Hey guys longtime lurker. Taken the dvc tour 4 times. Just put in a BLT resale contract.:). Anyway kid in college. Probably will not close until August. The contract has banked points expire feb 2012. Anybody got any ideas on how to get a trip in before then. Don't laugh we were trying to go dec 9 for up to 7 days. Please no jabs. Anybody got any creative ideas? She will be back in school by the time we close, probably. This is not a big deal for us. We had been looking for a long time. A trip to not loose the points would be a perk.
Btw love the honesty here. Great site.

Could you get in a trip before she heads back to college in January? I know we have a trip scheduled for that time (plus my husband and son are both running the marathon). We we get a trip, they run a marathon, son goes back to school a few days after the trip is over and I retire about two weeks later. Looks like a good month for us.

We closed on our 2nd BLT contract and finally received the points into our account late September of 2011. We had 160 points that needed to be used by March 1. We took a chance, booked a fantastic airfare for Dec 30-Jan 4 and booked cash for BCV with a 25% discount. Then I called every day to piece together any open rooms. Long story short, we ended up with a 1 BD for NYE and a 2 BD for the next three nights - all on points! We certainly bit nails, but in CAN happen if you check every day (multiple times, like I did ).

The Dec trip might not work out, but you should have no problem booking something for early January, depending on when your kid has to report back to school. It just might not be at BLT. Also, if at that point it looks like the points are going to go to waste, you may want to consider renting them out either on your own or by using a point broker.

Oh, and congrats on your purchase! :)

Can you piece together reservations a night at a time? Number 2 if I have feb use year what is the deadline to bank 2012 points. She goes back jan 9 th. we are not picky on sites. What do you think the chances are we could get a 1 bedroom somewhere say the 1-7 of January if we get our points in September?
Thanks for the help.

The first week of January might be especially difficult this year because New Year's falls on a Tuesday, so many school systems aren't going back to school until Monday the 6th.

Feb UY banking deadline is Sept 30th. If you're willing to do a move or 2 I think you should be able to get a trip. And you might find something at a single location if you have a little flexibility on dates. Most likely it will be SSR.

If the points are already banked from 2011, you can't bank then again into 2012. But 2012 points can be banked into 2013 and you can avoid a rush to use them.

As soon as you get your points, call or go online and BE FLEXIBLE. SSR (Saratoga Springs Resort) is fantastic and seems to have lots of open times (because it has LOTS of rooms)! It wouldn't be tragic to book there. It's our favorite. Worst case, wait list. Every day, someone on Dis posts that their wait list came through.

Welcome to the club!

Kat4disney. That was going to be my next question. One of the disney sights has a schedule for UY deadlines and it said july 31 for 100% and september 31 for 50%. Wasn't really sure what that meant. Anyway the deadline to bank is sept 31 for feb UY and I could bank all of my 2012 points , correct?
Thanks for the help

The one with different %s is the old rule. The current rule would give you a single banking deadline of Sep 30 for a Feb UY contract. Slightly less confusing than before :)

Like what others have said, as long as these points are current 2012 points and not banked point in 2012 from 2011, then you can bank them until Sep 30.

Sounds like you have 2011 points that are already banked into 2012. At least those points cannot be banked again, you CAN bank the 2012 points but the banked 2011 points will expire Jan 31 2013.

Your best bet is to check availability as soon as you can. If you can't find anything, maybe consider renting out the points for a slight discount. At least you'll get some money back for them, they don't have to go to waste.

You might find availability during the times you are interested if you are willing to do a split stay, maybe even moving twice.

Thanks. That pretty much the situation 160 points banked from 2011 160 from 2012 that can be banked and clean after that. I guess I will try to piece a trip together sometime during the december break. I guess my best bet would be the week after the new year. For you guys that have done this a while are all the villas usually full during the first 2 weeks of december or is it just the more popular units? I have no delusions of BLT or probably even the BWV or BCV but are the other usually full as well that time of year? Also I see a lot of people piecing together stays. Are these just done on multiple reservations and then stay on the wait list for a single reservation if possible? I usually have plenty of notice so this is not going to be a common issue for me I just would prefer not to loose the 2011 points if I can help it.
Thanks for the input

Generally in a case like yours you would book whatever is available to secure all your nights, hoping that you can limit it to one move. December is a busy time, points are low and with decorations and holiday parties it's usually pretty crowded. If you can get say 3 nights at one resort and 4 at another, you can waitlist to get all 7 at one resort but the likelyhood of 3 or 4 nights coming through are slim. However, if you have to do 3 nights at one resort, 3 at another, and then 1 night somewhere else, you would want to waitlist the 1 night so at least you aren't moving a 3rd time.

As for what may be available, SSR, OKW and AKV are usually the last to book up. I think if you could pull off a split stay at 2 of those resorts booking only 3 months out you've done pretty well. You might find yourself with 4,5 or 6 of the 7 nights available, and no availability anywhere for 1 night. In this case you could always do a cash night somewhere and waitlist, if the waitlist comes through for the one night just cancel the cash reservation.

I'd reserve what ever you can and wait list what you want. Also check the member site periodically as there are reports of wait lists not being filled as soon as there is a canceled so it is up for grabs in online booking. The weekend after new years is the marathon and it is crowded.

I'm in a similar situation. Just went to Disney for ROFR on a Feb UY contract. It has 60 banked 2011 pts that I am considering a potential loss. Might be able to rent or transfer but I am not counting on it.

Best case we close in August some time but could easily stretch to Sept. We asked the sellers to bank the 2012 pts because 60 pts in a short window to use or lose is one thing. I wasn't willing to gamble 260 in that manner.

We closed the end of April and booked a week at SSR for the end of June as soon as we closed. Switched 5 of the 7 nights to a treehouse when one came open. Just got back from the vacation (a bit damp, but still fun).

As long as you don't want a truly peak time (Christmas to New Years, for example), I think you should be able to use the points.
