All right, sorry about the mix up readers, but here is Day 5, which came BEFORE DHS haha. I decided to let up on my Disney tour guide/slave driver routine and allow us a day to sleep in. Im not even the parent and I tend to run the family vacation, as you can see! We had an 8am Boma ADR and DM switched it to 1030, I was fine with that since it was our AK day and while this park is great, it is nowhere near my favorite and doesnt take long to do anyways.
The drive to breakfast was short and sweet since Orange Lake was literally 5 mins from AKL. I LOVE this resort, I think it is just gorgeous and I want to stay there so badly. DF doesnt agree, so for now Ill settle for visiting! He and I wandered over to Jiko to just see it and look at the menu since this is on our list for our June trip while DM checked us in. We were seated within 5 mins. I paused just long enough to order a glass of Jungle Juice (after reading so many people gush about it here on the boards!) before I made a beeline for the buffet. The food here was fabulous. Again, sorry for the lack of food pictures, I meant to take them but I guess I was too busy chowing down to remember! They had your standard eggs, sausage, potatoes, etc., but some other African inspired things that the boys loved. They had an omelet bar too, I got a cheddar cheese one, so good! I really liked the pastries too, they had killer muffins, cinnamon buns and chocolate croissants. And the fruit selection was great too. I had three glasses of jungle juice when all was said and done, it was sooo good! I cant remember what was in it besides guava and orange but I was in love. We had done Boma for dinner twice before and really enjoyed it, and breakfast was just as yummy. I love buffets because of the selection, but I tend to not eat very much at them because its just SO much food, but that is never the case at Boma.
We wandered around the lobby and gift shop on the way out, then drove over to AK. We parked next to a van full of people who had DRIVEN down from CT. Yikes, I could never do that!
The crowds were very light that day. DF and I stopped for a quick picture or two.
Photopass people like to make newly engaged couples kiss in the pictures!
Most of us wandered over to the KS line while DB ran to get EE FPs (I did not envy him, running on a very full stomach!) The wait for the safari was only about 20 mins.
Our guide kinda stunk, he sounded like a disgruntled radio DJ who was bummed to be stuck working at WDW. But we did see lots of great animals. At one point, a rhino came so close to our car that I thought he would ram it!
The almost attacker:
We also got a great view of a lion, but the jeep was moving too fast to catch a good picture. Oh well, this was the best I could do:
After our trek through the Savannah, we wandered through the Pangani trail.
The gorillas fascinate me.
By then it was already time for our EE FP. Photopass on the way:
And a shot of a very entertaining monkey:
We are all rollercoaster junkies (minus mom), so we love EE. The backwards part gets me every time! We got off and got right back in line since standby was only 30 mins, and I heard the waiting area was cool. It did not disappoint! The attention to detail at Disney always amazes me. There was a little store and museum in the queue area. DM sat out this time and got us more FPs for later while she waited (told ya we love it!)
To pass the time before the FPs, DB decided he wanted to see Flights of Wonder. We all agreed it would be fun to try something new, so we caught the next show. It was very interesting! The birds was very impressive, and DD got to participate! They needed volunteers to video tape while an owl flew over their head, and he got to do it.
Said owl:
Brave father, after getting his camera grazed by the owl:
They brought out a bald eagle which was the highlight of the show for me.
After that we caught ITTBAB, Im the only one who wanted to but I insisted. Its cute, and I love getting up close to the tree.
Look Familiar?:
I forgot to mention in my earlier DHS post that when we did Muppet Vision 3D, the sprayer above my seat was broken (the one for the part when fozzy quirts the flower at you) and dripped water on me for the ENTIRE show. Well guess what, that same thing happened here! Something was dripping on me the whole time. Me and 3D movies dont mix apparently, which is sad because I do love them.
We used our EE FPs and then headed to Dinoland. We rode Primeval Whirl since it was only a ten minute wait, then rode Dinosaur. DS sat out, she doesnt like how jerky it is. I must confess that I scream like a baby when the Carnotaurus pops out at you. Im such a nerd but it freaks me out!
At this point it was already 4, the park closed at 5 and we had done everything we wanted to do. We grabbed some snacks on the way out, I got a cookies and cream mickey ice cream sandwich, yum! We did some shopping too. DF found an adorable Eeyore antenna topper for his car. On the way out we caught one last PP picture:
On the way back to the resort, we were debating where to eat dinner. DB insists that we go to Quiznos, there is one on the property and he loves it there. God knows why, the kid likes the simple things I guess. He would not give up on it! Finally we all gave up and just agreed to get sandwiches there for dinner. Ugh, I hate eating non Disney food when Im down there, off property or not. And this was not the last time we stopped for fast food on this trip! More about that later
oh well, food is food. It was still early at that point so we went to the pool right after and played more shuffleboard for the evening until it was time for bed. It was very relaxing, it was nice and warm the whole trip so we got in lots of pool and hot tub time!
Next up: Ill finish Day 6 (haha) DHS so stay tuned!
