Just got back - Poly concierge 4/29 to 5/4 review

I hope they lock this thread. I know it did not start out meaning to upset anyone, but apparently it has. Suzanne, your post was very factual and I thank you. I am a die hard Polynesian fan, do not look for perfection, but simply enjoy a very special vacation at a beautiful resort.

I love to here Tikiman's take on the Polynesian. He states things as he sees them...nothing more and nothing less. I always look forward to his comments. Naturally I also enjoy his fab website. Keep up all of the excellent work you do Tikiman. I really enjoy you taking your own time and keeping up your great website for all of us. Thanks to Tara and tikibaby too!

Suzanne - I enjoyed your post and summary of your trip. You must have been thrilled when you found out that you were upgraded to lagoon view. That is the best view in all of WDW, in my opinion. I don't get offended at all by people that share negative comments with their experience at the resort. I don't agree that the "service is horrid", and I know you did not report that. I did take exception to the post that labeled others as "Poly Protectors". I don't think that is fair.

Our family stayed LVC from 4/16 to 4/25. The concierge building was crowded, and I did notice that the CM that checked us in at the concierge desk, also helped out in the lounge upstairs, cleaning tables and restocking food. Maybe management has cut back a little on staff?? In any event, we didn't experience an atttitude from any of the staff, and overall had a great vacation, and will return as soon as we can. Thanks Suzanne for your original post and honest review of your stay.

I have to say that I am amazed at how different everyone's experiences seem to have been at the Poly Concierge this last month. Is anyone else feeling that way?

After many, many visits to the Poly LV Conc. area, we have also noticed a general decline in service and ambience. Specifically, the CMs have been terse and downright unfriendly at times(and we only utilize them for check-in and out) and the housekeeping has been less than stellar. Our room had a lot of hair around the bath, missing lightbulbs and non-working outlets(upon arrival). There has been an upswing in the BVDs and bathrobe groups as well as the heaping tray back to the room families. There definitely were times when offerings were slim, partially due to greedy guests who were clearly using the lounge for full meals. About a year ago we had requested a non-smoking room and were put on the first floor. The family next to us smoked inside their room. I actually asked the father(a very nice man) ifsmoking was allowed in the first floor rooms(it is not) and he said that the CM had told him that he could for the day until a smoking room was found for his group the next day. I asked the front desk and yes, they said they have to do this on rare occasions. I don't know- I still love Poly Concierge but it seems more like a factory than a luxury hotel sometimes. And for those wondering, I did speak with a manager who was very nice but offered no assurances that the situation would change. At the rates that the Poly is charging now, I really do expect better. Tikiman posted some replies to this thread and was really blasted by several posters. If it's of any interest so those of you that seemed to want to personally attack him on this subject...it looks as though he has taken it seriously enough to stop his website. If you go to the website it now just says "Tikiman has retired!"

Please don't flame me because of my comments. But I think it's pretty bad that some posters would get so nasty as to cause someone who does such a good job of informing us - AT NO COST TO US - to want to stop his website! One poster even made comments about Tikiman getting special treatment based on who he is and the acquaintances that he has made. Boy, if that doesn't scream "JEALOUS!" I doubt that he gets treated any differently than the rest of us by the majority of the CMs at the POLY. Maybe he does get a little special treatment from those CMs that do actually know who he is. But so be it. He just happens to be someone who loves the POLY and loves to share that info with us. If he doesn't have negative comments about the POLY maybe it's because he hasn't had any negative experiences. That is a possibility, you know!!!

I just hope that Tikiman is continuing to read these threads and will realize that there are many of us that still value his site!!!!

Very well said gepetto !! We love the Poly and will stay no where else, but personally I am sick to death of the "Poly Protectors" and they know who they are. These people defend the Poly as if it was their personal resort. These boards are about the sharing of our experiences good or bad, but people go nuts when something bad is said. What everyone forgets or doesn't think about is that Steve aka "Tikiman" is somewhat of a celebrity and personally knows a large number of the Poly staff on a first name basis because of this and because of his status with his web page and constant defense of the Poly he is a perfect advertisement for the resort and they know this therefore he gets special treatment that us otherwise unknowns would not get. That dosen't make him a bad guy, Just special at the poly! (More power to him) But it dosen't always work that way for the rest of us.
I do hope that the "PPs" take this post with all of the love and charity that it is being given with. It was just my thoughts on the matter. Good or bad!

What I find very interesting is that you just have 3 posts under this screen name. Seems like you a regular here and didn't want to post under your real screen name.

So what if some people are Poly protectors as you put it. There are many many people that defend their favorite resort. Everyone just has to read between the lines to filter out what is important to them in a resort. Same with restaurants, etc

If everyone posting the attacks have all this time on your hands as to worry about this and letting it bother you this much, you really need to get a life

If someone states a complaint about any resort on the DIS, they should be prepared for someone to step in and act like they were asking for the moon. Instead of just saying "thanks for sharing your experience," someone either belittles their complaints or tries to argue them into being satisfied with the service they received. It's some kind of bizarre, defensive pack mentality.

I thought suzanne's post was very nice and made some great points that the CM's can improve upon when tikiman forwards the info, and I hope that tikiman gets some perks for all that free advertising and that Buzz gets some perks at CSR. They have put a lot of work into those websites.

Agreed, Debbie. I actually didn't think the OP or Tikiman were off the mark-- the OP rightfully protested that certain things didn't happen and that concierge was not up to the standards that she expected, given the comments here. Tikiman thanked her for her opinion, questioned if those services were supposed to be offered in the first place, and sent off the suggestions to the Poly. If the OP was entitled to her opinion, I see no reason why others who had a good stay or want to clarify about expectations can't post. Particularly if the whole reason for posting in support of..."Poly Protesters", so to speak, would be to counteract the "Poly Protectors" and give the DIS a good balance and let people see what they should and should not expect. Notably, for all the people getting up in arms, the OP and Tikiman seem to be on good terms.

Accusing someone of petulance and condescenscion (ironic, maybe?) has gone well beyond discussing the issue. This thread should be closed.
