Just finished The DaVinci Code, anyone else read it?

They cast Tom Hanks as the lead. So not how I picture Robert Langdon. I picture maybe a cleaned up Kiefer Sutherland, or well to be honest I always pictured the guy that played Rupert Giles on buffy the vampire slayer I think his name is Andrew Head. Or maybe someone like George Clooney.

Johnny Depp is to much of a characer actor to play Robert Langdon.

I loved DaVinci Code. I have since read Angles & Demons and Deception Point. My sister is reading Digital Fortress right now so I will read that one when she is done. I have also started reading books related to the whole secret society, grail lore stuff. I recently finished Holy Blood, Holy Grail and am currently reading The Templar Revelation.

As for trying to find pictures...they have come out with a new version of DaVinci code that includes pictures of what is discussed in the book. I picked it up for my Mom at Costco. It is pretty cool!!

I am looking forward to the movie...I just hope they do the book justice.

Have any of you cracked the codes in the book? You can go to www.danbrown.com and try. It is fun.

What is the DaVini Code about? Many people at my Club are reading it.

I just got the illustrated version for my MIL for Christmas. Now that I have received it, I wish I had ordered two! It is really neat. I liked the book a lot. We read it in our book club and most of us really enjoyed it.

Tom Hanks is waaaaayyyy off. I think, oh what's his name???? Y'know, the Bourne Supremacy guy would work a lot better. Though not quite old enough I guess. Still, not Tom Hanks. Maybe Tom Cruise.....

attempting to read it. I am an avid reader, but not really liking DaVinci Code at all. Guess I am in the minority. I typically read Christian fiction, I might sway over to Harry Potter books (shhhh, dont tell my church) or dog training manuals (yes, very exciting) LOL. Guess I will try to get past page 11 again.

I am speechless! That was amazing!!!!! :wizard:

Read it, didn't like it. The writing was really bad, that's the first I've read of his books, and I think it lacks alot. Also, I couldn't buy into the premise, it's just absurd to me, so I couldn't even get past all the inaccuracies and absurdities within it, you know? It got to a point in which I just laughed at his claims... it was hard to get wrapped up into it and such, it was just too unbelieveable. I know its a work of fiction, but it was poorly written as a book of fiction, so it was hard to see it as that even.

I'm glad I read it, though. It's been a hot book, and I've had a lot of conversations with people about it - I like to be informed. =) I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I am waiting for the movie in 2006, just not a reader but I hear this is a good book.:D

I have about 100 pages to go, and will try and get back to it again. :guilty: Who is picked to play the Girl? Tom Hanks I think is a little old myself.

If you enjoy Christian fiction, I don't think you will like the DaVinci Code. I liked the beginning because it was an exciting murder mystery, but I found it isconsistant with what I know of the Bible to be true, so it lost its plausibility.

I loved the Da Vinci Code!!! I could not put that book down and then I when I finished it I didin't want it to be over. I also can not picture Tom Hanks as the lead in the movie. I think a younger Harrison Ford type would be great. Maybe Jude Law?

Our church's book club read this in the spring and I read it thru in nearly a day. I couldn't put it down. I found it fascinating and why not plausible? Jesus was a jewish man in his thirties before being crucified. Why is in inconceivable that he wouldn't have married and even have had children? Married to Mary Magdalene? Maybe not, but I didn't find it completely ridiculous. Even our priest (Episcopal, not Catholic) agreed it would be reasonable that Jesus was married. To imagine that there is a bloodline back to Jesus is remarkable. I found it more unbelievable that the entire book's events take place in one day.

I'll have to read thru the beginning again to get a mind's eye image of Robert. I don't think of Tom Hanks but I don't remember Robert being particularly young either. How about Gary Sinise? I'm on a Sinise kick right now (can't wait til our CPP w/him)!

I read it in one day, and enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it was a great book. Definitely did not live up to the hype about it! I majored in religion and found a lot of inconsistencies and such that bugged me. Like, that other guy says, I think, that the church leaders voted on Jesus' divinity and it was a "close" vote? (DH has my copy so I'm going on memory here!) It was SUCH a close vote, something like 300-2. It just bugs me that such a popular book is wrong about so many religious things - I hope that people read beyond Brown's agenda and actually learn more about the formation of early Christianity!

Maybe it's just me, but how can "divinity" be voted on in the first place?

Just bought the "Illustrated" version for DS16. He read "Angels & Demons" already and is looking forward to reading Da Vinci Code. By the way, both the regular AND Illustrated versions are 50% off this weekend, at Borders books! From today till Monday, I believe.
