The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

I'm seriously disappointed they didn't add better lighting like then did on the hotel side.

And I'm also super disappointed about the jetted tub staying (I won't be using that!)

It sounds like there is a lack of USB ports in the room as well, is that correct?

All of us expected a standard refurbishment to this property and we've all been very patient with the delays. I wonder whether the exterior refurbishment of the villas cost a lot of the capital. Either way, the lack of communication and ultimate disappointment in this project is a bitter pill to swallow for the most expensive property in the portfolio.

I am at this stage where I expect the Disney Co to screw their customers any which way. Those bathrooms and kitchen needed work. Heck, they didn't necessarily need to replace the cabinetry, just refresh it. I'd at least like a justification from DVC to help me understand why this is the worst project they've ever done.
They should've let members vote if they somehow didnt have enough money, interior or exterior. I would've voted interior.
If it is down to labor and materials cost, I am scared for Aulani’s next refurb.
Dues should be taking into account where the property is located. CA being more expensive than FL has always been true, it's not new.

Since this property is so much smaller I assume it has much less owners, so maybe they did it because there isnt enough of us to cause an uproar?

Or they are waiting until the hotel side does something because the cost of labor and materials will be a lot lower….

Most other DVCs get some revenue from booking rooms for cash on the hotel side, Grand Cal may be the only one that does not even list the DVC rooms because of how few there are.

I thought the hotel side already got a refurb? Or was that just soft goods?

If this is the case they should relay that info along.

So....the hotel side got a refurb in 2019ish, right? And now another one, including new shower fixtures?

Am I getting that right?

Ugh - that just makes me mad that the refurb was so delayed and so non-existent. I will be at VDH Sunday-Tuesday, so I will stop in and ask questions about the refurb too. And will also get an email off to DVC expressing my unhappiness as an owner.

I have no knowledge of when the hotel side has done anything. I am just very unhappy that I have a college apartment level shower head when the hotel side has a handheld and a waterfall….

I just saw this on a YouTube hotel room review… Son of a B….

I like our tile work a 1000% time better… but the hotel side has a handheld and a rainfall…. WTAF!
Exactly WTAF! I will be perfectly honest. I became a VGC groupie from my stays on the cash side. So maybe I was a GCH Groupie :( I have not sent my email yet, I will be including that in my email, buying into DVC rooms should get nicer not worse.

Right, my point is that while Aulani has higher dues, Hawaii has much higher labor and materials cost than CA or FL. Or are you saying VGC dues should be higher than they are, given the higher costs in CA?

I'm super curious to see their budget breakdown for 2025.

speaking of water issues. Last night I went to the Star Wars night. When I got back to my room at about 1:30 am there was a bag hanging on my door with two gigantic bottles of water and a note saying that the water to my area would be off from 2am - 4am for construction purposes… luckily I still had a little time to take a shower.

Hopefully that’s a sign that they are working on the hot water situation.

That’s really cool they they brought me plenty of drinking water even though it was at sleeping hours. 😀

No they shouldn't, but they should be charging dues based off what the accounting needs, since there are less rooms to up keep than any other DVC property I think the dues are balanced vs FL.

Agreed. We will see what their accounting shows.

They have a lot of explaining to do. I would make a point to be at the annual membership meeting if I owned at VGC.

Yeah, our first stay was in February 2023, on the hotel side. And it's what made me want to buy VGC. We have our first villa stay last summer and while I did like the room just fine, I did find that it was missing some elements from the hotel side that I liked - such as a Chip and Dale wall accents and the better lighting.

Do the VGC rooms even have a lighted makeup mirror like the hotel rooms??
