So we went down to WDW in may and took the tour and just fell in love with the DVC idea! We just decided to take the plunge after contemplating for the past month. Have 2 under 2 and luv disney and plan to travel atleast once a year. After reading all the posts I am worried why some people don't seem to like SSR. I would love to hear from some people that do.
Also time of year??? We were planning on going first 2 weeks in Dec. Now I read that this is a busy DVC time??? Can go Nov or Jan too? any info or tips on DVC would be great! are buying 220 SSR With a Oct use year! and am getting oct 05 points as well?
Do some of you think that it is better to rent over buy?
Any info is appreciated
Thanks :confused3

Read the thread at the following link and you'll see plenty of happy SSR experiences!

The time after Thanksgiving until a few days before Christmas are some of the most popular weeks of the year for DVC owner reservations. A combination of low point season plus the holiday decorations make this a very, very popular time. But I am confident that you can book at your home resort at that time if you do so at the 11 month mark.

November before Thanksgiving week or January would be much, much easier to book either at your home resort or another DVC resort at the 7 month mark. But keep in mind that your little ones will be in school all too soon and November or January might not be options for them for many years.

Do some of you think that it is better to rent over buy?

Check out this thread at the following link for many great tips, including that kind of discussion.

Yes, Welcome Home! You will love SSR! I haven't stayed there, but I have visited. We own at OKW and LOVE it there! If you read a lot on these boards you can convince yourself that OKW and SSR "stink", but I promise you, they are great resorts! Plus, with SSR you get the extra 12 years - great with small kids. We have 2 dds, one 4 and one 5 months, and DVC accomodations are perfect. We refuse to stay in a regular hotel room anywhere we go now after being so spoiled! We need the washer/dryer, kitchen and extra space to relax. Have fun!!!

Congratulations on your purchase!

We own at BCV but stayed at SSR last time. I think you have a super resort! I love the furnishings and the layout. You have a nice desk with HSIA in the MBR which I liked. Plus, you have the newer sofa beds. We used Disney transportation and were well pleased. I love the quiet and peaceful atmosphere in the evening when we would come back from the parks. It's a lovely resort to walk around. I would not concern myself with bad postings. There are a lot of tastes out there and with all the DVC choices, we can all stay where we like best. Enjoy your new home!!

Welcome Home!

We love SSR and I think you will too! We have also enjoyed BWV and OKW -- but for us we still feel that SSS is our true home and the place we look forward to visiting the most! Enjoy the planning and enjoy reading The Disboards!

WELCOME HOME!!! Don't worry about negative posts - I had the same worry after we bought BCV sight unseen. DVC owners are very loyal to their own special favorite resort. We now own at SSR as well as BCV. SSR is a beautiful resort and I'm sure you'll love it. We have now stayed at all of the DVC resorts in WDW except for WL and they each have their own unique features, but we've had great vacations at all of them. Of course, none of them compares to the Beach Club Villas (oops, my bias is showing). :rotfl:

Welcome Home
My familiy loves SSR its a beautifull resort, all of them are! Dont make any judgements from negative post decide for yourself, but I think your gonna love it. :cool1:

Welcome Home.

I like reading this board to read the frequent bashing and praise of all the DVC resorts. We bought back in Oct '04 and I've been counting the days since then to our first trip home in Oct '06 at SSR. We've got 6 days at SSR and 2 days at BCV lined up for this trip. We really wanted to try our home resort, but also get a couple days in the Boardwalk area (our only other long trip to WDW was at the Boardwalk hotel). I have to say that I am really looking forward towards both parts of the upcoming trip. I don't think you'll regret it. Hopefully you won't wait 2 years for your first trip like we did.

As some have said, don't worry about the negative posts. We just bought in May at SSR. It is beautiful (but hey, I live in RI and anything but snow is beautiful to me!!) Our first trip "home" in Sept. will be at BWV. That's what's nice about DVC. You have the option to stay where you want. Have fun!! :thumbsup2

We brought SSR in May of 2005.

On our first trip in October 2005, we stayed at SSR. It was a beautiful location. I liked that we could walk to Downtown. :cool1:

But... :confused3

It rained for like 2 days (hurricane winds) and this where the problem is. Because of the size of SSR. You have to go outside to get to the marketplace in the main lobby. At the other DVC resorts except OKW, you can walk thru the building to get to the market.

Also the buildings hallways are exposed to the weather. It was a rough 2 days and everything including the halls were wet.

But I still love my DVC membership but when I buy my resale. I want BWV. I hope to purchase next year. :thumbsup2

Good in theory, but when hurricane weather strikes, that is severe enough to close the parks and put WDW in "hurricane mode" the restaurants etc at the resorts close anyway....you are requested to remain in your room. Box lunches may be available, but other than that they advise flks to stock up before the storms hit.

I was there last year during a hurricane event. It hit late night and they closed the park in the morning and didn't open till after 2 pm.

But as far as I am concerned there is nothing worst then being trapped in a studio with 2 1/2 year with no were to run because all the halls are open to the elements. If I was a BCV or BWV, we could have at least walked around the hotel.

But don't get me wrong I still love my DVC. I just prefer a more in-closed hotel.

Some are defensive of their home resorts. That can come across as negative comments toward other resorts.

Don't fret about it. I've heard lots of good things and positive comments about SSR.
