Just looking for some thoughts....

1. Our last trip to WDW was last December..

2. We will be having our first child in September...

3. My wife is a school teacher and I own a lawncare business, so about the only time we can get away for a whole week is either at Christmas time or spring break, though we could do a 4-5 day trip during other parts of the year...

So considering all of that, when would most of you try to get in a trip to WDW???

Given all the parameters to consider, my own choice would be to go next spring.

The reasons for this mainly center around your new baby.

December is a crazy time for most people. It can be difficult to handle the holidays AND a new baby. It will only be more difficult if you throw a major vacation into the mix.

By spring, you and your DW will have had more time to adjust to the demands of parenthood and will be more at ease with your baby's individual needs, likes and dislikes.

Also, the weather will be warmer and you will not need to pack those extra blankets and sweaters that a baby needs. Newborns cannot regulate their body temperatures as well as older infants. December can be very cold , even in WDW. A newborn will get chilly quite easily.

Newborns also eat more often than a 6-month old infant. This would require you to stop your touring more frequently in order to accomodate this need. You will also need to carry formula and bottles if your DW is not nursing the baby.

Oh, and congratulations on your impending parenthood! Your life will never be the same! It's going to be so much richer!

I'm not a good source of advice about this topic because I am too selfish and lazy to take an infant with me to the parks. Now, if I had me a <i>grandbaby</i> I would love going anywhere with him/her but as a Mom? Sorry, wouldn't do it.

I know lots of DISers tour with children and are really experts at it, though, hopefully they will give you some advice about this.

Congratulations are in order! I've never brought a baby to WDW, but I've had a baby, and I know how much work they are, especially as newborns. I truly can't imagine bringing a baby to WDW - but I'm always surprised at how many people on these boards do bring them, and seem to sail right through the process. I think it's a personal issue, but my advice as a mom - wait until the baby is a bit older. You'll all enjoy the trip more.

It really does depend on the baby. The youngest we ever took any of ours was when DS was 5 months. He was a jolly, fat, easy to please little guy! Our older girls were 4 and 2 at the time so we really went for their sake. I vote for Spring if you just can not wait any longer than that. Avoid the heat at all costs!! Spend baby's first Christmas with your family, Disney is cold then anyway. Oh yeah, CONGRATS!

So with an infant, what kind of things do you do all day??? While never the big thrill seekers, we do enjoy going on all of the rides with the possible exception of ToT... Sorry for asking such a goofy question, but its one that I suppose I have to ask... Can we take a 6 mos old on a ride like Peter Pan????

Based on the info you have presented, I would do Spring Break. We've been away from home on Christmas and really weren't too thrilled about it. By Spring, the baby will be older and the weather nicer.

We brought our DS and DD for their first WDW visits when they were 6 mos. and 7 mos. old. Being from the northeast, our trips were usually in Jan/Feb. when it was too cold to take our children for a walk in a stroller at home, but perfect weather in FL. They rode family attractions with us, such as Peter Pan, Small World, Horizons, World of Motion, the Original Journey into the Imagination ride, Spaceship Earth, etc. Whenever DH or I felt the need to do a more adult ride, we used fastpass and baby swap.

BTW, we've sometimes tried to do our own version of babyswap by getting fastpasses and returning at the earliest time in the window. It seems easy in practice, and often works, but you can't believe sometimes the circumstances that can delay the 2nd parent from getting on the ride. So I'd suggest talking to a CM about baby swapping. Each ride seems to handle it differently.
