I didn't see the "bickering" thread, but I have stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza a couple of times and really enjoyed it. We got one of the King suites, and we had a big bedroom with a king, a separate living room that was spacious, and a huge bathroom with a two person jacuzzi in it.
Since our stay, the RP has been completely renovated due to hurricane damage. It's been closed for over a year now, and the old decor was very nice, but the new is even nicer from the pictures I've seen.
The positives are large rooms, great location to Downtown Disney and the Disney Marketplace. You can walk there in about 10 minutes. There are also lots of restaurants just outside of Disney there at the Crossroads, about a minute drive. There's quick access to I-4, so arrival, departure, and travel outside of Disney will be very easy. There's also restaurants in the hotel itself, which comes in handy when you're tired.
The negatives are that the bus service from there takes about a half hour or more to get to the parks. We drove after the first time, but if you don't have a car, prepare for 30-45 minutes of driving. Another negative, at least for me,was how far my car was from the room. That's just a peeve of mine, since we tend to carry our gear in and out of the hotel, and always need something from the car!
The only other negative would be if you have kids with you. It's not one of the more kid-friendly hotels, imo. It just has a more "grown up" feel than the other Disney hotels, but most kids would never notice that, so maybe it's not really a negative. It just seems more adult-ish to me, but I guarantee that kids are more than welcome there.
I'd definitely stay there again. Hope that helps.
