I hope you make a quick recovery. Unfortunately my family is in the same boat. In fact, up until about 11am this morning, I was thinking we may not be leaving as expected for our WDW trip tomorrow morning.
Last week my daughter came down with a virus, but was fine in 24 hours. Has a bad cough, but otherwise feels fine. But then, on Friday, my 4yo son got the same thing. We figured it's best they get it over with.
Well, Sunday morning he wakes up crying with ear pain. Classic signs of ear infection. So I bring him to the local CVS pharmacy's "Minute Clinic" since my pediatrician was closed. Diagnosed with an ear infection and given amoxycilin. I take him home and he's really lethargic and just lays on the couch sleeping (a half-sleep, actually) all day. At one point he rolls over to lay his head down on the opposite side and I see blood coming from his ear, which freaked me out. First thing this morning, in the blizzard that has hit the Philly area, we bring him and my daughter (who is fine but has a bad cough still) to the pediatrician. In the lobby we mention to the pediatrician that we were hoping to be leaving for disney the next day. She looks at us and says, "Not so sure."
Turned out we got the okay to go. His ear drum had ruptured from the infection. Had it not ruptured he wouldn't have been able to fly. But with it rupturing, there will be no pressure issues while flying. But the downside is he can't swim. We had booked at CBR just for the cool pools...now all I'll get is long walks to OPR and the buses : (
And to boot, the pediatrician checked my daughter and she has a mild ear infection now too. Hopefully she doesn't get worse. Add to that my wife is now sick with just not feeling well and a bad cough. I've somehow avoided any obvious symptoms, though my stomach hasn't been totally right the last couple of days, but I think it's just nerves due to this trip : (
I have to wake the poor family up at 6am for our 10am flight. Hopefully everyone is feeling better in the morning but I'm not holding out hope. Regardless, since we'll be there for 8 days, we should be able to salvage at least 4 or 5 of the days since within another day or two the antibiotics will have kicked in full force for my kids. And I'm praying I don't get sick. I'm usually the one to get it while my wife gets lucky, but this time that's reverse (so far). Wish us luck!
Someone in a previous response said something to the effect of, "and YES, some people actually go to Disney when they are sick!" I read that as if they shouldn't go, like they should just throw away hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a trip? That's ridiculous.
