This is in answer to mlwear about the lagoon view. We've never stayed at POLY with a garden view so I can't really compare. However, I don't see how anything could compare to a lagoon view. You can see Cinderella's castle from almost all of the lagoon view rooms (I believe you can - we've always been able to). Anyway, we've always been on the third floor and sleep with the curtains open. It's wonderful to roll over at night and see the castle in the distance or to wake up with the sun rising over the lagoon! It's sooooo beautiful and sooooooooo peaceful!!
Thank you so much for the advice. I'd love to know what others think/suggest. I think I may change the view from my room. Third floor, any reason? BUT...I must admit I am a bit concerned reading about the poor service. I hope to read reviews that service improves soon. It is a lot of money. I want what I'm paying for.

I guess I am a little surprised that so many here are getting this angry. I will start off by saying I have no reason to think the OP is not telling the complete truth. I will say that I can not get that upset about something that someone else experienced because too many times I know what really happened was not as bad as some make it (again not saying this is the case of this OP). I have even been there and seen a few instances where something happened and it was posted on here completely different than what happened.

My point is that people in here that were not there are getting outraged about something that did not happen to them and were not there so how can you judge the staff if you were not present. The OP is the one who has the right to be upset but I can not say that I am appalled by behavior I have not seen myself and I can not badmouth the staff that has been nothing but friendly and more than helpful during every visit.

Well the staff reads these boards often so I am sure they will get the message from all of you.

Thanks again Suzanne for your comments. I guess you did not expect this much response but that is the DIS for you.

Aloha

Thanks for the explanation. I have never heard of such a thing. Is that a regional term?

No, it's not a regional term. It's the correct term used by the brewing industry. :)

I stayed at Poly concierge last year and thouroughly used Tikimans website (thank you Steve). I have to say I was very unimpressed, that was my experience. I also am not a quiet person and our concierge was comped to us due to their scheduling mistakes. I think if you are paying for concierge you do deserve great treatment by the staff. If you are unhappy though you should definately voice your concerns while you're still there. The cost to stay at a Disney concierge is a pretty penny so you should get some perks (ie buckets and leis). This year I'm switching to Concierge 14th floor and AKL cl. I wish Steve had a website for them.

I wasn't impressed with my concierge stay either. I love the Tahiti - lagoon view. Concierge is a waste of my money and this post reinforces it. :)

When we arrived last June there was on CM working who was EXTREMELY friendly, she was the one who made sure that the kids got leis and pails, not the one who was helping me check in. The other two were efficient, but not overly friendly, so I can see where you are coming from. It was nothing that made me not want to stay there again, but you are right, not as friendly as the staff at the front desk. They were all but doing backflips to entertain us when we arrived!
Truly it didn't influence our stay, though, since we didn't require much help from the staff at the front desk, the pre-planning staff had done such a wonderful job for us. There was one guy there working at the desk who we did complain about, he needed to either get rid of his Palm Pilot or get a new job. He was there every morning with his nose in it, ignoring people waiting for help.
We did arrange to have surprises in the room for the kids, and to my surprise they were in the room when we arrived, I figured they would show up shortly after our check in.
We weren't in our room five minutes when there was a knock on the door and a birthday cake was delivered for DD. It was not requested or expected, but much appreciated.
The did have the same rule about alcohol when we were there, although the cm did give me a wine and a beer because she could see DH sitting with our daughter on his lap at a table, but she told me that the rule was one drink per guest at a time.
We had a garden view room on the third floor, the first room on the right. The view was just fine and we didn't really miss not having the lagoon view. We watched Wishes from the lounge anyway. It was a good location for us because it was very close to the third floor entrance to the lounge.
Overall, we had a terrific experience. Mousekeeping was fine, no towel animals, but no biggy. Turndown service included fresh towels and they usually freshened the room up a bit. I agree that it would be nice if the CMs at the front desk were a little more inspired, but that would be my only complaint.
We will be returning to the Poly concierge in December, the kids refused to go anywhere else!

Thanks for posting, goodferry! :) I am optimistic about my stay there, in 2 months :sunny:

I had similar experiences in that I found the pre-planning staff at the Poly Conc. much more friendly & helpful than the staff in the Conc. lounge & lobby.

We were lucky that Chef Dick was our regular Conc. Chef except for one or two nights of our stay. He was a real Gem. Other than him, tho, I didn't find the level of service/hospitality/friendliness that one would expect from a resort of this level & cost. Sorry, I know alot of people love the Poly, but that was my personal experience.

I also think that being upgraded to a Lagoon View does NOT make up for that lack of service & the poor attitude that the OP expressed she had encountered. I know folks like to defend their favorites, but there is no excuse for poor service & attitude.

Well, I am the OP and I just wanted to clarify that I am NOT trying to pursuade people one way or the other with their choice - I am just posting what happened to me, the good and the bad for people the use as a reference. I looked up many very good and very bad posts about the Poly concierge on this website and the very bad did not sway me to change my mind. There could be someone who stayed the same time as me who loved their experience - not one person will have the same experience so don't use mine to change your plans or your thoughts on concierge. It could have been that my researching actually let me be a little letdown. Maybe the "uh yes" at check in really wouldn't have bothered me as much if I didn't hear others getting offered a golf cart, then walking in with the front desk CM's ready with lei's and already knowing their name (getting radio ahead) and been offering juice etc... Honestly if I haven't read posts of this I wouldn't have expected any of that and in turn that is probably my fault for hoping it would happen to us as well. However that said, I believe that first time concierge guests should be treated with the same respect that guests who have been there 10 times.

As far as the alocohol, I am not trying to disagree with it nor would I fight it. I never knew it when I asked as it was our first time asking for a beer. I was told she could not give one person two beers, I explained my DH was putting my DD to bed and the other was for him but only because I didn't know it was a law - I just thought they didn't want to give someone 2 beers each which wasn't the case for me. I didn't want her to think I was trying to grab 2 beers before it closed just for me, which I am sure others have tried. Once she would have said, we are not allowed to give anyone more than one beer per our policy law etc..., I would have said okay - no problem. I think others (from what I heard in the lounge) were complaining about it and I think she took her repeated explanations attempts out on me because I was the last person of the night and she probably had to explain it over and over again that night. Like I said, explaining that at check in would be a big help for them and their guests.

Also I was very impressed with the pre planning and the food was very good so I am not bashing concierge as a whole like some people are taking my original post. For the person who asked about breakfast there is no oatmeal or fruit danish. I think 1 or 2 days, they have cheese danish. The bagels were not full sized, probably about 4" across. Not a big deal to me as they tasted the same as any other bagel. There was a toaster to toast them as well as jelly and PB to spread. cereals were fruit loops, cheerios and raisin bran in the turn. They always had bannanas, apples and oranges all day and they were fresh.

I will say this that I probably have not mentioned. Many of the CM's from the front desk would come up to help clean up the lounge here and there. I was amazed how many people left food and dishes and spills wherever and left which I think adds to the CM's feeling rushed. The one morning I was putting my bowl on the tray to the side and threw away my trash and the CM was so grateful like I was the exception rather than the norm. That surprised me but I did notice others who spilled cereal, milk, etc.. and then just walked away!!! Although I think the lounge is wonderful and the food good, I never expected full service with people picking up after me. I don't know if others do or you should but I think just putting your own plate or bowl away would help them a lot.

Feel free to ask any questions - I will answer honestly

Seaspray,

I hope your trip goes well for you. I will say that we were always treated well even our first visit to concierge and that time we did not even pay for it and no one had a clue as to who I was then because the web page did not exist so hopefully you will have the same experience we did.

Also I do record some of the complaints (including this original post) and send them to the concierge staff to review the issue and hopefully address it. They are very eager to hear what goes wrong so they can fix it.

I agree with joliesmom about voicing your concerns while you are there.

Aloha

Maybe all this information and the stuff on my web page is doing more harm than good. Seems that it creates high expectations. I have thrown around the idea of shutting down the site or limiting it to a few pages that give some facts and photos.

Just as a side note, I had the beer a few times and I thought it was great but I guess I am the only one who seems to not have issues with concierge. The funny thing is that I only do concierge because I enjoy seeing the staff every visit. From the first visit they have made us feel like family.

I think I have said enough on this subject.

I think I am done on the DIS for a while. I don't mean to argue with anyone.

Aloha

Steve

Steve: Thank you for your response. You definitely don't sound like you are arguing, and I truly apologise if my response sounded as if I were attacking you personally.

Oh Steve don't do that. Your site has made such a big difference in planning my trips and the trips that I help other people. My first onsite trip was 3 years ago. I started at the ASM and changed my ressies 5 times. Because of your site we stayed at the Poly and had the best vacation ever. Since then I have helped family and friends plan about 20 trips. Most have stayed at the Poly and used your site to help in planning. You have no idea what a difference you have made with all the info you have provided. I wish that all the resorts had this kind of site to gather info. Every trip that my friends and family have been on they had a great trip. But there was a few little things that happened. But they were addressed while they were there. Like my cousin just got back 2 weeks ago and half way through their trip the family from you know were checked in. They were up at 5 yelling and screaming and bouncing a ball off the walls till late in the night. My cousins called down to be moved. The resort was full so they could not move them. Called the next night and the same resort was full. They got a call from the manager and were reimbursed for 1 night stay. ($400) When they went down the next morning for breakfast at O'hana's. (They were on the Dining package). The server told them that their breakfast was on the manager. They were very suprised. The loud family was only there for 3 days. So they got lucky it was not all week. Anyway the Poly management was on top of their problem. Alot of times things can be made better when you let them know about the problems when you are there. Don't flame me I know some of the poster here got no response from Disney when there was a problem which is a shame. But alot of times they take care of things. Anyway Steve please don't shut down your site. It has made a differance for alot of people and I don't want new Diser to miss it. Thanks alot Steve. Brenda

I agree. I just found your site this morning. This is my first time planning a Disney trip and it was so helpful. I just bookmarked it this morning, so I hope you keep it up and as is.
I was feeling a little worried about staying at Poly CL after reading only a few posts (just found this forum a couple of days ago). Your comments have made me feel that it was a great choice.
I am glad that you are able to contact Disney about problems you read about on this board. Perhaps, management just isn't aware and the feedback will resolve issues.

Steve - I hope you don't leave the DIS or change your website. Even tho my experience with the Poly is different from yours, I think you are a valuable resource here & on your site. You certainly helped me alot when I was planning our trip to the Poly.
I don't find your posts argumentative at all. I hope mine didn't come across that way. If it did, I apologize.
Please stick around......

Thanks for your report Suzane74. We were at the Poly the same time as you. We loved it as well. The PreSchoolers you refer to in the pool could have been my DD5 who couldn't get enough of it. She loved the 0 entry and the slide, even though the slide was dark she still loved it.

Aloha Cousin

Steve - I'm with SeaSpray. I think I got a little uptight last night about this whole thing but have cooled off today. As I said before, we've stayed Poly concierge several times and have always been treated royally. When I hear a report, such as the one we've all been responding to, it just makes me nervous that things are changing!

But, it's a new day now...I'm not going to worry and when the time comes for our next trip I'm sure it'll be as wonderful as our past trips. If it's not, we'll deal with that issue at the time but I'm not going to worry in advance. (I've always been a "what if" type of person, though!)

Your site is a big help. Please don't change it!

Just thought you would like know that I spoke with several people while at the Poly both CMs and guests and you are a pretty popular dude with them. One of our discussion points always seemed to be how beatiful the Polynesian was and about all the tips, tricks and things to do while staying at the resort. Most of the people I spoke with refered to you and your website all the time.

Maybe you should start charging royalties and for access to your webstie, although I don't think us Disers would like that!

Thanks for your great site! It really helped us prepare and made a difference for our trip.
