I just returned from a stay at PVB April 30-May 5 with dd.

Stayed in 2946 in Tokelau Bldg, 2nd floor with a full balcony facing the pool area but the view and the noise were from the pool mechanical room. It didn't bother me too much because I live near a major highway at home and hear that from my patio.

The room was nice, and we both loved the atmosphere at the resort. We only used the pool near the dvc villas, but the Volcano pool has a really nice kids play area with water jets, fountains, climbing areas. The kids in the pool area were having a blast.

With the weather being crazy hot at the time, it was really nice being on the monorail. We did return to the room in the afternoons for a rest and back to the parks at night. It really did make a difference.

Something I must mention, the bed was the softest bed I have ever experienced. Absolutely no support. It may be damage but it shouldn't be that old since the resort is quite new. It may just have been this room. One side of the bed was really soft so I kept to the other side. My dd who is quite petite slept on it one night and I slept on the sofa bed. Even she found it to be too soft. The sofa bed wasn't comfortable either. I felt like I could feel the frame through the mattress so I went back to the queen bed the next night.

One other thing, I noticed that the Moorea building 2nd floor does not have a full balcony only a juliette balcony. I'd have been seriously disappointed to spend so many points and not get a full balcony.

The resort was great, but I don't think I'd stay again and take the risk of getting one of those rooms with the juliette balcony.

I think you mean Hawaii (club building) doesn't have the full balcony on 2nd floor, or possibly Rarotonga? Moorea definitely has full balconies on 2nd and 3rd floors, as do all the Poly DVC rooms. The regular hotel buildings do not. Being assured of a full balcony or patio is one of the good things about reserving Poly DVC.

How close is the mechanical room to Tokelau? I wonder if it's safer to just request a garden view. It would be nice to view the pool, but I think I'd rather see the garden and plants, rather than a big mechanical building close to the room?

I've been in a second floor room in Moorea, and it had a full balcony.

I am here now with the very same view. We did not make a room request, but any future stays we will. I would take the parking lot view over this anytime. In my opinion, the entire poolside of Tokelau have crappy views.

Thanks, I may have to rethink my request. I had requested a pool view. With my luck it would be the south end of Tokelau. I'd rather see the lovely landscaping than the back of a service building, if possible. Interesting you said the parking lot view would be better. In one way, parking lot view may be ok if you can really see the monorail, but probably you'd want to be on the third floor then I would imagine?

The mechanical room was directly across the walkway, very close, the noise was a constant hum, couldn't hear it with the door closed, but sitting on the balcony it was quite loud. If that kind of noise bothers you, then maybe request the other side of the building or another building. The other end of the building would have a nice pool view, our room was in the half of the building closest to where the monorail is.

I guess I was mistaken about the building with the Juliette balconies, not Moorea after all.

There is no garden view category at the Polynesian other than in the non-DVC club level where the south side is considered garden view. All DVC rooms have standard or lake view.

I have photos of many of the views on my Tokelau Page and you will see that about half the rooms on the west side of Tokelau so not look at the pool directly and are some of the best views at the resort since you can see the castle and fireworks off to the right. The rooms at the end even look at the beach and lagoon. I've stayed in that longhouse before.

Sorry, I meant standard view. I had read a few posts here on the DVC board mentioning the mechanical building, etc., so was curious. I would LOVE to get a room on the Northwest side of Tokelau, as far north as possible. But I tried to make more generic requests to not complicate it by requesting specific room numbers. I know DVC recommends keeping them to no more than three, so I asked for 1. Third Floor, 2.Tokelau and 3. Pool View. I know all requests are just that, requests. I would just like to be able to use and enjoy the balcony even if it's just plants and gardens I look out on.

The last time I stayed at the Polynesian was in 1991 for my honeymoon, in a theme park view room in Tuvalu (it was called something else then). We had King Kamehameha service then back when you could add it to any room in the resort and the lounge was in the GCH. It was fantastic, but have not gone back since, partially because we became DVC members in 1992 and couldn't justify the cost with points, etc. This year is our 25th anniversary (but we're not going for anniversary. Just trying to make our stay at the the Polynesian as special as we can.

Thanks for the link to the pics. I will check them out. I have loved your website for quite awhile. It is so detailed and has so much incredible info on it.

I think I would have just requested upper floor north-west end of Tokelau but you should be fine. Only about half of Tokelau faces the pool directly.

Yes back before the club level lounge was built onto the end of Hawaii all lagoon view rooms had an option of adding on club level (or concierge is what it was called then). This gave you access to the King Kamehameha concierge lounge that is now where part of Boutiki is.

I thought that the Hawaii building was the only "club level" building at the Poly? We are due to stay there in December and just assumed we'll be staying in the Hawaii building. Also, made the reservation a little while ago, and still nothing from IPO. I know I can contact them, but it's very different from our last CL experiences at AKL where they contacted us immediately. Anyone know what that is about?

Only the Poly Hotel rooms have a club / concierge option. There are no club level DVC Villas at PBV (AKV - Jambo is the only DVC that has a club / concierge option). If you reserved a club/concierge room, you may want to post your question on the Resorts Board.

Oops very sorry. I didn't understand this is a thread for DVC members. Sometimes I get misled by what my search brings up. So sorry!

Now I'm REALLY excited for our upcoming Poly stay!! :cool1: I find most hotel (incl. DVC) beds to be hard as granite and they KILL my back. I can never sleep and when I get up in the morning my back hurts so bad I can hardly walk and I practically have to OD on Aleve. We have a Select Comfort bed at home and I sleep on a #25 (which makes it so soft it's almost like a PIT)!! :rotfl: Hard beds are the worst part about traveling to me. Oh, and the crappy pillows. I NEED MY PILLOW (also Select Comfort) to get a good sleep. When we fly I don't bring it as it's too much to bring but when we DRIVE I always bring it (which we are this trip)!!:cheer2: Can't wait!! :bounce::jumping2::jumping3:
