Just got planner - it's only for 2009?

I think the planner is beautiful but wouldn't it be a better use of dues to update them the way they update law books - send a paper insert with the new charts? just thinkin'

I got mine yesterday and was like ***???? I agree, what a waste of money. Maybe if you are one of those people still in the Stone Age you can request a booklet, else look it up online.

Ok...so I feel totally out of the loop, because I just looked at the points for 2010 for a June trip and saw the point change. I'm sure there was a thread on this and I must have missed it. But, what a bummer!! My 150 point contract will now only get me 5 nights at AKV in a 2 bedroom value and nothing else!! I'll have to buy and transfer points if I want to stay anywhere else. I could have sworn that when we bought, I specifically asked about points going up and they said they would not go up but that certain dates could get moved into different seasons therefore making them more points per night. But that's not what happened. June 1-10 is still in the Dream Season but a 2 bedroom at OKW has gone up 5 points per night for 2010. Can someone enlighten me?:confused3

We receieved our "planner" yesterday. Like I use the thing to plan. The points charts are on the website and there are several points calculators out there.

If we had to wait for the "planner" to arrive in order to actually plan our vacations, we'd all be in pretty bad shape.

Now, if they tossed in a couple of fastpasses, I'd be overjoyed at receiving it.

We haven't gotten ours yet. Is anyone else still waiting?

Bobbi

I thought the exact same thing.... we too are in southern ONT.

Just got mine in ohio today and saw 2009 only ---way to hide the point reallocation in the BACK POCKET! WOW! What a waste of paper....

This was announced in late January, there is a longggggg thread here:

I got mine today, I agree it's a waste. Not that much different than the last one. They should just send out new points charts, not the whole book.

I too was given this same pitch, and while I did not see a difference between 2008 and 2009, and increase is slight- 1 -3 point difference between certain ressies from 09 to 10, it concerns me that they will continue to slip these "minor" increases in to where the value of buying a time share is lost. Remember the "Pointologist" on the DVD who explains how the average cost of 7 vacations will give you vacations for years to come. Well, between maintenence fees and this sneaking in of a few points here and there each year and my contract wont have the same value, by my way of thinking....

My understanding is that they changed the point values for week nights and weekends (lessened the weekends and increased the week nights) but that the total number of points for a week remains the same. Therefore the points haven't exactly gone up. I'm not happy either, as we typically would plan five day trips and avoid the higher weekend points value.

I dont want to hijack this thread and it looks like theres another on this topic I need to read, but they did go up- for a one week stay the points have gone up 1 to 3 points. So if it was 285 its now 286, or 311 to 314..etc

There's a post a few back with a link to the long thread that I missed but have now read. We ALWAYS avoid weekends because of the high point cost so it has changed my June trip in a 2 bedroom by 25 points. That's a big difference in my opinion. I never have extra points lying around and with the old chart, I had enough for 5 nights at OKW in a 2 bd...now with the 2010 chart I'll need to transfer 25 points from another member and that will cost me around $250. So, I'm not happy about this at all:mad:

You are a bit out of the loop since there was a huge thread on this a few months ago. :goodvibes

Welcome to the new DVC. I'm a member of the group where my points will now get me less than they have for the past 15 years. Still debating whether or not to sell. BTW, don't expect to get much understanding or sympathy- many folks will actually benefit from the changes. I'm just not one of them. Also expect to be "schooled" excessively on why DVC has every right to reallocate and is supposedly obligated to do this.

I'm officially in the loop because I read the other thread but, it certainly doesn't make me feel better! And I'm also a member of your group where my points will get me less or I'll have to pay more to stay the same number of nights that I used to.

We lower point owners that usually do Sun-Thurs are really the ones that got kicked in the teeth by the points change. You have three options: add-on, stay fewer nights or drop your room type. I'm not real pleased myself.

This thread is getting off topic.

If anyone is interested in discussing the recent point reallocation, please do that in this thread. WARNING! It's very long, LOL.

Briefly, DVC recently did a point "reallocation" that mostly made the weekend nights (Friday & Saturday) cost less points and the week day nights cost more points.

The technical rule is that the total number of points to reserve a unit for the entire year cannot change. A unit is a group of rooms and is defined differently for each resort. It may be a group of rooms, a building, a portion of a building, etc.

An easy way to think of it is to add up the total number of points it would take to reserve every villa for every night of the year. DVC cannot change that total, but it can change the cost for specific nights, room sizes, seasons, etc. An increase has to be offset somewhere by a decrease so that the total does not change.

Have fun reading the point reallocation thread if you are interested in the discussion on the point reallocation.

Now, back to the original topic, please. :)

Otherwise,

I'm still waiting here in Georgia. I also agree that the big books are a waste of money -- we can get our Disney photo fix from DisneyFiles magazine, and all the other promotional email that they send us. (I think I've received 3 since other people have reported receiving their planners.) If we got a nice binder when we joined, and just got the new charts (or could print them out from the web site & put them in), I'd be happier. And it's completely ridiculous that they are six months late this year.
