is it for your hair product to leave your hair soft?

I have long thick hair with waves and curls and since I am the only one whose opinion of touching my hair matters I can honestly say I'd rather it look good than feel soft.

Also, why does all this stuff smell so much like potpourri? That cheap neon gel in the 80s used to smell like car air freshener and it's only gone downhill from there.

In the grand scheme of life, not very important. But I don't like it if the product leaves my hair crunchy and/or sticky.

I cut off all my hair in 2017...nobody touches it(including me after I'm done styling it for the day) so I couldn't even tell you if what I use makes my hair soft-it smells good though lol

My hair is important to me. It doesn’t have to necessarily be soft, but it has to be styled well. A bad hair day starts off as a bad day, lol.

How my hair feels is mostly a result of the humidity on any given day. I don't put any product in it and use the same shampoo and conditioner every day. Some days it feels super soft, some days it's dry, some days it feels coarse. I have no idea how to control that.

Mine is more about keeping the hair from looking greasy as it's fine and thin and straight and is prone to greasy roots. I have gotten many compliments on my hair and the softness and color of it but I just use Aussie shampoo and conditioner nothing fancy and my hair isn't dyed yet. I personally love the smell and don't think it smells like potpourri.

I don't style my hair, no point and a waste of time. It doesn't retain style and I'm not interested in taking the time to get a curl to stay in with copious amounts of hairspray and forget bobby pins, and the like they slide right out. I do put my hair up in a ponytail virtually everyday now because I work out but I'm always adjusting it multiple times while doing so as it slides out. Meh I've been okay thus far without feeling the dire urge to style it (only doing so for some dances in school and a tiny bit for my wedding), could change that feeling at some point though.

If you can imagine, my hair is naturally too soft. It’s very fine and slick. After I wash it, it all falls in my face. Like cousin It. I’m not kidding. I actually use gel to give it texture so it will hold a style. I have to use hair spray on top of that. I can never wash and go.

I used to keep my hair permed all the time. Once that totally went out of style I just try to pouf it up a little so it’s not matted to my head. I miss the 80s.

I have thick, wavy below shoulder length hair and I wash and style it daily. I don’t like how my hair looks with heavy, sticky product, but I need something that holds or it will fall flat which makes me grumpy . I’ve found I need to use mousse (Suave) on my wet hair, blow dry with a round brush and a paddle brush and finish with Tresemme aerosol hair spray #4. That combo will hold my hairstyle until bedtime and it’s never crunchy or sticky.

I have fine, wavy hair. If I want to wear it wavy vs straight, I need to use mousse and gel then air dry. It dries with a crunchy gel cast that I scrunch out with a tiny drop of hair oil. The technique is called "scrunch out the crunch" and gives me volume and definition. I use herbal essence mousse and garnier gel & hair oil and can tolerate the smell.

I have dual textured hair, patches of it is wiry, coarse and frizzy. Other parts are soft curls, and the parts in between are a combination of the two. I've learned to tame it by keeping it somewhat short, only washing 2 X per week and leave in conditioner has been a godsend.

Mine is definitely thinner. I’m 57 so menopause plus a nasty case of Covid with hair falling out a couple months later really changed my hair.
I had great hair back in the days of spiral perms.

The 80's & 90's really were the decades of hair, most people had lovely luxurious hair, even straight hair had pizzazz with artsy cuts and cool colors, there was also artful shaving and writing stuff like the girl in my neighborhood with U-2 carved into a mohawk fade and dyed pink.

No idea when there was a fashion decision to abandon hair but sheesh, I wish all the old formulations would be dusted off and returned, hair was shiny & glamorous & I miss that!

Last two trendy cuts I remember were the Rachel followed by the Karen, and for dudes there was the man-bun and the Grizzly Adams (which might have another name

Neither my wife or I use any "product" in our hair other than plain old shampoo to wash it. In my case, as a kid of the 1960's when Brill Creme was big for guys, product leaves stuff on my hair that makes it feel dirty.

It's that stuff that tickles the edges of your nostril when you breathe out through your nose I think

My hair is 100% gray. It can yellow so I looked for a remedy.
Empty out half of shampoo from bottle- save for refills at a later date.
In a separate container, mix 2 TBSP of baking soda with 1 cup of water - be sure it's mixed well.
Add baking soda/water mixture to shampoo in bottle. Shake well to mix and do the same before each use. Shampoo hair. Then condition with usual product. Yellow is gone and hair is silky with lots of body. Oh and no scent which I love!
