Just got back from OKW!

[See bottomQUOTE=gertiesquidge;43320467]Welcome back and glad you had a great time :thumbsup2

We were on the same return flight and could not believe the idiocy and selfishness of the family who thought it was ok to bring their chicken pox infected child onto a crowded flight :confused3:mad::confused3

Hubby is recovering from a serious bout of pneumonia, and has been told to try to avoid infections, which this family made impossible!!! I couldn't sleep the whole flight for worrying about him, just waiting for him to inevitibly come down with shingles now

I think the stupid family should have been made to stand at the plane door and apologise personally to each and every person on the flight!! I just hope and pray that any pregnant ladies or medically fragile people on the flight arok and don't suffer any serious consequences from the family's selfishness.

Sorry about the rant I'm just so worried about Hubby I can't help it :sad1:

Best wishes
Sorry to hear this. I am sure they knew tht their son had it and were fully aware of the consequences in other words would not hv been able to
fly:scared1:bloomin idiots. Can I just say tht chicken pox and shingles is the same virus. If someone has had chickenpox they hv immunity. However if they had a mild dose of chickenpox eg a few spots they can develop it again. You cannot catch shingles it is something that reactivates from the varicella zoster virus when someone is already run down stressed etc.if a pregnant woman has had chicken pox then the baby is protected from the the mothers antibodies.someone can catch chickenpox from a patient with shingles IF they come into contact with the blisters.
Sorry to get technical but I used to get asked this question a lot when I worked for nhs direct.
Its still worth getting some medical advice though. Im sure there were lots on the plane who hadnt had chickrnpox and im sure within the next 7 days they may get a bit itchy. U can check www.patientuk. Co.uk.glad I was on another flight.

we are just back from OKW too
first time staying there but it won't be our last
missing breakfast at Olivia

I too would love to hear more/see some photos of OKW. We have booked it for Nov 2012 and can't wait. Have heard mainly good things but the occasional negative (like with most things) so would appreciate more info!

We just booked for a second time at OKW for free dining next year. IMO it's the best deal around for us Brits - full free dining in a deluxe villa resort at moderate prices. We thought the buses were pretty good there and we enjoyed the quiet and scenic location (except for the first night when the room below us decided to hold a party on their balcony till 3am or 4am - not great when its first night and you want an early night)

Still we are going back - its the best deal for those with older kids and you only want to pay for a studio as the room as 2 queen beds - the only one of the DVC's that has - DD is now too old (I think - although it's allowed - to sleep on a sofa bed) - rules out the other resort with this deal (SSR) - for us anyway.

So sorry to hear about all your added stress in the return flight home. Gertisquidge is absolutely correct - someone can get chicken pox from shingles if they haven't had it as a child, but you only get shingles if you've had chicken pox previously and are run down, stressed etc so your DH shouldn't suffer any further complications from the thoughtless, selfish family who put their own needs above the other 250 passengers on the flight. :confused3 I had avery mild dose of chicken pox many years ago (only spots in my mouth and on my legs below my knees) then had a belter of a dose when DD was 18 months old. Spots everywhere (except my throat and below my knees) and very unwell. Had shingles about 5 years later - no fun either!

Hope you're able to make your flight home a dim and distant memory and are able to focus on your fantastic holiday instead.:)

At least you can attempt to post from your iphone. :) My Blackbeery is soooo slow I lose the will to live waiting for it to do anything

I have uploaded my holiday snaps toinght so will put onto photobucket so you can see a one bedroom not that is 100% tidy as did it on the last day.I can recommend building 16 it was excellent and although I had none of my requests it actually turned out a lot better . 2 min walk to HH and bus stop.Love this resort. Didnt buy at OKW simply because of the offers us UK citizens have and because of its size would have more of a chance of getting in there than say BW or WLV where our home resort is.

I had the pork chop at Kona and once again (had a steak last time and it was burnt) it hadn't been cooked properly! It was almost raw around the bone. We've decided that we won't be going there again.
