For reference: I certainly can't call myself an expert or a commando if I compare myself to people around the boards, but I know more about Disney World than the average bear. I would consider myself having been cautiously hopeful about the new FP+ and MagicBand system before this trip. I never disliked the concept, but I feared encountering the glitches I read about on the forums. I'm 29 and was traveling with my cousin, a first-timer who is 20 years old.

MagicBand: I worried about these being uncomfortable as I never wear anything on my wrists, but I entirely forgot about mine. I did find it difficult to touch it properly to censors sometimes, but I think that was just me. My cousin didn't have a hard time with it.

I had no trouble with charging or with FP+. However, on our first day, my ticket didn't show up at MK gate. I felt panicked! But I was sent over to guest services and they fixed it within five minutes, before the opening show started. Then we got back to the room and I couldn't get our room open. I went to the desk and they reset the band, and I had no trouble thereafter. Those initial glitches certainly made me nervous, though! I know it could have been much worse and I was glad they were resolved quickly.

FP+: I booked FP+ for Anna and Elsa 60 days out and was able to reserve two slots-- one on arrival day and one on departure day-- for my party of two. I also lucked out in securing FP+ for Mine Train on our arrival day. The passes were invaluable for these two attractions. We went to MK very close to rope drop today, our departure day, thinking we'd head back to Mine Train and maybe ride a second time on standby. It was a 105 minute when we reached the ride at 9:06 AM. We waved farewell to it. We certainly enjoyed it, but that wait is far beyond our limits!

FP+ worked very well for our morning parks. I had no glitches at all with any of my FP+. We arrived at rope drop, rode standby until 10:30 or so, then used FP+ for remaining headliners. The problem came with hopping to a different park in the evening. We switched to a different park almost every day of our trip, and by the time we reached it at 5 PM or later, all headliner FP+ were long gone. We enjoyed ourselves at night anyway, and lucked out with reasonable waits here and there, but it would be incredibly beneficial for park hoppers to allow guests to book their 4th FP+ at a different park!

That said, we didn't use the fourth FP+ all that often. I planned this trip extensively and fully intended to utilize the rolling FP+, but when you get to the parks, you discover your limits (and those of your travel partner).

Rope Drop: As I said, we arrived at rope drop, rode standby until 10:30 or so, then used FP+ for remaining headliners. We rode everything we wanted utilizing this method. On our first full day, we arrived at Magic Kingdom to watch the opening ceremony, and we went left to Frontierland as the crowd went to Fantasyland. Before 10:30-11:00, we had ridden BTMRR, Splash, Pirates, Jungle Cruise, and Haunted Mansion with no wait and very thin crowds, going at a very leisurely pace between each ride. It was wonderfully empty on that side of the park. :)

We headed over to Buzz around 10:45 and had a 10 minute wait, then about a 30-minute wait at Space (we enjoyed the ride, but I went in hoping for a shorter wait than was posted). We used our first FP+ for Enchanted Tales, then had a FP+ for Be Our Guest (We booked this through the website without an invite and had no trouble at all). I planned for us to remain in the park for the 3:00 parade and our FP+ for Anna and Elsa at 3:50.

It became clear to me during lunch that my cousin was absolutely exhausted though. As much as I wanted to see the parade, she needed a break. I gave up the parade (and never managed to see it), decided we'd use our backup Anna and Elsa pass on departure day if we didn't get back in time (we didn't, and I switched it for Peter Pan later that evening and met the girls today instead), and took her back for a nap. To be honest, I was pretty tired myself from our drive and uncomfortable offsite room the day before.

After the break, we went back for our Peter Pan and Mine Train FP+, and then my cousin wanted to go to Hollywood Studios (I had originally planned MK but went along with her request). And that set the pattern for the rest of our trip: rope drop at one park, leave around 12-1, pool and nap time, then a different park around 5-6 for evening fireworks. It worked perfectly, really. It helped us avoid the worst of the heat and crowds, and she LOVED the pool. I've never really taken advantage of the pool before, but I enjoyed myself and we were rested up for our evenings.

One day, we deviated and slept until 9:30 and arrived at Animal Kingdom at 10:30. We did a few things with FP there before hopping to HS for dinner at Sci-Fi at 5:35. With no break, we were miserable after dinner-- even having slept in. We both slept after dinner and I barely convinced her to leave the room around 8 PM and watch Wishes from the Polynesian beach.

So it may not work for everyone, but Rope Drop was almost miraculous for us. If every day had turned out like our late Animal Kingdom morning, I'm afraid she wouldn't have had a good time. She's sour on AK now and I think it's due to how hot and crowded it was by the time we arrived. We both hate waking up early, but we agreed Rope Drop was worth it.

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions as I prepared for the trip! Particularly mesaboy2, as I used his FP+ strategy thread and it served me very well.

P.S. Starting at 10:15 AM on Friday, I waited on the sidewalk in the sun at DHS for the parade with Mark Hamill in it. It started at 11:30, but it was worth it! Seeing Luke Skywalker ride by was amazing. My heart pounded and I screamed my love for him along with everyone around me (little cousin went back to the room and said she'd meet me for lunch, LOL). I saw the Star Wars fireworks the following night. So glad I was able to fit in both of these experiences! They were wild cards on my schedule, but some of the best memories from the trip.

P.P.S.We had incredible weather. It wasn't even too hot the first few days, though the humidity definitely set in toward the end. But we never had rain. A few sprinkles last night, but I never bought a poncho the entire week. I was amazed!

thank you SO much for taking the time to report your experiences!!!

Soooo happy for you!!! Sounds like a great trip with some extra magic sprinkled in with the Star Wars elements. YEA!!

Thanks for sharing, I was curious around what time we should start using FP+. That helps a lot.

Thank you so much for sharing. I really liked hearing about your experience with rope drop. There been a lot of people wondering if It was still an advantage and I glad to here it is.

Thanks for sharing your experience! We leave in 2 hours and you have helped calm some fears!!:cheer2:

I also appreciate your post. This coincides with my plans of being there at RD and taking a break in the afternoon.

Thanks! We are planning on doing the same thing i.e rope drop, swim/nap, park and its nice to see it worked for you.

Thanks for the info! Heading out in 16 days and have scheduled things the same way. we went 3 years ago in February so we did the marathon days at the parks without the breaks, it was the kids first trip so they wanted to be there all day everyday plus it was only 4 of us. In a couple weeks we will be going with 10 of us and I have done all the planning since I am the defacto "expert" apparently since it worked out so well for my family last time. So happy and glad to hear that it went well for you this way. I was reading a lot of posts that were suggesting that you go later and use FP in the afternoon which was concerning me about my decision. I can't wait until June 25th!!

Sounds like a great time! I am going to try to use the RD strategy with FP starting around 11 with my group...was planning some afternoon breaks as well!

Thanks so much for your report. Sounds like a great time! My plan is similar with rope drop, afternoon break and return to the same park or hop to another depending on the day. I scheduled my FP+ for evenings with a late dinner ADR as my hubby isn't a morning person and plans to sleep in each morning while I do rope drop with the rest of my group. We will see him when we return to the resort at 12/1pm. I'm feeling really good that this will work out now!!! Thanks again!!!

You're welcome! It was a great week!

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, so it was definitely 'magical'!

Jenny MPO3...was DHS crowded for Star Wars/Mark Hamill?

It was pretty busy, but when we arrived at 8 AM, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. This was on Friday, June 6th. We rode RnR standby with no wait, then had FP+ for Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, and the Great Movie Ride. But as we walked into the park, several people spread a blanket on the curb and waited for the 11:30 parade starting at 8 AM! I thought I was nuts for sitting down at 10:15.

We left the park about 1:45, after lunch at 50s Prime Time. It was very crowded by then-- my cousin left the park at 10:15 (and returned for lunch) because she didn't want to deal with the parade, and said the masses were swarming in at that time.

Thanks for sharing, I was curious around what time we should start using FP+. That helps a lot.

It worked well for us to start FP+ at 10:30-11. That was when the crowds began rolling in. One day, we had a 9:45 Akershus breakfast so I used a 9 AM FP+ for Test Track. That worked well too for securing a headliner without being late for Test Track-- it had posted a 20 minute wait when we reached it around 9:10. It really depends on your plans for the day!

Same. I wasn't sure if it would be the best strategy anymore, but there were very few things we missed throughout the week. The first two hours at every park were so pleasant compared to the afternoons.

Thanks for sharing your experience! We leave in 2 hours and you have helped calm some fears!!:cheer2:

Ahhh, I hope you are having a great time!

Great report, thanks:thumbsup2
Mommy 3 ...have a great trip:cool1:

Thank you, and you're welcome!

Good luck to you! I admit I hesitated to take such long afternoon breaks, but the pool time was blissful and I never felt like we wasted time we could have been in the parks. We had plenty of park time every day, too!

I hope it works well for your family, too!

Wow, I don't know if I could handle the marathon days-- though February weather may help in that regard! I admire people with that level of endurance. :) I hope your family appreciates all the planning you put into it and that you all have a wonderful time. June 25th will be here before you know it!

It's ideal with it being as hot as it is now. The sun and humidity are truly draining from about 1-5 PM. Good luck!

I think it's great that you let him meet you at his own pace. I was hesitant about separating from my cousin at first, but she wanted more pool time and I wanted to see Star Wars stuff. I watched the parade and fireworks by myself but found other Star Wars fans to chat with and enjoyed it greatly. She hung out by the pool and talked on the phone with her boyfriend for awhile. We still met up and had plenty of together time and both valued our alone time too. I think your late ADR sounds great! It will probably keep your husband happy and well-rested so the time you have together is enjoyable for all.

Thanks for the upbeat, positive report :thanks:

@JennyMPO3

Was lunch at the Prime Time Café crowded?

Very! Our reservation was at 1:40 but we checked in at 1:10, hoping they could seat us sooner but not counting on it. I think we were seated around 1:30. We stood in the "living room" while we waited and all the seats, including those at the bar, were taken.

Our waiter was nice, but he never teased us. He introduced himself as our uncle and told us to set the table (and I was very amused watching little cousin trying to decide how to properly follow these instructions), but after that, it was business as usual. I think he and the other servers were just so busy that there was no time for antics. A great meal though! Loved the sampler platter-- perfect for two young women with light appetites to share.

Awww...sorry you didn't get the full effect of what this restaurant is supposed to be.

The popular belief is that people didn't "get it". It's known that 50PT had a lot of complaints about rude servers, and servers bothering people. I've seen a few threads on the boards back in the day talking about it, with everyone posting "It's part of the show."

Since people didn't "get it" the servers have been told "tone things down." Which basically means a couple of quick admonishments about putting your walkytalkies away and that is it.

But the show elements of 50PT have been either removed or toned down to almost nothing.
