Just back - was SICK the last day. Anyone else get sick at Disney Recently?

So at age 13, the only time I ever was at a Disney resort, we were in Disneyland CA for 1 day... I managed to get a sinus infection BAD and add to that (sorry if tmi) my first ever AF! UGH, what a way to experience the "magic"! Hopefully this time the magic will help dh and I get some babydust and not sick!

Sorry you got ill, I cant imagine a plane ride sick, let alone with sick kids!!!

We leave tomorrow afternoon. Started to feel bad last night with fever, congestion, cough, sore throat, etc. Went to doctor and was diagnosed with strep throat, bronchitis, and sinusitis. Not looking forward to this trip:headache:

we didn't have vomiting issues, but we all had some kind of viral infection at some point during the trip (last week). It started with both sons, who were running high temps by the 3rd night of our trip. One was diagnosed with an ear infection, and they both had horrible coughs along with the fevers. They got over the fevers within 24 hours, but the coughs stayed all week long. I had fever one evening, but went straight to bed with Tylenol PM at 7:40pm, and slept until almost 7am - and I was fine after that. It hit DH the same day, and it's had him down for the count since THURS---chills, fever, coughing, aches...general misery. I think maybe he didn't stop and take care of himself when he started feeling bad, and it got worse because of that. SO - if you start feeling bad - take some meds, get into bed, and rest, so you'll heal quickly! Make sure you stay hydrated, too.

One thing I noticed when I got home... we always bring our air purifier, which we use at home in our kids' room...well, I changed the filters on it 2 days before our trip. I opened the filter cover today, and the thing is FILTHY. I couldn't believe how much dust/dirt accumulated in that thing within a one week period in the hotel room. Those filters usually last me a good 3 months at home. ick.

I hope you make a quick recovery. Unfortunately my family is in the same boat. In fact, up until about 11am this morning, I was thinking we may not be leaving as expected for our WDW trip tomorrow morning.

Last week my daughter came down with a virus, but was fine in 24 hours. Has a bad cough, but otherwise feels fine. But then, on Friday, my 4yo son got the same thing. We figured it's best they get it over with.

Well, Sunday morning he wakes up crying with ear pain. Classic signs of ear infection. So I bring him to the local CVS pharmacy's "Minute Clinic" since my pediatrician was closed. Diagnosed with an ear infection and given amoxycilin. I take him home and he's really lethargic and just lays on the couch sleeping (a half-sleep, actually) all day. At one point he rolls over to lay his head down on the opposite side and I see blood coming from his ear, which freaked me out. First thing this morning, in the blizzard that has hit the Philly area, we bring him and my daughter (who is fine but has a bad cough still) to the pediatrician. In the lobby we mention to the pediatrician that we were hoping to be leaving for disney the next day. She looks at us and says, "Not so sure."

Turned out we got the okay to go. His ear drum had ruptured from the infection. Had it not ruptured he wouldn't have been able to fly. But with it rupturing, there will be no pressure issues while flying. But the downside is he can't swim. We had booked at CBR just for the cool pools...now all I'll get is long walks to OPR and the buses : (

And to boot, the pediatrician checked my daughter and she has a mild ear infection now too. Hopefully she doesn't get worse. Add to that my wife is now sick with just not feeling well and a bad cough. I've somehow avoided any obvious symptoms, though my stomach hasn't been totally right the last couple of days, but I think it's just nerves due to this trip : (

I have to wake the poor family up at 6am for our 10am flight. Hopefully everyone is feeling better in the morning but I'm not holding out hope. Regardless, since we'll be there for 8 days, we should be able to salvage at least 4 or 5 of the days since within another day or two the antibiotics will have kicked in full force for my kids. And I'm praying I don't get sick. I'm usually the one to get it while my wife gets lucky, but this time that's reverse (so far). Wish us luck!

Someone in a previous response said something to the effect of, "and YES, some people actually go to Disney when they are sick!" I read that as if they shouldn't go, like they should just throw away hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a trip? That's ridiculous.

I am sorry to hear you were sick... Those airline change fees are crazy and unfair, they should at least let you try standby at no charge..

We just got there last Christmas holidays and the experience is really wonderful. Now we are planning to go back for the next holidays. But I want as early than that. :lmao:

Have a nice day. :)

I'm the one that made that comment and I only meant it in the context of my sentence- to deflect any naysayers who might have come along to say surely not that many people go to the parks when they are sick.
I think this thread proves I was right- they certainly do! LOL
I wasn't saying they shouldn't- I'm not the boss of the world. LOL I was just explaining that it most likely wasn't norwalk or whatever special illnesses- that it was just that everyone- everywhere- seems to be getting sick lately and yes they will go to the parks (partly for the reason you said, and partly because they don't want to disappoint children looking forward to it/etc. so they'll suck it up and go even if they feel miserable) and just being around more people- on matter where it is- means a higher risk of getting some illness since it seems to be running rampant everywhere anyway. That's all I meant. :)

Fortunately the only time we've ever had an "illness" while at WDW was on one trip our son vomited that night at the resort... (in our bathroom thank goodness) and (sorry if tmi!) it was totally all barely chewed (you know how kids can be!) hotdog. He'd been the only one to have a hotdog that evening- and he was fine the next day. He's never eaten a hotdog there again because I won't allow it. What's funny is that the only other time he's thrown up in his life was eating a hot dog out somewhere- he eats them all the time at home! But for some reason his stomach can't take hotdogs eaten at parks or somewhere else. I haven't figured out why..... it's weird. I'm knocking on wood that we don't have to deal with a quickly spreading illness while on vacation- I feel so bad hearing all these stories about how trips were basically ruined by illness. It's so sad!!!! all that money spent, all that time waiting for the trip- and then wham... an illness hits someone or several members of the family. :( :( :(

The people in our office have been sick the past couple weeks or so - one day only two people out of 8 in our department made it in (I was one of the lucky ones). It's also going around NC, because my cousin's family has it. If we could just shake this winter weather, we could get everyone outside in the fresh air and get rid of this yuck!

We had that stomach bug here in PA for the last two weeks. My son started it and then nicely gave it to me. Mine wasn't quite as bad but it just keeps on lingering! No appetite at all. I'm sorry you got so sick on your vacation.
We go in June so maybe the heat will kill off those nasty bugs?

We were there for a couple of days mid-February and I spent the last few with a cold and sore throat. Fortunately, it was worst at late night/early morning and generally got better as the day went on, but a few weeks later, I still haven't shaken the cold.

My parents just returned home Sunday. My Mom was really sick Thursday night with a fever and sore throat. Ended up having a doctor come to the hotel friday morning and she was able to get medicine helping her at least get through the rest of the vacation. Not sure if anyone knew that there is a facility offsite that sends a doctor to the hotel, thought that was a nice option if you don't have a car. it was expensive though and can only give you receipts to send into insurance doesn't actually take the insurance directly.

In the same boat my friend! We leave tomorrow, and yesterday I started with fever and an EXTREMELY painful sore throat - went to the doc and I have strep! :scared1: Received 2 shots (antibiotic and steroids) and also taking both of those by mouth to try and "attack aggressively" as the doctor said. Fortunately, I don't have the other ailments that you have - I hope you feel better by the time you get to WDW.

We were there the first week of February. Our third night, DS2 started throwing up. By the 5th night, all four of us (DS1, DS2, DH and myself) had it and were in the hospital in Orlando. Thankfully, we drove, and ended up checking out of the WDW resort at the end of our 8 day "Vacation" and heading to a cheapo hotel where we stayed several extra days to try to recover before our 21 hour drive home. It was a miserable 1st trip to WDW for my family. I totally feel for you!

Wow, I guess I feel a little better that my family is not the only one singled out by the sickness fairy; BUT I feel so badly for many of your stories of ruined vacations b/c of illness....UGH.
I'm grateful, in a way, that our sickness waited until the end of our vacation - but it sure made for a long trip home by plane on Sat. My littlest guy (9 m) is still sick though - the rest of us are back to normal.
Honestly, I wish the airlines would grant some sort of forgiveness for travel while you are sick. I cannot even imagine the germs we spread between our condo, rental car, and airline seats. I am certain whoever had them after us were sick. This was a very fast moving, contagiious virus.

DH and I just got home on Sunday. I started getting sick Friday night on the way to our dinner at Narcoosies. Had to go back to the room. I was violently ill (vomiting etc all night) Slept all day Saturday. I felt well enough to accompany him to dinner that night and to the fireworks but still felt icky all day Sunday . it was a rough flight home. Today is the first day I truly feel normal again. I think I took it with me actually as we have several friends that had it here while we were gone.

It is running like wild fire thru Virginia, in fact I have 1 at home today with it and have told everyone else to be on the lookout. So, we are all waiting to see if we drop like flies!

we just got back and my 8yr dd woke our lastnight complaining of a tummy ache and she got sick a little and then on the drive home she got sick but then felt fine the rest of the night. it helped that she slept on the way back home. we use sanitizer all day, every day at the parks!

We also were super sick when we were there. My ds6 started with 104 temp, I was hit next with the cold from #%*&(&. Ds cane down with it 2 days later. Both boys colds developed into ear infections and dh was sick 3 days before we left. We still went to the parks but we were drugged up and took long naps in the afternoon. I have not been that sick in a very long time.

The plane ride home was not fun ds6 did not want to move and ds3 was in a lot of pain with his ears. I am sure we did not catch it at disney though as ds6 was sick as soon as we got there.

We probably infected many there and on the plane. Sorry if one of them was any of you:sad2:

My daughter got sick last year our 3rd day there w/ a terrible cold, she rarely gets sick, so go figure she got sick in Disney (maybe b/c she really isn't exposed to much?). But the flight home was terrible with the pain in her ears :( I felt so bad.

Ugh I would hate to fly being sick....and in Disney sick....that really stinks...I hope we have better luck this year and we are all healthy.

We've got the actual fever/congestion/lethargy flu (DB is a brother and saw close to 15 confirmed flu cases in one day last week) and a mild 24-hour stomach bug going around the southern states right now.

Snow Sunday and projected temps in the mid-70's by Friday don't help! This is the worst season of the year for the sickies  in the south! All the up-and-down temps always make everyone sick!
