Hi All,

My dh, dd8 and I are going to WDW for a b-day trip (dd turning 9 on 1/2) from Jan. 1-6 and staying at BWV. We thought, for fun, we'd look into flying down to Orlando on NYE day and had thought we'd stay off-site, as I had checked all sites (Travelocity, WDW website, etc) about a month ago and there were no value rooms available. Well, I checked Travelocity again today, and imagine my surprise when I was able to book Pop for that night!! Yay!!

We've never stayed at Pop, although we have spent a night at ASM, and we've stayed at the Poly and the WL. I'm so excited to be spending NYE at WDW--I don't think we'll go into the parks (too crowded), but we might try to book dinner at one of the resorts. Anyway, I didn't care where we stayed, but I've heard fun things about Pop. What can you tell me? I'm so curious now!!!

Thanks!
Counting down to our b-day trip to WDW....

We are also arriving at POP 12/31 (in the afternoon). We won't be going to a park that day and in fact, not sure what we are doing that night. I read on DIS that on NYE you can sit down by the POP lake and watch 3 sets of fireworks that evening. That might be something you might want to consider. We are thinking about going to the Poly and watching the MK fireworks fromthe beach and then the water pageant.

Our vacation was to start during the week too but we saw that the holiday fell on the weekend and we are going too - staying at Sports - we aren't going into a park either!

But will still have a blast.

I booked back in August and POP was full for NYE so I had to get A S Sports that night and POP for the rest of the week. But, since we have not stayed at either, it is a good way to check both hotels out.

It scared me a little that it was full, made me wonder if it will be really crowded that week.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I'm hoping that the crowds will thin out after the holiday (people have said that by the 3rd things are calmer), but who knows!

riu girl: I didn't even know that Pop had a lake! It sounds fun to be able to see three different sets of fireworks, so that might be what we do. I've also thought about the Poly (great minds...), and I've been considering going to AKL for dinner, too. Can't wait!

Kande: You might want to call WDW reservations and see if Pop is available--then you wouldn't have to switch resorts! I was really surprised when I was able to book it through Travelocity, 'cause I couldn't a month ago...

Its safe to say from Christmas to New Years it will be more than really full - it will be mobbed...afterwards not so bad.

We are booked at the Pop from 12/30 thru 01/07
dh, dd age9 , ds age 7 and myself.

We booked 2 nights at the higher price (i think around $139 a night) and then booked 6 nights at the lower season price (around $77 i think) with the MYW with dining and 8 nights tickets.

Doing it this way saved us over $400 (the $50 a night difference between checking in to the hotel during low season rather than high season)

We may have to check out of our room and into another within the same resort but hopefully POP staff can figure a way for us to stay in one spot.

We are keeping our eyes open for a discounted rate at a deluxe resort and then will consider moving for the last 6 nights however for now we are quite satisfied with what we have booked.

Can't wait!!!

We did the same photonut, booked at holiday rate for Dec 31 $119 plus tax and then at CAA value rate $62 plus tax for Jan 1 - Jan 8. It really does make a big difference $ wise.
Overall, I think we saved about $434 US by splitting the reservation.
We will purchase 7 day base tickets once we arrive on Dec 31.

When you called to book the double reservation did they seem to understand what you were doing at disney res?
When I called the first time I got a Disney CM that didn't want to assist in what I was asking for. I told her politely that I needed to hang up and call back.
I called back the next day and got a CM that knew exactly what to do...called it a continuing reservation.
Then...to make matters more complicated we decided to add the MYW with dining so had to call back again. Thought we could just modify the reservation but we had to cancel and start all over. SO...we ended up losing a little with the US $ exchange (since deposit was already charged and now refunded to our credit card at a different exchange rate)
Anyway....it all worked out well in the end. It amazes me that with how technically advanced Disney is that they can't find a way to simplify their res. system so that your room rate reduces according to your travel dates (as in our case) so we wouldn't have to make 2 separate ressies. :badpc:

Suzy....are you also waiting for a discounted rate at a higher rated Disney hotel? If so I can PM you if I find one??

Let me know,

Wow, I guess we just got lucky. The first time I called I told the cm I wanted two ressies, one for Dec 31, and the second for the remainder of the nights. The cm totally understood what I wanted and it was booked no problem. We are booked room only.

YES, please pm me if you happen to find a discount for these dates at a value, mod or deluxe. I know the kids would really enjoy the water slides at a moderate or a deluxe, even for just part of our stay.

We had a double (continuing) ressie for our last vacation and it was no problem. We were able to check-out, and re check-in in about 5 minutes max. and were able to keep the same room.

Have a great evening.
