> then you will be very glad that you didn't quit.

You are definitely on your way to goal now. Isn't this exciting? You are doing so well.

Onward and downward, cutie.

I really have to try the mock danish- sounds like it will be tomorrow's breakfast for me. If you use flavored syrup instead of the Splenda, can you omit the almond or lemon?

so..if i wanted to add the sf cherry syrup, i would omit the splenda?

i'll have to try the almond extract too. that may help it not be so lemony and will give me some variety...

it was surprisingly easy to make. i brought all of my ingrediants with me to work (i was running late this morning!) and made it after i had all of my morning duties done. my office provides bagels and cream cheese for our students for breakfast each morning. those cream cheese packets that philadelphia cream cheese puts out are fabulous! each one is 1 ounce...so i just used 2 and then my other ingredients...

My DH really likes teh Danish too.
We've used the lemon, orange and cherry extracts.
Think I will try the banana too.

I just omit the splenda and the lemon and use an extract flavor instead of the lemon. Wilgus loves the almond. I think I will go and make the amaretto flavor now and see what it's like :)

i tried the mock danish and it came out really strange...i think i did something wrong. i used whipped cream cheese...would that be why?

ok...i went and bought myself a tape measure last night and began measuring this morning...we're on day 9 so i got a late start on measuring, but at least i have it now and can start, hopefully, seeing a difference!!

we tried the pork chops dijon or whatever it's called from the recipe thread...it was really good!! the dijon sauce had the right amount of zing to it for me...the italian dressing really toned it down.

tonight, we're trying a taco bake i found on another board somewhere...i think lowcarbfriends.com. i'll let you know how that one is tomorrow!

Just this morning I was thinking about using cherry syrup in the Mock danish. If you try it, let me know how it is because I haven't bought the syrup yet.

I have tried it w/almond extract & it's pretty good.

Von, try the Danish again using regular cream cheese. Try almond instead of lemon, too, it's very good (if you like almond). Any extract will work in place of the lemon juice :)

Also, remember, when you eat the mock danish, try not to think of it as a danish, otherwise your mouth may be doing that little "yuck pooey what was <i>that</i>" jig :)

I don't like using artificial sweetners, but you peaked my interest when you said ommit the splenda and lemon and add the almond extract???

So I could omit the sweetner and just add the extract and it makes it tasty enough to eat??????????????????

I can't wait to try it now! I am going back to the low carb recipe board and checking out the recipe again.

Melanie

NO! Wait Mel. You will need some sort of sweetener in addition to the extracts.

The sugar free syrups are liquid Splenda. Splenda is made from sugar, so it isn't really artifical.

Use the liquid s/f syrup in place of the granulated Spenda and add the almond instead of the lemon.

ok..i made it with the cherry this morning, but i forgot to bring my extract with me...i only had vanilla...it wasn't quite the flavor i was looking for! but i'm going to the store to purchase some almond extract to see if that will help...

it was still good, but not quite there yet...it was very cream cheesey too for some reason...

What do you guys think of the way splenda tastes? Does it give off that yucky aftertaste?

I did try something with splenda in it, it was some type of ice cream they were giving out in our cafeteria. It still had a funny aftertaste. What do you guys think of splenda..........do you taste that funny taste you get when you drink diet coke?? I would rather do without than drink a diet coke.........aack!

Melanie

i'm an avid diet coke drinker so that flavor you are referring to doesn't bother me at all...

now, i do get an odd aftertaste when i drink the diet rite cola. it's almost too sweet for me...

I would rather do without than drink a diet coke.........aack!

Melanie, I am so with you on that! I never drink diet anything - hate the flavor! I've tried some of the Splenda sweetened items but they're also giving me that icky aftertaste. I've gotten used to iced tea and coffee without sugar but I'd really like something sweet now and then. Is there any other sweetener that doesn't leave a weird taste? And are the flavored s/f syrups flavored enough that you wouldn't notice the sweetener taste?

I made it for breakfast today and I really liked it! I didn't have any lemon concentrate (only extract) so I only used vanilla extract and I like the way it tasted. I'll have to try the almond. Do you still use the lemon concentrate if you switch the vanilla extract for almond extract?

I have been trying so many new recipes lately!

Jill...on day 3 of low carb eating and doing ok!

hey guys! just thought i'd pass on to you that i tried the mock danish this morning made with the black cherry SF torani syrup...

IT WAS HEAVENLY!!! it was just sweet enough to cure my sweet tooth and rather satisfying too. i used about a tbsp of the syrup in place of the splenda and then used almond extract in place of the lemon.

i'm going to try it with the chocolate syrup soon!

Aloha!

I am sitting here eating the Mock Danish for the first time!!!

I can't believe how good this is....B'fast is always the hardest meal for me...I have been saved!

Didn't have lemon anything so I threw in about 10 bluberries!

WOW!!!

Mahalo!

I made the mock danish with vanilla davinci and some cinnamon. It reminded me of French Toast and I really liked it!
