And it was interesting to say the least! This is the first time we've gone to Disney during a "busy" time, and we quickly learned that it worked best to follow one of our touring plans that started at park opening.
But here's a quick trip report:

We arrived at OKW on Monday the 7th around 3pm. Our room had already been assigned and was ready for us. Unfortunately it was on the 3rd floor, which was the only thing DH did NOT want to hear! Lucky for us we had rented a car (which ended up being a minivan thanks to Alamo running out of full-sizes) so we didn't need to lug a stroller up and down the stairs, but it was difficult enough doing that hike with the baby and diaper bag. We've had two OKW stays, and both have been on the 3rd floor. DH's enthusiasm for OKW is disappearing..

Our studio was spotless, except the tp holder. I can't stand the thought of all that dirt near something that is used so, ummm...intimately. But after 4 DVC stays, it appears that is something that just isn't cleaned. Ever. But like I said, the rest of the room was spotless. We had no high chair and no mugs, so DH called housekeeping. They told him that they no longer have mugs. He argued with the lady for a bit, but she wouldn't budge. So he told her he had a foam allergy :rolleyes1 and did she really want to be responsible for his reaction? And we got the mugs and high chair about 15 minutes later...

The baby hated our room. I'm not quite sure why, but she was not happy there. I think part of it was no good way for her to settle down since it's so open. Our room was up against a family that I hope survived their trip--someone was screaming that someone else was ruining her life and she hated him :scared1:

Our second day we tried a bus for the first time. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes thanks to seeing the Magic Kingdom bus go by as we were crossing the street. While it was convenient to be dropped off in front of the park, we had 2 of 3 kids (my oldest missed this trip) fall asleep on the way back, which made for a difficult 3rd floor climb..

Day 4 houskeeping knocked on our door at 9 am and asked when we'd be out. We made it out about half an hour later and over to SSR. We had a one night points stay followed by a 3-night cash ressie, and dining plan for both. I asked the cast member checking me in if we could stay in the same room, and she got quite irritated with me and told me I should've booked through member services and then I would've gotten a discount, too. I told her thanks, but it was too late now, and I had saved more with an AP discount, too, so could she just please look into it? It certainly appeared to have put her out, but she did consult with what I assume was a manager or something? and came back pleasant because it was so easy to arrange :cheer2: Our room was ready-we stayed in the Paddocks across from Congress Park right at the end of the hall.

Again, room was clean except the TP holder. We had no high chair or mugs, so DH called housekeeping. They gave him no problem, but they showed up with foam cups. I asked the man for "real" mugs, and he told me they can't give them out. I told him I had been contacted by member services and assured they would be given to me upon request. I don't remember what I said after that, but I do know that "I will wash them myself" did the trick and he came back with mugs 5 minutes later.

The baby loved this studio--I think because it felt more like "home" to her with the wood furniture and more muted tones. DH, though, was getting a bit sick of a studio and wanted his 2-bedroom back....so we thought we'd check into an add-on (not enough points being the reason for a studio stay after all...) and tour the Animal Kingdom rooms.. apparently you're not supposed to stop by the DVC preview center? :confused3 DH stepped in and was treated so rudely by the salesperson by the door that he decided he was not interested after all in looking in to an add-on..at least not while on our trip! So we moved on to touring the Animal Kingdom rooms, which we both agreed we did not like.

The next morning we needed to check in again for our cash stay. The cast member wanted to reuse our key cards, and I protested because I had dining credits still on there. She assured me it would carry over to the new card and I should still have all credits. BUT....it didn't. So we ended up with 2 key cards for that day. I placed the privacy sign on the door because we were told we would not get a cleaning that day since we were staying in the same room and we didn't want anyone going in. We get back to our room and there's a message saying they didn't clean due to the privacy sign. The next morning about 8 am I pulled the privacy sign and we headed to the parks. Around 3:30 we realized we never got a cleaning, (and I desperately needed new towels because DD had spilled a pop AND a lemonade!) so DH called housekeeping and spoke to some guy who apologized and promised that someone would come clean our room before we got back that evening. When we arrived around 10 pm, there had been no cleaning. So DH called and talked to a woman that kept wondering out loud why they didn't clean our room? and finally convinced her to drop us off some new towels, which she did about 20 minutes later. The next day we came back from the parks around 1 pm to find someone's personal bag sitting on a chair and the studio bathroom and kitchen cleaned, but the main room untouched, including the trash. We left about 5 minutes later, and when we came back that evening, the bag was gone but nobody ever finished cleaning the studio. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with the housekeeping cash guests get :sad2:

But we love SSR. A castmember played tic tac toe with the kids while I checked in the first morning. They loved community hall, and I liked that it was next to the laundry room:laundy: . The baby loved the fountains and walkways, and we fit in a nice walking trip to downtown disney. The paths weren't well marked, though, and we ended up doing a bit more walking than needed to get there.

We did attend the Welcome home Wednesday, which the kids loved because mom won't buy them cracker jacks  We all walked away with member hats, but one strap has already broken. Thank goodness I can sew :sad2: DH is now itching to stay at Boardwalk (okay, me too!) and I can't wait until I have all school/break schedules to figure out our trip after next...

On our way back to the airport we passed the hotel we stayed at offsite on our first Disney family trip a few years back and felt so blessed to now stay where we do, housekeeping problems and all :cloud9:

Thanks for the great trip report. Sometimes it boggles the mind how things can get so screwed up, like with your cleaning. That would have annoyed me too. You were very brave to move with two little ones. I found it to be such a hassle. I really wouldn't consider doing again unless I am out of points. It's hard to stay in a studio if you are used to a 1 BR. I don't know how you did it being used to a 2BR.

I'm glad you still had a great trip even with the little glitches. A trip to Disney is hard not to enjoy.

Thanks for your trip report. We've stayed at OKW and at SSR in studios and 1-BRs so it was nice to read your report. I would've been cranky about a 3rd floor location at OKW if I had a ton of stuff to carry up (or sleeping babies).

Our room was up against a family that I hope survived their trip--someone was screaming that someone else was ruining her life and she hated him :scared1:

I'm betting on a teenage daughter yelling at her father. I hope they worked it out.

Our room was ready-we stayed in the Paddocks across from Congress Park right at the end of the hall.

We like this location!

That's true - they don't like members to just stop by to take care of business or adding on at the Preview Center. We were looking to add on in Dec. 2006 and were going to be down there. We asked about setting up an appt to go in to sign the paperwork, but our Guide told us they prefer to send it through Fed Ex, etc., and save their "face time" (he didn't use that term, but that's what I think he meant) for prospective new members. Though it seems to me that they might do well to have a drop-in desk for members who are down in Orlando... although I do understand that they want us to work only with our guide and if they had a drop-in desk, that might make things more complicated.

So we moved on to touring the Animal Kingdom rooms, which we both agreed we did not like.

Oh good - that means one less DVC family to compete with for getting to stay there :) We had the complete opposite reaction and loved the room(s) and are hoping a waitlist comes through for June!

Sorry you guys had such a mix-up about cleaning. Sounds like you missed your window - they were probably going to clean since you were viewed as a check-out from the points-stay and they wanted to prep for the cash-stay. But that's weird about how the cleaning went the next time. A bit creepy.

We also get turned around a bit walking back from Downtown Disney once we get to the Congress Park area.

and mmmmm.... cracker jacks!

You know, there was a flyer in our check-in paperwork at SSR (for the points night) that said to stop by to learn about the latest promotion with the $500 gift card that we could use on this vacation!... I thought it said the preview center but maybe it didn't....I just went looking for it but I think I threw it away. Nonetheless, I don't think she did anyone any favors by being so cold to DH... how did she know if he already was an owner or not when he walked in the door?

As for moving, my waitlist for OKW never came through for the 4th points night, so we decided to just move once. It really wasn't too bad since the kids are little enough that we were back early enough to get things packed the night before....but it's certainly something I would never do on purpose!

Great report.

Im scared of the no elevator situation at OKW too! I am a packaholic!:scared1:

I really want to try the larger units too!

I cant believe that neither OKW or SSR were informed about the Mug Request program:confused3 You could really help us all out by reporting this to DVC. They need to stick to their word, that is really ridiculous.

Im glad you had a great trip despite all the missteps and thanks for reporting. It's nice to hear the baby found a home at SSR!:goodvibes

I just sent off an email to member satisfaction about the mugs. I forgot about this until now, but I noticed the inventory sheets (marked updated last month) do not list mugs or glasses as items that can be requested.

Could I ask which building you were in at OKW? I have found that certain housekeepers have their own little "quirks" about interpreting what kind of service is supposed to be given. We have never had a housekeeper at OKW knock on the door to ask us if we were ready to leave, and I would give one a piece of my mind if they ever did. Especially that long before check out. Heck, you might have still been in the shower! We have learned that the housekeepers at OKW are assigned sections of units. For example, one person will do all the units in one building and sometimes two buildings, depending on the number of units. When I complained once about not getting our toiletries on trash and towel day, the front desk cast member asked me which building. She then noted it and said they would check with the housekeeper to make sure she understood that toiletries were given out on T&T day. Well, I asked Lisa S if she got any on HER T&T day when she stayed in that same building a few months later, and she did NOT! I guess they don't get even a slap on the wrist for not following the guidelines.

We were in building 18 if I remember correctly. I did think it was odd that she did that, but then we received a hang-up phone call the morning of check-out around the same time at SSR, so I wonder if they were checking to see if we were still there..

Our first DVC stay was at OKW (about 3 years ago). We were in a building way in the back on the third floor. We had no idea they didn't have elevators. Long story short: I'd recently had knee surgery and was still healing AND our daughter was 2. So we still had all the extra luggage. It was insane! They didn't have any other rooms available, so I just had to take my time climbing the stairs and poor DH was stuck with all the luggage, child, packages, etc.

We shrugged all that off though, live and learn. However, we did have a bad run in with housekeeping. We had an unexpected visit from housekeeping. The housekeeper was insisting we needed our room cleaned. It was very strange. I told her no, we were fine. But she insisted and pushed her way past me!!! DH was just getting out of the shower. I was freaked out, DH was REALLY freaked out. Then she sat on our bed and made a phone call! I think that both DH and I were in complete shock as we just stood there opened mouth. I finally recovered, walked over to the woman and told her it was time to leave. We stopped by the front desk to tell them about the bizarre situation. To which we got an "apology". I don't know if anything was ever done. And we haven't chosen to stay there since.

However, we've heard many people say that OKW is one of their favorite resorts so we've decided to give it a second try after three years! I hope this visit will be much better.
We've never had any kind of experiance with housekeeping like that before or after this trip. Just one of those bizarre things, I guess!:confused3

That would have freaked me out! Holy cow, how do these things happen?

What I don't get is the mug situation. If you specifically call them and request for mugs, why does it feel like such a huge favour and such an inconvenience to housekeeping that the member will have to be creative (i.e., I have an allergy with foam cups) to get them. Don't know how I would respond to mousekeeping if they told me I can't have them... Hmmm...

I just got off the phone with someone from member satisfaction. He said the original policy that said there were no longer mugs had been rescinded, and the revised policy that clearly allowed mugs upon request had been communicated to housekeeping. He said they were unaware that the revised policy had not been properly implemented. He assured me that official policy is that mugs should be delivered on request, and they would be following up to find out why the housekeepers were not aware of the revised policy.

He also told me that complaints/comments/concerns/suggestions are documented and tracked to determine policy changes and courses of action, so please take the time to email or call. So I also shared my pet peeve with the diry tp holder :)

We will be at OKW for the very first time in about 9 hours!! :cool1:

Thanks for the great report. We have been members since 1993 and love OKW. We have never experienced any issues with mousekeeping:banana:  I like being on the upper floors and request them all the time (I love the views). My days of strollers are long gone!!

I have a bad ankle, so I always put in my room request, nothing higher than the 2nd floor and to date, with many stays behind my belt, I've never had a problem. That's my only request, I really don't care what area they put us in. So far I've never had a bad view or too much noise. As of today, 45 days and countingtill our next trip!

Best guess is 3 years for me until I'm stroller-free...I can't wait till I'm not looking for a place to park it, an empty tram bench to fit it, etc., etc.... and I must admit, the tropical paradise of a balcony we had being up in the leaves was awesome!

Partly why I'm hesitant to make a request...I'd hate to have someone else that needs the lower floor not get it because I'm simply annoyed..

Coffee in a foam cup on vacation is un-American. I think it is in the Consitution that I have a right to bear mugs on my porch at OKW before anyone gets up!!
